  • How many kms for your daily commute?

Guys, was curious about how many kms do you ride in a day.

I stay in Greater Noida ( Uttar Pradesh ) and my office is in Gurgaon ( Hero Honda Chowk ). I travel daily one way 75 kms, to and fro makes it 150 kms every day. That makes it 750 kms in a 5 days and approx. 3300 kms a month excluding weekend.

My steed is a 2013 P220f which has done close to 30k.

I travel through 3 states to get to work. Chetan Bhagat should write a sequel to 2 States ( which was based on love for a human being ) and mine would be love for riding.

So do you guys face any challenges in your commute. Can share a lot of inputs on this daily ride.

Share the number of kilometres you commute in this thread. And experiences of course.

I for one hate riding in the city and therefore rarely if ever ride my bike to work which is just 7 km away. I mostly use the metro, sometimes cycle and sometimes just walk the 7 km
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Re: How many kms for your daily commute?

My office is only 5 kms from home. So mostly I cycle, hardly takes 10 mins. Sometimes, when the mood hits, I use my bike.

The total number of kms is 150 per day. 80% highway 20% city. I start on GND Expressway and then move onto DND which leads me on Ring Road Delhi. I stay on Ring Road till Moti Bagh and them take RTM to the Delhi-Gurgaon-Jaipur highway to Hero Honda Chowk Ggn which is close to Manesar. And that is the same route back.

I don't take my Thunderbird 500 out daily. Perhaps, twice or thrice in a week for shopping, covering hardly 20 km/week, maximum. My bird has covered ~13 k km in 2 years mainly on long rides in 5 states/UT, viz., Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry [Pondy].

I stay in Hosur, Tamilnadu and my office is in Domlur (Bangalore, Karnataka). I travel around 40 kms to reach office so 80 kms per day. Road condition is 70 % highway and 30 % heavy traffic city roads. In my case, i have to travel through two states to work. My bike is Hero Impulse.

I just cover what you accomplish in a day . 30kms apprx a day to and fro. My office is near to Tidel park (Ascendas). My home is ~15kms away. Since i travel to office when Sunshine is at its best beating the s**t out of everybody on road...It takes me mere 20mins to reach and travel back to home at 1030pm. So its 15mins from office to home. Love riding while its dark. Constant at 70kmph, except stopping for signals.

11+11=22 kms in total. I stay in Dum Dum and my office is in Sector V in Salt Lake. I have to go to my office early in the morning so the journey to the office is a pleasure with the cool breeze. Just a concern though. - I dread suv drivers so early. Either they are sleepy or they are careless due to minimal presence of traffic police. Most of them don't follow rules.
70% of the return journey is through mad Kolkata traffic.
                    I have a Nov 2012 SS125. Handles brilliantly. 24.1k kms till date.

25 + 25 = 50 kms to work. I stay in Mumbai - Mohammed Ali road and travel to Chandiwali. I do night shift hence leave in afternoon and come early mornings. The afternoon ride in pain because of traffic as I travel city to suburbs but get a 70% highway. A journey or 30 to 40 mins takes and 1 1/2 hours. I enjoyed riding since I remember. First bicycles and then bikes. Thumping to work makes me motivated at work and life.

The morning ride is wonderful without any traffic. However the return from Gurgaon till Delhi is a pain in the @#$. Once I hit the DND, Greater Noida stretch it smooth again.

The bike runs fine since I use Motul7100 however the O-Ring chain goes dry in a day or two. Have to lube it every third day.

Round trip of 54.x km daily.
Takes 1 hour in the morning and a little under 90 min on the way back.

Sent from my phone. Kindly avoid it while riding.

Was considering selling off my P220 and going another bike.

The story goes like this....I had bought a RE TB AVL in 2002. Fell in love with the bike for the first 3 years, then started the love-hate relationship since it started having niggling issues. Finally got fed up and sold it off and bought a Suzuki Access Scooter. I had given up on biking and had decided to take a VRS. My wits had gone for a toss taking this decision. Had the Access for 2 years. I would say it is an amazing vehicle , but not for a Biker.
The itch to trip started coming back and I wanted to buy a RE again since they had introduced the UCE models. However RE had become pricey, way over my budget. That is when I bought the P220 since I knew it was a decent tourer.

However the P220 has served me flawlessly on 2 of my Delhi- Kolkata trips and numerous trips in HP and Uttarakhand. It still serves me immaculately in the daily 150 kms ride which I do now. However somehow I feel the bike is becoming archaic. Also wifey has always been a fangirl of RE like all other girls and on a couple of trips with me she did not find the P220 pillion posture comfortable for long distance riding. She is still used to the RE TB backrest.

Now I know I am contradicting myself if I still go weak in my knees seeing a RE. There is something about it which has not left me in peace. Its like that breakup you have with that one girl friend whom you would have liked to marry but she married someone else. Would definately like to buy a RE once again but finances are a problem. With a recent homeloan on my head and a s@#$%% job things are a bit dicey. RE also has increased their prices ( am not sure for what reason ) making it a kind of a premium product.

The kind of biker I am I cruise majority of the times at 80kmph and in ciities at 60kmph. Still have the RE riding habit. The P220 with its straight line stability and good mid and higher range torque ticks most of the things which I was used to in a RE. However with newer products in the market at better price value and dependability have wavered my thinking. The 200 range from Bajaj is good and with the launch of the AS it kind of meets a lot of my requirements of a better technology. What is strange is that the launch of the 200AS is really a hush affair. Even on Xbhp there are no reviews or ownership threads ( barring one ) on the AS. The forum has decided to ignore the launch I guess.

It would solve my daily ride of 80% highways and 20% city, but would take me a lot from the RE. Am not actually a fan of the 200RS. Saw it in person at the svc in Kirti Nagar and found it too done up. As rightly said Bajaj went overboard with the design.

Wifey wants me to get a new car selling on my 5 year old petrol hatch to assist in my commute since she knows the oohs and aahs I make whenever I reach back home and site on my a@#$.

P220 might have to take adieu not because its an old tech. Trust me it has served me the best among all the bikes I have had since I learnt biking. Change is the way of life I guess !!

Mods please do not move this thread to " What Bike " section. Was just penning my thoughts !!

Re: How many kms for your daily commute?

                              Hello Sid,
I also have a Pulsar 220F which I bought 6 months ago(exactly 201 days). I feel many of the same thoughts as you. Even I bought this bike recently and now I feel that I didn't research well enough, anyhow there is a fact that this was within reach in terms of money and also pillion seat is better positioned and has more space than other bikes. Even I can take my mother for very short rides on it.

Anyway my commute to work changed after buying the bike. I used to go in office cab but now only on my bike. It is 16-17kms far, so around 34 kms to and fro.

I can't believe that one person is doing 75kms one way to reach his office on his bike. 150kms in total!! And when you do this in Pulsar 220 it connects me. I get bum aches in long rides and also sometimes back pain stretching to ankles and everything. Nowadays I adjusted my sitting position and it doesn't show up.
The road must be better than here in Kerala or at least you might have a good stretch of highway. My ride is 90% in city and also very congested route. Only thing is that one part of my shift, either starting or ending of my office shifts will in early morning or after late evening, so less traffic those time.

Since I have bought this recently and can't do anything about it because of financial issue, I will be with my 220 for some time. This all rant doesn't mean I don't' like my bike, I love every bit of it.
Anyhow for an upgrade I might as well wait for Pulsar CS400, my wife says 220 is more than enough for me though.
