The old R1 looked like an angry great white shark.

Re: Old R1 v/s New R1 - a discussion

Well i am the friend whom GautamNarvane metioned.
Well what we discussed was that yamaha made the new r1 to showcase its engineering prowess . To show the world what the they could do it. Build a hardcore thing, give it 200+ plus bhp add a whole of safety features & then boom at EICMA.

Think , when a person looks at a motorcycle ( superbike ) his head should go Woooaahh !!!!! Man !!!.
This though the the onlooker will only go Woaaah after the owner will tell about 200+ bhp,3 level traction control, the price tag etc etc. They havnt designed it. The bug eyed 1 waa excellent so they made a new 1 which was even better in every department. But did they forget the styling part ?? They just Took a motogp bike discarded some stuff , gave a hell lot of saftey features. Remember the r1 with the 4 headlight one , it was made to continue their r1 tradition, a thing that people would love to see. This though it made so that can scream at the top of your voice at 300 kph & still be safe.

No offence to any member who likes the new model . I am just expressing my view point. I will very much accept the view point of other members with utmost respect.

The new model still looks good for me. I guess I will be proud of what's underneath and not how it looks. That's why they are superbikes aren't they? Maybe Yamaha have thought over giving a new look to the R1. Not bad for a change. Lets see what the performance specs are.

Re: Old R1 v/s New R1 - a discussion

I had always liked the design of the YZF-R1.

And when Yamaha came up with the 2015 model I was blown away.

The older design was virtually the same right from early 2000. Nearly 12-14 years.

The older bikes were far less refined (now that we have newer bikes to compare them to).

Each new version of the R1 got more refined (but felt less wild).

I haven't ridden the 2015 yet but am really looking forward to riding it soon.

Motorcycles do need to look good. That may not be their primary purpose, but looks are a very important 'feature' of any iconic/to-be-iconic bike.

I think the 2015 YZF-R1 is the best looking R1 till date.

Sure, I like the older design too (except the crossplane version) but the new design makes the older R1s look like something someone's grandpa would ride.

haha. well, maybe not really, but it sure does make the older design look dated.

I dont understand why a good performing bike has to look ugly according to some of guys here.. Yes the new R1 seems very potent and has underpinnings to become superbike of the year but why not hire a cosmetic department and make it look good too? the headlights looks ugly and visually the old R1 was more appealing

I totally agree with you. There is a major problem with the headlights section of the new R1. I sense a lack of creativity in terms of design of the new R1. Yamaha has just taken their moto gp m1 bike and stuffed all the electricals in it. Their is no art in that superbike ,no character, it just feels like a machine made only to break lap records. The rear section of the bike looks good but the front section is too ugly to look at.

Says the one who has no idea of how the motorcycle would be when seen in flesh. Making an opinion is one thing, but making a judgmental statement like this is well.. you know what!... Oh, so you think Yamaha "stuffed" the electronics in an M1 inspired design and that it is a child's play? Have you even tried giving thought to the way the headlights have been designed and implemented? With this design, it's probably easier than ever to remove the lights and make the bike track ready with little effort. And they look wonderful when they are lit.

The superbike's character lies in that itself.

Sir with due respect i would like to say that i am just commenting on its looks. Building a bike is not an easy task but every individual has got freedom in casting his opinion and to me the bike is not appealing. I am not forcing anyone to dislike/like this bike. Regarding the headlights I don't think track day culture is prominent in a country like India. Everyone doesn't get a chance to go to a track plus we are no moto gp riders and whenever we get a chance to do a track day our main aim should be to enjoy the bike and not to shed weight by removing headlights to make lap records.

Plus one more thing ask any SBK owners how many track days have they done and you would find very few of them who take their bikes to a racetrack. Majority of the people ride their bikes on the street because we don't have a large no of racetracks and thats why in a country like india road presence is quite important too. The fact is Yamaha has designed a superb bike( technologically ) no doubts on this but they have missed it in terms of the design.

One more thing I have posted this thread just for knowing how many people like this bike and how many don't ( and the reasons behind it ). Each and every biker has got the freedom to comment without criticizing others based on their comments. So sir tone down a bit and lets comment freely without pin pointing others.
