  • Mumbai RTO Headlight Use.

    Hi,

Dont know if this topic belongs to this section, moderators pls move the topic in the correct section if not here. Thank You.

I ride a KTM Duke 2016 Model, i was caught by a RTO Cop for having the headlight switched on during the day, and he wanted to fine me for the same. First of all i am not aware if this kind of law exists, so i asked him to show me the law written, he shows me a card with the offenses and their respective fines, in which this so called offense was highlighted with a marker, No offense/law section was mentioned in the card. First of all i asked him to keep my license and give me a receipt because i wanted to make sure if this law does exists, but he refused to do so and was adamant to fine me. Finally i showed him that the bike had automatic lights and there was no way that these can be switched off, still he was adamant to fine me. After a lot of arguments with him finally he calls his senior and we all have the same arguments and after seeing that i was not ready to pay the fine and negotiate they return my license and ask me to leave without paying the fine.

Since morning i am searching the internet to find out if such a law does exists, but i am not able to find any specific offense. Just wanted to know if such offense does exists where i am fined for my safety.

    Thank You.

    Approved!
Where do such moronic cops come from? While the world is moving towards daytime running lamps for added safety, these imbeciles are dragging the society backwards.

There is NO SUCH law prohibiting lights during the day. Next time, please note down his name and take his pic if possible.

No such law states that one cant keep their headlight on. The same thing happened when we had tri state g2g and the panipat police stopped the couple who were doing world tour on gs1200 for having their headlight on, and a ninja 250r too.
Since thw place is famous for not being safe, the guy paid 100rs and we left from there.

Since then honestly I don't give a damn to these cops saying that its illegal. Always ask for the rules stating it just like ts did it.

This is interesting. What exactly was the offence mentioned in this card? "Headlamp ON in day time"?? And how much is the fine for this??

                Re: Mumbai RTO Headlight Use.

Many HD's have been caught in the past for the same and they have been fined.

Police term the switched on headlights as "illegal usage of headlight during day".

Atleast there RTO cops are having this lights in their rule book, but this is too much to fine a vehicle with head lights on during daytime.

I find many vehicles(motorcycles/car/buses/lorries and many more at least in TamilNadu) without lights during night time, but they are not even stopped by our beloved policemen.

Unfortunately i could not wait for doing this as i was already late for work, but this guy had the offenses printed on a card he did not allow me to take an image of it.

Yesterday the whole day i was searching i was searching for this offense, but the only law about the headlight is about the intensity of lamps that can be used.

This was at R Mall Junction, Mulund. The card was in marathi stating use of headlight during the day and the fine was Rs. 100.

I dont have the HD's installed on my bike, they are the stock lamps from the manufacturer.

                          Thank you for this!

We really have to start knowing the law and the penalties very well.

If we try to understand the qualification required for these cops to be hired, the hiring and training processes, their style of working and their knowledge (or the lack of it) about the law, we can easily know why such moronic acts happen.

They need to start knowing that if they can't attempt to know the law, we can learn and follow it better than them.
