Lets take a situation where you are riding at 70kph and a crosswind from the right keeps blowing towards you with varying velocity. Consider a huge loaded truck(the likes of Ashok Leyland) overtakes from the RHS at a speed of 85 kph. What will happen next is the bike will get sucked in towards the truck.

        WHY?

You see the truck creates a vaccum when it passes by you in such a scenario.

Old Fox Sir, please correct me if I'm wrong.

As for a solution to the problem, reducing speed and stopping entirely if called for, is what I suggest. As also keeping a keen eye on the RVMs like my friend shrinathrao has opined.

best thing is ....dont let any truck overtake you..

c'mon man...cars or LMV's overtaking you is fine....but if a truck is able to overtake us ....shame....on bikers....

ya trucks coming from oppsite direction is sure a problem....

Try Heavy bike like bullet or Enthiser

I have better Experience with my Pulsar in heavy Crosswinds then Karizma

i feel very unbalanced in karizma then pulsar....

Crosswinds are hard to Face when ur riding in Two Wheels....
Doesnt matter u ride an R1 or an Starcity....Crosswinds will pull you or Push you to either of the Directions...
The better way to avoid Crosswinds are to Ride Slowly....at windy roads may be somewhere around 50ish....and drive the bike in Racing Style seating position,,,,
This will avoid winds pulling you sideways and also gives you some Grip to the Road....

I think you meant the Yamaha cruiser Enticer.

It had a dry weight of 116 kgs and it was very unstable in cross-winds.

Re: How to counter crosswinds on highway rides??

Holding a steadily decreasing throttle (so that you don't suddenly lose control with the loss of power) is the only thing that's worked for me. Even then, it's not a perfect solution. Guess cross winds are something that most bikes are not designed for.

Extreem_Rider, heavy cross winds are extremely difficult to handle even on the bullet. Especially if the cross winds are accompanied by rains.

Noticed the date stamps just now. So till the manufacturers figure out how to deal with the cross winds, the issue will remain just "crosswinds in a teacup", huh? :-))
