I own a 1999 Bajaj Caliber that has run about 75000 kms and till now i never had to open up the engine area even once. The first time i changed the clutch plate was about 2 months ago when the oil compartment had to be opened to change the gear rod which holds the gear lever. The rod had lost its threading and as the oil compartment was opened for the first time in 10 years, i decided to change the clutch plate also though it hadn't worn out completely.
The point that i would like to make here is, i believe that constant usage of NULON and STP may have helped to keep my bike engine healthy. Many techno gurus have advised me not to use any engine oil additives but i have been using them for last 10 years and have got excellent results.
Before using NULON ensure that the bike engine is warmed up and remember to shake the can for atleast 5 minutes. After adding the contents run the bike for atleast 30 minutes. These instructions are mentioned on the can but many people dont follow them.
    Cheers.
    nice piece of info there.
but STOP USING BOLD and these kinda COLORS for ur entire post!

What I don't get is that there's plenty of information online that says these additives are mostly bogus. Still people seem to be believing it. I firmly believe that a good semi-synth or full synth oil will benefit you much more than adding some unproven additive to you bikes oil. Since these oils already contain a whole package of additives, who knows if this will help or actually upset things?

And another thing I've noticed here, is that the start post seems to be purely promoting the product, with no usage experiences mentioned? (And then a first post from a new member shows up harping how good the product is? I'm sorry, but it sounds all too much like your regular marketing tactic that is being employed by many companies.)

For another look at these additives: http://www.carbibles.com/additives.html and Google

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to start a war here about the effectiveness of the product, just that I'd like to see some unbiased comparison. I believe some healthy sceptisism towards these products is warranted. (More so since in the US the FTC has already smacked down many companies promoting additives from claiming many of the miracle that these products supposedly provide.)

^^^ Adante, no matter how much info is available to the contrary, a lot of people will still use it. That is why they are still available widely. I'd suggest that you sit back and just read all the spectacular things good ole PTFE can do to IC engines... just like the magic N2 can do for tyres. I'm damn sure they will start appearing in the next few posts.

I agree with you to an extent but it's not possible for the oil companies to add up everything and create one 'Ultimate' oil with all the properties! Hence the additives comes into picture. Else, why Bournvita doesn't contains all the additives that are present in 'Creatine'? And honestly speaking, a person riding a Splendor or any other 100 CC bike will not invest in a 900 rs of Synthetic oil, but they can still go for this reasonable additive!

And another thing I've noticed here, is that the start post seems to be purely promoting the product, with no usage experiences mentioned?

I'm a student dude, so take it easy! I'm not at all endorsed by this company! (wish i could've been)

Be optimist man! Why don't you consider it as a good start for a new member!!! Anyways the topic was approved by moderator!

For another look at these additives: Car maintenance bibles: Oil Additives and Google

Lastly, no hard feelings! There's is no MOA to compulsarily use this product!!

            @ ANDANTE

            Dear Friend,

I replied to the post because i have genuinely been using NULON / STP for about 10 years now. I donot represent any 'Oil Additive Company' nor am i trying to promote any automotive product with malified intentions as being doubted by you.
I may be a Junior Member and have responded to this post because I thought i should share my experience with the person who started this topic on NULON as i have benefitted from this product though some automotive gurus like you and many articles on the internet have warned against usage of additives suggesting that they may result in rusting or formation of sludge. However, my experience is exactly opposite.
Well, if you still doubt my usage of NULON / STP then i suggest you read my review on Kawasaki Caliber at www.mouthshut.com. The heading is "My Companion for Life" submitted on 4th Sept 2006. Even in this review i have mentioned that i have benefitted from regular usage of NULON & STP.
            (www.mouthshut.com / Kawasaki Caliber / My Companion for Life / 4th Sept 2006)

I think the purpose of this forum is to encourage members to share their experiences, make suggestions, clear their doubts, get opinion of other members etc. Let us not doubt the intentions of junior members or discourage them by labelling them as representatives or any automotive company trying to sell their products. Let us understand that even the senior-most member of this forum was a junior member when he/ she submitted the first post/reply.

            Cheers

                @ all:

Again, the intent of my message was not start a war, nor to brand anyone a representative of any company.

As I expressed, I'd like to see a nice unbiased comparison of plain oil vs treated oil.

                @yashdiep:

Nothing is perfect => Since these oils already contain a whole package of additives, who knows if this will help or actually upset things?
If it benefits you, I won't stop you. Peace.

                @harmony_603:

I did not intend on making you feel like I'm branding you as a company representative. However, when you come into a discussion, using bold blue text, with a rather biased POV expect some sort of rebuke from one or more people, especially on a subject that is controversial to begin with and has lots of information available to the contrary.
So that's how it is, nothing personal. So chill, be at peace. And don't hesitate to write anything anywhere. But also remember that others have the same kind of freedom and may not hold back just because it's your first post.

Ya I also have a similar doubt.. Is this additive better than a Semi/fully synthetic oil
If so what are its pros?

Given all that is written online on the subject, there's little chance the additive actually will make any difference in a properly conducted test.

A good (semi) synthetic oil is probably going to be a better investment. Maybe a bit more expensive, but the combo of good mineral oil plus additive will probably cover most of the cost of a decent semi synthetic oil. That is not even counting extended drain periods for (semi) synthetics, the additive thing doesn't even mention anything about it. It's quite possible that after factoring in the drain period a (semi) synthetic is more cost effective. But that's under the assumption you drain the mineral oil + additive at the normal interval for mineral oil.

Ok, let me tell my experience with Nulon. I have a trusty 40k old alloys 150 pulsar. It has run 30k wit a free flow exhaust and very hard ripping. Except for sprockets, i have not opened the engine. Every time i ask my mech to change the clutch plates, he wil never do it. But i believe its time to change the valves.
Nulon, yes i would recommend strongly, but never use it on a bike with less than 10~12k on odo.
Reason ?, as per the product, it is supposed to give the bore a bit more life by forming a very thin coating on the insides and also in the gears. Only an engine with proper clearance could take nulon easily, else your bike might over heat. Hence avoid strictly in new engines. Nulon has to added along with the engine oil in 4stroke bike. Use it once it 5k km. It costed 110 in chennai, now not sure.

ps. I am not sure whether my bikes engine is good because of nulon or due to bajajs excellent manufacturing quality or due to my utmost run in care.

for ppl who tell that this is waste of money and doesn't boost performance, understand that this is not a performance supplement, but a health care treatment. Hence you cannot judge untill late 40k , 50k km on bike ridden with nulon.

My piston and bore started to develop some play @24k on the odo. Instead of buzzing sound you get darr---darr sound. I need to try this after a fresh oil change.
