I own Yamaha FZ-S and during my purchase in Feb'12, I had opted for Extended Warranty by paying Rs. 777 at time of booking. It is a common trend by Yamaha showroom (Factory Shop / Dealers) to push the customer for buying the Extended Warranty by bluffing about it. This makes it really tempting (all parts will be replaced for free) for the customer to take it, as the salesperson shows the list of parts that will be covered under Extended Warranty. After completion of free services and paid services, the Extended Warranty period starts.
Recently I had to change the clutch plates, friction plates. I told the SVC that, I have Extended Warranty, to which their reply was, "this parts don't come under warranty". I got the parts changed and paid the full amount without any arguement. The same day I mailed India Yamaha Motor (IYM) seeking clarification for same. Got a call from IYM within 2 days asking about my issue and I explain them patiently about the parts charge and labour charge for the same, the lame excuse that they gave me was,'Sir, you haven't serviced your bike on time and missed out 1st & 2nd free services respectively". I told them, everything was done on time and I have the records for same, I scan the bills and send them. Again after 2 days I get a call from IYM and this time they say, "Sir, all your records are proper, so the parts will be covered under warranty and will be free of cost, I will escalate the matter". In the mean time, I got a call from SVC asking about my complaint to IYM and I repeat the whole story to SVC guy. SVC guy was himself not aware about what parts are covered in Extended Warranty. Few days pass and got call from IYM again and the guy says, "Clutch plates come under wear and tear parts, so they will not be replaced for free", when I tell him that it is mentioned in the warranty booklet, his reply was "It is a mistake by IYM, the same has been told to HO and it will take some months to rectify it". Also, if any part goes kaput, Engineer from IYM will check the part and if they think it is a manufacturing fault, then only they will replace it for free irrespective of Extended Warranty.
I cross checked with my friend who took the same for his R15, the booklet is absolutely same.
The SVC guys are very reluctant to clarify about Extended Warranty and hardly throw any light on the same.
Is their some serious loophole in IYM or they are taking the customer for a ride? I seriously doubt if the parts mentioned under Extended Warranty will be replaced for free or not.
Apart from Yamaha, does any other company give such Extended Warranty? If so, how has the experience been?
