What you see on the top is a Wilson's leather jacket. Something that has kept me company for ages. I had a Scorpion Exo skeleton when I was riding in the US and then I just had this jacket for the past 5 years. It has seen me through the sun come may rain.

But for sometime I have always felt the need for better protection. Though I might be getting some level of Abrasion resistance from the jacket itself, there is not standard armor.

And Hyderabad is full of crazy bastards; one of which almost killed me 2 weeks ago by jumping over the meridian and almost hitting me from the side. I went to the store and tried on quite a few jackets before buying the Spartan Helios. of most importance being that ventilation should be high. I have always ridden wearing a leather jacket and i wanted to not smell like a baboon's armpit by the time I got to office.

But I missed my jacket. I could wear it anywhere and be hip and cool. With this jacket I can't do that. People think I'm some crazy biker/racer dude on whom 'ROAD RASH' was based (you kids go youtube it)

So I bought these SASTEC Level 2 protectors from Solace International - Shoulder + Elbow + Back. They arrived today and I've having a field day with the new SJCAM 5000 WiFi I bought ....

Came in a weird looking box sent via EMS - Speedpost. Good job keeping the Postal service alive ....

Its Bundled up as a set ... good enough packaging. These things are very malleable and ductile ... more on that later. They feel like clay dough we used to play with. But apply pressure quick and you will see why they are so good :-)

Now I have order 3M VHB tapes along with resin from Amazon. So when I get them in I'll try to fix them to the jacket. Or maybe I'll have pockets stitched to put these in ... but then again stitching leather is a pain and I have to go else where to get it done.

What I'm not sure of is ... when I look at these touring jackets vs the race leathers that I have never seen ... do the armors need to slide like they do inside the pockets. Or ... can they be held tight like what they would be when I'm done ... am I doing it right !!! Will I lose my favorite jacket for ever if I do this ....

With all the cray stuff said and done till date ... this is another

Re: Pimp my ride: Budget Byson

A quick update before I gotta rush for 'Rocky Handsome '...

It s close to 2500 kms and hence I decided to change the engine oil. As always, into the cellar and got the drain bolt removed. I got a new one if you guys remember and so that went easy.

But it's the oil itself that gave me the shock of muh life. Like all the other times it was neither dark brown or black or mucky. It was not really Amber but was still clean.

Now the dilema that I was in, not sure if I wanted to out the oil back in as the pan was all dusty. So I went ahead and replaced the Engine oil anyways. Target was to empty out that 5ltr can I got :-P I'm getting a consistant 47-50 kmpl in the city with my driving and Hyderabad Traffic. I'm not sure what the life of Shell Rimula 4 is. Maybe psr can help clarify. This feels like and oil that can do 10K easy under moderate conditions.

The next set of upgrades are what is confusing ...

1. I've taken this ridiculous daunting task of trying to fit ABS on this bike. There was another thread. But I'l trying ot procure an ABS Disk assembly that was similar to mine. I understand that the major issue is going to be electricals. I hate the battery on this and am not sure how to fit that 9 mah battery into this slot.

2. I need better lighting options for my bike Divya Sharan shared something called a Cyclops h$ LED. Seems amazing and costs as much. But its a critical component and reliability is the key. Will search for cheaper alternatives like Leebo or Xtreme

3.Should I go with performance upgrades. Now these are the expensive ones. But there is a justification for what I'm going to do. I can use the FFE for the next bike I get ... If not the whole ... at least as a slipon .... i guess.

.... and many more.... so much confusion

What do you guys think of this one ....

Leebo New H4 LED 40W CREE headlight led light bulb High Power for Yamaha FZ16 1 Pcs: Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike

or this one ...

I'm more inclined to the second one as it has those copper strips. Ordering from AliExpress takes ages and I don't trust Ebay enough. I tried finding the V16 ones that Zaid77 had pointed out ... but can't in the local market.

2nd one would definitely be better. It would run cooler too, courtesy the heat sink/fan.

Well if u can cancel the order without getting charged then i would suggest you do that.

Yeah the second one is better than the 1st one but for the price 1400rs, you can get the one i have. I tried a similar looking led in my fazer v1 and a frnds duke200, it was triangle looking led with 1 led point on each side so total of 3leds. It had great power and brightness but it was more of a spot than flood ( like the lights auto rickshaws have but just bigger and brighter [emoji14])

Where do you live mate ?

In Hyderabad ... I spent an entire day trying to look for the ones that you got :-) V16 Turbo ... but no luck.

Also I realized that I accidentally order the First one ... with copper strips. So ... I'm stuck with that decision for the time being.

I'l run with them for a month and see what I can do ... maybe next time I come to Pune, I'll come down to Mumbai.

Good to know that the Rimula R4 is doing a satisfactory job in your Byson...R4 is a Mineral oil and life is dependant of various factors. Most importantly the load on it ie., the amount of stress it undergoes...A stock 150cc does not impose as much stress as a 200+cc or higher ...A liquid cooled engine also stress the oil less since the temperature is never allowed to go high as with an Air Cooled one..That said the R4 lasted more than 3,500 Kms of city use in my Mitsubishi Lancer....and saved the engine from water attack during the recent flooding in Chennai...the car got submerged in 9 feet of water for 2 days, and after Insurance inspection etc., the oil was drained after 4 weeks...I got 4 liters water and 3 liters R4...after a week, when the oil drain was left open to drain all of water and oil, filled again with R4 and engine was back to firing and working well...
So the question of when to change rests with condition of oil..2 checks help in deciding on this..One is the color which indicates suspended combustion particles and the other is Vibration and gear change difficulty, both of which are due to the oil loosing it's ability..
Good Luck..

