I am happy to see that you had done a lot of study on engine oil, esp., on the Shell HDEO. The reference you had given was to a discussion on Rotella T which is not being sold in India. . Shell Rimula R series is not an Exact replica for Rotella. The main difference being the Ash content. Earlier the Rimula series was shown to have 1.45% Ash content and now with CI-4 rating is 1.2%...meeting JASO MA rating. Since the R4 is a Mineral oil you may have to change it at 1,500 to 2,000 Kms .
If you want to try FS oil then give Shell Advance ULTRA 10w40 oil a try...it is one of the emerging ,most used oil in the Motorcycle market.
psr What I like is doing research though sometime i fall short in the implementation department. Like in case ... my bike.

I usually top up the engine oil @1000 kms because of the way I ride and the temperatures in Hyderabad. I will use this for 3K (500->750->750->1000) and maybe decide later.

After the first 500 ... i'll also change/clean the oil strainer. I didn't do it this time as I couldn't find the gasket for the clutch casing.

I'll have to seriously try and find a good mechanic to get that Carb looked at as you suggested. The reason for the crazy initial acceleration and high revs is the Air filter.

To be honest it looks terrible at this moment ... will post pictures and you'll see why you shouldn't trust others with motorcycles.

Philips crystal Vision

470
MRF RevZ-Y
3000
Shell Rimula 4

Carbon Wrap 150
Total 20053
Considering that I started with a budget in mind of 30000/- It looks pretty good so far ... 17K left in my kitty

What am I pondering on changing ....

1. Grips
2. Performance air filter or Standard air filter
3. Reusable billet oil filter
4. Seat leather upholstery

Any other suggestions ...

But then the devil asks me ...

Naveen, are you going to stop so soon. Definitely no ....
Naveen, are you going to get a bigger bike and then stop. Definitely no
So what is

Does anyone want to know the crazy concept that triggered this frenzy of changes ... will post soon ;-)

Mr.Naveen don't waste money on so called Performance Air Filter.Save on the expense and stick with stock parts. If you want you can change the Air Filter more number of times , than going for expensive ones with dubious claims....Remember an engine is a Thermal pump and the oil used and Air purity are of prime importance for Reliability and Longevity.

What I was more inclined towards is the stock replacement filter for FZ16 by K&N. They called it a performance filter ... and hence so did I .

Whilst not to deny that I did consider brands called Pipercross and Green something, I have discarded the idea keeping my budget in mind. Also, I'm perfectly happy with the performance of my bike.

As per the manufacturer, it is washable and reusable while offering longer service intervals which was the USP. It is a tad bit expensive @ ~ Rs.3000.

Since this is a stock replacement, there wouldn't be any issues with fit and finish (since it is a reputed brand).
psr Would you suggest that even this is might not be required and get the stock filter. I will try and find the cost of the OEM to help with the decision.

I have also dropped the idea of OEM Billet filter

Did you have install a relay to correct the flashing rate of the LED indicators? I have bought similar indicators but yet to have them installed.

They will work fine as is and hence so is mine

But here's the issue ... these are LED's and hence offer a path of lesser resistance. So what is going to happen is they will blink faster than normal filament lights.

Some times they might even be constantly glowing rather than flicker as the capacitor charge/discharge cycle is faster. Or if the current is too low, the relay itself might cut off.

Its a lot of imbalance and hence it is safer to have a relay. There are two ways of doing it. Easy way out is to purchase a new relay with higher ohm-age. They cost about 50-60 buck in your local store.

I'll try to post picture of where the flasher is. Or if you can search in XBHP and find the manual you will understand.

.There is the DIY option which requires a new 555 time and a 2 ohm which i'm waiting on ;-) Will have to wait for that

However I did find couple of relays on AliExp. One with 2pin and the other with 3. Any idea which one is compatible with FZ?

FZ has the two pin one ...it is the small black block which is on the right side positioned where the bump in the seat would start.

The Flasher mentioned through Ali Express will work with LED Turn indicators.....LEDs draw much less current , has higher efficiency, and higher circuit resistance which is why the normal bulb type flashers don't work with LEDs, since they depend on the Higher current of the bulb to flash properly. You need a 555 based circuit to work with LEDs.

