  • My souped-up R15

    Hey all,

Have been wanting to post this for long!! so here it goes...

Those of u from the earlier xBhp shud know about my experiments with a pulsar 150V1 executed thanks to the EngineHacker. But all good things come to an end and so I had to sell off my Pulsar. Picked up an R15 by August 2008. Loved the bike. To be frank, after riding the R15 every other bike gave me shivers. It defined what handling meant!

My dear friend Joel visited me in October. He had done just about 2K kms on his bike and had already opened it up and done some stuff on
it. I fell in love with the bike instantly. It atleast moved as it looked! Wanted something similar or better...

Fixed up thinks with Joel and finally left the bike with him by June IIRC! There were a few things on cards and I never even bothered to ask him what he was planning. I knew that its gonna be great!

Finally picked up the bike on August - 15th. Acording to Joel, he has potrted the bike, given it a hi-lift cam and a tuned length free flow.
Before I picked up my bike I had almost forgot how a stock R15 felt like and the only other R15 I happened to sample was Joel's which was from a totally different planet!!

Our dear Joel though forgot to stuff the super free-flow exhaust with glass - wool and it was sounding as loud as possible!! I had no problems overtaking anyone on the highway on the return leg from Bangy to Chennai. Just whack the throttle in 6th gear at 4K - 5K rpm and it surges forward. I did not even have to down-shift on the ride [Its so very loud too] . I had to hide from cops at Chennai at every signal though.

After bringing the bike to my home, I was totally held up for a week. Finally last weekend, I removed the silencer and gave it for chrome plating. Got it back yesterday. Got some glass wool and stuffed the silencer.

    What was earlier this: -

    is now this: -

(Forgive me for the poor pic quality. Will post clearer pics morrow or the day-after!)

There is still space for stuffing more glass wool. I just could not get my hands off it and so riding it now. The sound is so atleast 50% more muffled although its still got some more wool to be stuffed in!

The way the bike accelerates beyond 4K rpm is just freakin' awesome!

Still to sample it in the city or highway. Will update all that am doing as it happens!

Got the spark plug changed. Am yet to change the oil and air filter. Also required are rear brake pads and a new rear tire! Guess these have to wait for another 5 days till the next weekend!

Yep, mine is the third. Navnish has a 165-cc setup, I have a hi-lift cam setup and Joel has both and more than that too!!

Yeah, it took him sometime cos he is involved with his TEN10 racing projects and I was busy getting Leh'ied!

Brought it to office today and it was great. Yet to time a 0-60 or 0-100, but all I can say is that the bike hits the rev-limiter in no time! Its just awesome!

Great, looks like Joels work is really starting to get into high gear. Compared the overpriced Yamaha race kit I'm sure this does much better and still is a bargain.

So, your thread is up. Will meet you some day and check the bike. I still remember the mad mid-range rush your erstwhile p150-converted-to-p200 provided. Eagerly waiting for a ride on your machine.

Yes, very true sir!! He was even suggesting me for the 165cc kit. Poor me, had a good loan running for the Leh trip and my new PC that I did not want to stretch it further.

Screw the 0-60, how about those 0-100 timings?? (maybe even with a vid)

Navnish bike felt alot more torquey than a stock R15 when I last rode it. Different behavior altogether.
