religiously change fluid once a year even if you are riding less. the fluid is hygroscopic is nature hence absorbs moisture.
also there might be slight air in the system relating to the spongy feeling.

coming to LED healight. with shipping its comes to 40$ if you are ready to spend 40$ then rather spend 60 and get cyclops.
rrnearev bought from ebay for 5K. else someone to hand carry from states. i am a premium buyer at aliexpress but i would suggest you to buy LED bulb locally / ebay.in else cyclops.
On app it is cheaper ... and what I liked is that it has 3 temperature choices for the product. 4300K rather than 6000k of cyclops (I'm assuming)

I can't remember. Paid excise duty only once for my Dual U7's order of Rs. 160 and this is the only order which took more than a month.

As for the braking problem ... I figured out based on your comments. The hose has hairline cracks ... fluids were changed every 2 months and pads every 10K. It is my fault ... I got so hung up on finding Steel braided lines that I ignored changing the hose itself. Thanks

Actually so confused .... I think I'll buy both. I can use one in the FZ and other in the Hornet. Ignore the windscreen for now.

So after lots of contemplation, consideration and suggestions from Divya Sharan, theironhorse99 and Zaid77 ... the following decision has been taken.

      New H4 CREE LED Motorcycle Headlight Bulb 4000LM 40W Hi/Lo 20W Low Beam Conversion Kit 3000K 4300K 6000K DC 12V P43T Headlamp-in Headlights from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

I chose this because it comes with an option to chose between 3000K, 4300K and 6000K color options. Others didn't offer this option. It also has something called an Anti-Dazzling sheet which is basically this half covering over the lower beam LEDS in the picture which help with better spread. Will have to wait and check the Claims.

As with all Aliexpress products ... hopefully I'll get it in 15 days if local PO doesn't mess up.

The whole thing costed me 2380/- after Seller and AliExpress coupons.

Re: Pimp my ride: Budget Byson

Finally figured out the reason behind the brake issue.

The braking was crappy and thinking it was the brake line, decided on changing it. It has served me for all this while and had cracks. I tried sourcing HEL steel braided lines from Horizon Moto in Hyderabad. They didn't have it ready in stock and it costs a lottttt. So I managed to source a P220 brake line which was apparently a direct fit and was steel braided as well.

When I realized the shop I figured out the reason for my braking woes. The right fork was leaking and the oil was dripping on to the pads etc .... Dumb of me not to notice.

The fork oil seal is bust and needs to be replaced. So the bike has gone for the whole system being disassembled and both the seals replaced. Mechanic insisted that changing the defective side is enough. But I was not convinced and asked him to replace both.

The pain is doing the bike off with a stranger as I need to get to office.

In full gear in public transport, I note know how the Stig felt in those challenges. At least I was not wearing my helmet :-p. But yes.... One of those times I felt the pain of wearing gear ....

How to clear oil from disk pads ....

So the fork oil all over the disk assembly ... it didn't help what ever I did. So I turned to a lot of online forums and compiled and collated information .... and acted.

My rear Shimano XT brakes only have about 150km's ridden on them but have a squeal and braking doesn't have the bite it should so I decided to give the brake...

I only had rubbing alcohol .... so i tried with rubbing alcohol and 3M Grit 120 sand paper for the disk and 3M Grit 600 Sandpaper for the pads.

It feels a bit better ... but it's still not the same. Now I don't have the other things that those folks had. No oven .... nor blow torch ... or maybe I do. I'm not sure if it's worth the effort of getting a blow torch or should I just get new brake pads.

But if I were to get new ones anyways .... I was wondering if I can steel braided brake lines from the Pulsar 220F or if I can get them HEL brake lines.

Re: Pimp my ride: Budget Byson

After this long journey of staying on the path ... this thread was only about 'pimping' ... but I do desire to stray to the other side of performance mumbo jumbo.

Now in the Power house FZ16 thread ... there are a lot of options. But I'm not comfortable touching the engine.

But I'm looking for options ... I'll need to be more detailed I guess...

For a general layman, what power implies is how soon are you transported from point A to point B assuming both these are at a relatively closer distance. A spurt of acceleration ... that gets your blood pumping.

But is it truly power .... is it !!!!

What if the bike just has huge low end power but loses out of top or if the power is hiding way higher in the rpm range that what you are at. I can be riding a continental GT which when given the full beans goes like a bat out of hell. But is it rideable at 120 kmph all day ... I'm not sure.

Now consider the Duke 200, a 200cc engine producing 25bhp and weighing in at 130 Kgs and the CBR250R, a 250cc engine produccing the same 26.15 bhp while weighing in at 168kgs. On paper, the CBR has more power ... but we all know which is faster. Reason ... well it is lighter and makes power early as compared to the CBR.

So coming again the the earlier definition of power ... the way you get from point A to point B ... it depends on the power of the motor and where it makes it, how well can it put it on road and how much it weighs.