I have it in Alicart :-) Once it is received I will update. I got a similar relay from the local market which said the same ... but it didn't work.

To install you have to mutilate the existing rubber moulding as the connector you see in the last picture. Yo have to cut out the first set of rubber as shown.

There is an issue though. Now since these are LEDS and they draw less power, they will blink faster which is what the earlier posts are about. So I won't go deeper into it.

I have a 2-pin regulator relay on the way :-). FZ16 uses a 2 pin relay ... there is also a 3-pin relay. So you need to decide which is the right one for your bike.

For those few waiting ... here is a video of how it works.

Spark plug information

The spark plugs are the most important and underrated part of the motorcycle, only next to tires :-) Mine, I thought, were the ones that came with the bike. Now that the bike is around 25K, i wanted to change them.

In an earlier post i've mentioned that something a particular mechanic did messed up my sparkplugs. The engine got very rough ... and there were vibrations. Right before that post i was ranting about how smooth the engine had become right !!!!

This is the old spark plug. This is an NGK ... not sure if it was changed sometime or if FZ came with stock NGK.

On psr's advice i tried to find G-power. ROXY agencies, RamKote, is the distributor in Hyderabad. But tragedy stuck on the way.

A big pothole and the front disk caved. I know that pads were never replaced. There is scrubbing sound at low speeds. So I stopped at Kuru motors @Liberty. The place seemed new.

They replaced my brake pads. This is how the disk is ... not sure if it needs to be changed .

One thing I'm not sure of they did right is the snug fit of the pads. The bike is a little harder to push. But for now I'm following normal bed-in procedure.

I drive/rode 12 km to office daily which takes me an average of 30-45 mins depending on the traffic. The operation of the clutch and brake wore out the stock levers provided with the bike. Also they were not really to my liking as the brake lever was a tight and my right arm ached by the time i got to office.

A few posts in the forum were talking about adjustable levers. Maybe this was a solution to my issue along with adding a certain flair to the bike.

I checked the local stores and found a brand called 'MOXI' and they came in different colors and the levers were adjustable in terms of 'play'. They costed from Rs. 600 Rs. 3000 depending on the store. But they look like they cost 600 and were made like that too. So I skipped considering my inability to identify which is genuine and also I didn't like the feel of the levers.

I didn't have any friends returning from abroad and I wasn't travelling anytime soon ... so I started looking online and I found these.

I've decided to go for Black and Gold as that was the direction I was taking my bike for now (Midnight special edition)

*I will post pictures of the current bike and the levers shortly.
So I have been using the levers for almost a month now and hence posting reviews. Updated the link for the product page as well.

I got them ~20days from order ... so not so bad. They actually shipped a wrong adapter and proactively shipped the replacement as well which reached me spaced 2 days apart at no extra cost. So I'm still happy :-)

This is how they look ... they are machined well and have a nice premium feel unlike the other ones I was offered.

They fold upon impact ... and they are adjustable and extendable

Review: Been using them for a month now. They feel very nice on the fingers compared to the stock ones. There is no more hurting fingers....especially on the front brake.

They can be adjusted for play and length. They are wider with rounded edges and hence feel nicer to operate.
They are attention seekers because of the Gold Color. People want to play with them all the time .... I can't even leave it parked outside anymore.

Now I run with a preset of 2 on the clutch which means it is close to the grip than the stock ... so very little effort to depress the clutch necessary to shift
I run with a preset of 4 on the brake and so I can reach it easier and since it doesn't require much play.

Hope you guys enjoyed this !!!!

Today's activities....

Clutch and Accelerator cable replaced.
Front tire changed to OEM MRF Zapper
Chain lubed
Removed the 'Roots Windtone' washed the bike proper and reinstalled the horns (monkeys no listen)

Bike is shining almost like brand new.

Its almost 500 since I had the Shell Rimula 4 ... so bought oil filter on way to office. Will have to change oil anyways as gear shifts are getting tight.