Re: Pimp my ride: Budget Byson

psr It has been a great run so far with Rimula 4. Though initially I kept changing the oil at shorter intervals slowly extending them, the behaviour has not changed which is a good sign.

The engine has literally no vibes and surprises a lot of people when I tell them that this is a 2010. Best thing is I can always hit that sweet spot at 8500 rpm from where the bike is a heaven to be on. And with me liking to stay above 5k rpm always ... The bike never heats up as much as it did before. There are many who have ridden this bike and have the shock of their life or comeback grinning like idiots.

It's not with out is quirks though. I've had a few clutch slips and gear drops. What makes it more dangerous is my staying in those high rev ranges. Thank God for my reflexes and skill and those fancy levers which engage the clutch with a touch. It's not so much of a problem for me .... But is one nevertheless.

One more aspect is the tone of the engine and exhaust note. Call me crazy but there is this beautiful valve note on linear acceleration at certain throttle levels ... Sounds like a P50 spooling ... Or during engine braking at lower speeds... There is this wail. It makes my day.

The exhaust note also is more bassy at lower revs while at higher revs ~8000 rpm is just surreal. But it's me thinking about the Zinc having a go at the Catcon. This was a known parameter anyways ... But the result was way sweeter.

My only concern is that I've bought a 5ltr can rather than individual bottles. If I stretch the time interval of oil change then it might be an issue. Maybe I'll start using Rimula4 in the Liva as well.

All in all a great journey ... And somehow makes me question on if we I need an upgrade. With some time, spit and elbow grease once we brought it back to former glory and then some. The number of appreciations or questions I get about this vehicle are numerous. I'll try to make a video showing the bike :-)

As for the next upgrade ... We are getting LED headlights. Though I made a mistake by ordering the wrong kind ... Maybe destiny. Let's see how it goes

Something strange has happened yesterday. As a respite from the horrendous heat wave, we had rain yesterday. My bike was safely parked in the sheltered parking but when I took my bike out after a day's work something strange had happened.

The front brake was feeling a bit weird and spongy. You know ... like if the cable has developed slack ( I know its a disk).

I rode nevertheless putting my confidence in skill and back brake. While I was driving, a cab swerved from the extreme left to my lane which is extreme right.

While I gave him the full treatment of the dual Roots horn ... I applied my front and rear as per my habit. The front had no feel at all ... the bike kept going forward.

I dropped from 5th to 3rd rear quick while applying the rear ... major lock up. I skid for quite some distance ... managed to not hit this guy. But I had the scare of my life. Never did my heart beat so much that I could feel the pulse through out my body.

The brake pads were changed 4K kilometers earlier and was done in a SVC. The brakes were fine until the morning. Now I'm afraid to go over 60 as I do not have feel of the brake itself. The lever has been set to max tension so I have braking ... Not sure of why this would happen.

As for the LED update ... I got cheated by the Leebo vendor in Amazon. He sent me a normal projector setup with out a Ballast while I ordered the LED. Raised an RMA for my money ... but have to figure out if I should order the V16 Turbo for Aliexpress or get Cyclops from US or go for the Local ones. Confusion .... looms over.

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

As I mentioned ... I didn't get the bulb I wanted. Feeling cheated ... i'm falling back to my roots ... Aliexpress (Guys from the lighting thread helped ... will post same there)

Thinking of either of the two options .... More inclined towards second one as it offers 4300K and has some Anti-Dazzling sheet on it.

The first one uses a glass diffuser so should also behave similarly ...

The first one is $24 and second one is $30

Would you know if I can directly plonk these H4 onto the FZ. Its in terms of the AD/DC thing. I'm not sure if the headlight is DC and I need to get a rectifier/cutout.

Confusion .... looms over.

I'm not sure if the headlight is DC and I need to get a rectifier/cutout.
due to being parked in sun for prolonged periods the rubber hose gets softer also the brake fluid looses its properties.
it should get back to normal however if the fluid has not been changed since an year please do it asap.

religiously change fluid once a year even if you are riding less. the fluid is hygroscopic is nature hence absorbs moisture.
also there might be slight air in the system relating to the spongy feeling.

coming to LED healight. with shipping its comes to 40$ if you are ready to spend 40$ then rather spend 60 and get cyclops.
rrnearev bought from ebay for 5K. else someone to hand carry from states. i am a premium buyer at aliexpress but i would suggest you to buy LED bulb locally / ebay.in else cyclops.

Exposure to sun causes ruptures in the brake lines. Have them checked and replace if needed (brake fluid too).

Ah, this sucks! Aliexpress has been hit or miss for me, but it has been good for others. Delivery timelines are 39 to 60 days. Too much if not opting for expedited shipping.
Search locally, else hit eBay India for Cyclops. You have the link in Shv18's CBR thread.
Replied in bold.