I like my FZ .... I think for the city its super. But it is still not in the same league as the big boys. As much as I'd love to upgrade ... this bike will never go. So any investment on this is an investment towards my happiness.

Option 1: Increase the power made

Engine can be made more powerful by different mods. Big bore kits was ... the thing in those days. As much as I was tempted, I didn't see it worth for the amount of hassle.

Since the main components of the engine itself will not be touched .... I'm left with far and few options.

Since this a carb engine ... the flow of gases and fuel are critical. So it gets me thinking of the below options

            1. Engine porting - I really don't want to go this way right now
            2. Air intakes - The problem is they are so debatable ... the pros and cons will cause a head ache
            3. Exhaust systems - There are two options that I can see.

The Leo Vince GP Corsa full system. This is currently sold by Bachoo Motors and costs 12,000 and weighs 2.8 kgs. The power curve foe Leo Vince

The Other one is my favorite, the Yoshimura Tricone/Trioval Universal series. They apparently cost around Rs. 20000 and weigh 2.3 kgs; but are worth every penny. This is the power curve for the Yoshi

Option 2: Decrease how much it weighs

How can I make this bike any lighter. I mean no offense this is a heavy bike for it's segment. Makes me wonder what can be done in this area. The heavy grab rail on the back should be a good 2 kgs for starters.

            Any suggestions

After a lot of deliberation and discussions with other members ironhorse99, Zaid77 and Divya Sharan on the options available... I've ordered my choice of LED Headlight from Aliexpress taking into consideration the price and promises of the manufacturer. Placed order on 4th April and received the product on 30 April which is around the standard shipping time. Let the pictures speak for their own ...

The packaging was simple ... came in a small box.

Not sure why the ballast says V16 Turbo ... if this is a repackaged V16 Turbo I'd be pretty pissed. @Zaid77 Can you please check if this looks similar.

This little glass enclosure over the LED is what makes it a 4300K bulb apparently. It was very delicate but was well put together. The quality of construction is top notch. You can make out by the heat sink that quality has gone into it ... at least where ever it could.

The spring was a pain to get in because of the heat sink. Took a lot of fiddling around to get it in place.

The two bulbs put side by side. Since there is not much difference in length I wouldn't have to worry about it fitting in the reflector.

Now came the trouble of putting that rubber protector back in. There was no way it would go in with out a fight. I had to make incisions at 3, 6, 9 and 12 hour hands positions, split it open like a flower to get it in.

There is a small potion of the heat sink that comes in contact with the rubber and is blocked. But I think it should be ok. If not I'll have to figure something out.

              As for the review....

This was my Philips 'something' Vision 35W bulb. This was taken through my phone ....

This is the LED 20W/40W Bulb ... taken by my SJCAM 5000

What I can say is that maybe there is a difference b/w the filament and LED. But it is definitely not as drastic as advertised. I find the dispersion to be low as it is focused, but still better than projectors. The high beam is awesome but is sure to blind people ... God forbid I got the 6000K model.

Maybe the Cyclops or Morimoto or those similar ones might be the real deal ... but so is the 6K i spend on them and their limited availability.

You're right. But, there is a catch.
                    CRI. Color Rendering Index.

For halogens under 4300K, CRI value is 96-102.
For normal LEDs and HIDs (cheaper ones), this value is in the 60s. So they look bright in the dark but get washed away under street lamps and in rains.

Morimoto HIDs have a CRI of 100 and Cyclops claims 88 to 92.
So, while it will not be as awesome as halogens in rains, it will certainly not wash out.
There is obviously some glare in high beam. Only a projector can solve that. Even the cut off shield won't guarantee zero glare.

Taking a pic of light output can be very tricky stuff.
I can bet that cyclops led is not as bright as the pic is showing it not even close actually.

                      Different cameras handle light differently.

I just attached a pic of my 18 watt aux lamps, now they quite bright in the image which they are but NOT that bright.
Actual brightness is like 50% of what is shown in the pic.

To be able compare u have to get a camera setup which fixes ISO and exposure values only then u can compare correctly.

I am glad to see that your light has really good focus.
I had ordered the very same light (4300k) a couple of days ago.

Cool thing is that u can remove the coloured glass cover and make it 6000k any time you like lol.

So say if I manage to get some kind of semi-conical reflector of sorts it should work like a reflector. Not a perfect cone but a y-dimensional jagged cone or maybe a conical polygon .... But then I would have to redo my entire headlight .... too many thoughts.

Or what if I get a circular head light ... will it screw up the look of the motorcycle.... Opinions please

Yes a circular headlight would give the best results. It may not look pretty to many at first, but looks grow with time.
                          Functionality over form certainly.
                          Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

What about a oval shaped headlight .

Figuratively speaking, not as good as a circular one, but decent. Lot many things go into the spread formation from a headlight apart from its shape. A round headlamp design is the simplest and most efficient.

For sure round will be better but an oval one similar to monster may up the style quotient along with better light throw compared to stock.
