    Hey Motormania,

Sorry to hear about your accident man. I can totally understand your emotions, was in Manipal for 2 years till last April. Great to hear that you were riding with so much gear. Despite the Manipal Mangalore road being a good ride, the buses are quite a pain. Being safe is the best you can do.

Its really sad that Manipal being a student town you never get to see anyone wearing helmets. For all the education those guys get there, basic common sense is something that is missing. I for one, would never ride anywhere without my helmet - be it Virgin beach, Kapu beach, Turtle Bay, TC, college anywhere. In fact my helmet was slightly more than quite famous in TAPMI.

      thanks guys

yes its a shame that students here do not understand the importance of such stuff...instead i was ridiculed by my friends and even the doctors at KMC for wearing "so many things just to ride a bike".....
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

At least my friends used to wear helmets for long rides but everyone in manipal has the impression that nothing can happen to them. In 2 years only 1 of my friends had an accident (a really bad one at that which nearly got him thrown out of the institute), tc dude.

@ doctors from KMC - no disrespect if any of them are here, but they dont know a hand from a foot. 2 of my friends were told that they have life ending diseases before some other senior doctors came and corrected the rookie docs. Its not funny. If you have heard of the term trigger - happy, these guys are cast - happy. You get a cut on your hand they will put it in a cast. We (other students in manipal going there for treatment) were guinea pigs for the KMC students. Next time you need to see a doctor, see if it is possible to go to one of the hospitals in Udupi.

            You in MIT ?

              Sorry to hear that .

I have to agree - Karnataka seems to have some of the most notorious old farts driving ST buses, transport lorries etc.

Hey very sorry about ur accident... Glad to know that you respect the importance of safety gears & not hurt much... Wishing you a speedy recovery...

I'd been in that stretch quite a lot of times and the bus drivers drive like maniac, one of my junior at college passed away due to their negligence and this problem of maniac bus drivers is predominant in all the areas where the private buses operate most... If they decided to overtake, come what may, they just don't stop at anything... U r at mercy of God to save urself :-O, this problem exists even in the stretch between Dharmapuri - Coimbatore... I had so many close shave during my recent trip to Kerala... I had to break hard on so many occasions and barely survived hitting (buses are trying to overtake from opp side) on each of the occasions... Regarding the helmet rule, trust me, other than Metros, nowhere its followed strictly , not in Ktk, not in Kerala, not in TN, not in any state of India. Its such a pity that people don't think it as their own safety, instead they crib about it & even violate it...

Helmet rule is pretty strict in Goa. although by law it cannot be enforced inside muncipal city limits. go figure.

i really wouldn't put it down to geographical locations when measuring idiocity. all it takes is one nitwit to cause a lot of grief, and the world is full of em.

i always wear a helmet and jacket when riding a bike. even if it's just round to the neighbourhood grocery shop.

except the NH there's just no checking for helmets anywhere!!!!

ya most of the checking happens on the NH. but the interceptors or RTO even prey on other roads.

if in Goa my friend, follow the traffic rules. and while most cops are corrupt, that number is a lot less in Goa. in fact there's a RTO officer whom i won't name, who will throw not just the book, but the whole damn book-shelf at you if you try and bribe your way out of trouble. the best way is to politely apologise and promise never to repeat the offence again.

What you faced during the trip would definitely be a nightmare for a tourer/biker.We can't help it and what we can do is just to be extra cautious in whenever we venture out.

Good to know that you have you haven't suffered any major injuries.Wishing you a speedy recovery!!
