    Hi,

    I have few questions !!!

Is this 3 months time is a minimum time frame ?? I mean is it a rule by which police cant issue Non-Traceable report before 90 days ???

Second, if the bike is stolen within 1st year, what is the expected amount that is paid back ?? Is it the full value of the bike (ex-showroom value without those tax / registration and blah blah) in which it was insured or do they deduct any charge ???

      1. Yes 3 months time is officially the minimum period but if you have links with the respective police station then you can try to get it within 45-60 days.....no matter what you'll have to give "pocket-money" to the respective officer of Rs 300-400...your language shouldnt be offending...means ... never say "apko paise de dunga magar muje report chahiye"...Nooooo its insulting...try to say "sir...jo bhi apka kharcha hoga main uska barabar dhyan rakhunga aap fikar mat karo bus mera kaam karwa do...request hai aap se"....sarkari log hai brother use political slang with them....

      2. If your bike is stolen within 1 year (just like mine) then you'll receive the amount which is mentioned in your insurance certificate. 10% will be deducted from that amount for handling charges, taxes, fee etc.... for instance if you bought a bike for 60K (ex showrrom)...your insurance claim will be approx Rs 50-52 K for first year...and if the bike is stolen in first year then 52K-10% = 46-47 K (approx)...will be the claim which you'll receive.

Crash course in Bribing Officers! I have experienced the same too! Never make them feel that they are doing a wrong thing by accepting your bribe. Instead they should feel that they are doing a great service to you. And the bribe is something that you have given willingly! Bloody hypocrites!

Dude, I didn't say anything about claims and how you have paid for the policy. What I ment is choose the insurer well in the 1st place... one who has the simplest requirements and best service. Generally the PSUs are not known for service/facilities or speedy pay outs.

About those couple of exceptions you mentioned - they may be the factor between you getting your claim money fast or not at all!! I checked out the mentioned rules of a few companies... they are similar... but not same!

Dude, no use blaming them. I liked the recent Tata Tea ad very much. Things are such because we have made them such. We are ever so eager to pay bribes... are they fools not to accept??

OT - If only they would discharge their duties efficiently and with responsibility! We Indians have this "chalta hai" attitude. A common man has no other discourse than to bribe them.

^^^ Not true. I'v almost never paid bribes. And I know others who don't either... and they get their work done hook or by crook. Just resolve not to pay bribes, as a matter of principle, even if you are a common man or a beggar. If you pay, then we get what we deserve. No point cribbing, and no point blaming others, when our own house is not in order.

To give an example, my BSNL internet was not working. I called up each and every higher level officials and complained. Waited outside their offices for long hours. They kept assuring me and this drama went on for about 50 days. Their excuses varied from line problems to server problems to my modem problems etc etc. I was fed up and decided to see what a little money could do. A 50 bucks later, my net was in order within 24 hrs. If I would have has other alternative ISPs I would have gone for them, even if they were slightly costlier. But I had no other choice! So, what else could I have done?

Anyways, it is OT in this thread. My last post here regarding this topic.

Well, we have a BSNL landline for years and now their broadband too. Have had our share of troubles with them too... as you know how their service is. And the biggest trouble I can remember was to get the service in the first place. But have never paid a dime in bribes to them... and its going good. Anyway, as you said, this is going way off topic, so wont elaborate. Signing off this topic, but lets remember - if this land is corrupt, its because we are ever so eager to pay. Pay and enjoy the corruption, no excuses.

We should not bribe, yes I agree. We all are against it. My bike was stolen in Jan 2009 and I got my Non-Traceable report in August (8 MONTHS AFTER) whereas rules say it MUST be delivered within 3 months. It took so much time because I DID NOT WANT TO BRIBE. I went to the station's S.H.O for help and he asked me to go to court and bring an affidavit (which is required in case of unfulfilled duties of govt employees). I went to court and found that the "fee" of the lawyer is Rs 500. I came back thinking that sooner or later that cop will give me my report without any bribe. Even in August when it was too much late with frustration, I had committed not to bribe them but the cop was shameless enough to ask me for the money even after delaying it for 5 months. I had to pay him even after 8 months, I could have received my report on time if I wouldn't have been so rigid to not to pay bribe earlier.

When you are caught in the mid of this corruption storm without any help, you'll have to adopt the same ugly way of shedding some notes on these corrupt and shameless babus. Where am I now, I have still not received my claim. Imagine what would I have been feeling all the way.

God save this country's judicial system.

The whole system is so used to bribing that they just cease to function without bribes! Disgusting!

Disgusting is the word! But didnt you try to bring this to the notice of the Police higher ups? Or the Anti Corruption Bureau, etc?

Generally private insurance companies are supposed to deal with claims much faster. If you are not happy with your insurance company, don't hesitate to change to another company promptly. There are so many options now.

So whats your opinion about your company (Oriental)?

We know about insurance companies!!! They can do any thing to avoid giving claim money. This happened with me 2 years ago when I had accident on my Xtreme. I had injuries, But that Insurance Company (National Insurance Company) inspector was not at all convinced and he was asking me to get Medical report from a doctor that my injuries were genuine and not made (Is it required ?? I dont think so), Any proofs at the time of accident (for god sake I had accident on a road where no one launders after 9pm and i fell at 11.00pm and how the hell can they expect to get a proof??)

My dad got very furios, And he throwed all the documents and papers on his face (literally) in front of every one and came out!!! And all this drama by that guy was for amount of Rs 6000/-.

Here in India, the foundation in not the ethics, but its bribery. No matter how hard you try, you get pulled into it, Ofcourse Devil has more options that good. Cant help it, Even god cant save this country.

You could have filed an appeal with the Insurance Ombusdsman and other authorities, etc. Consumer court is also an option. Getting furious and throwing stuff will not help much. Insurance is a contract and it has to be honoured, when the claim in genuine. I have only made 2 claims for our car with Royal Sundaram. Cashless. Went without a hitch with all formalities taken care of by the dealer. And many other people I know have gotten their claims without too much hassles.

Try private insurance companies. I'd just avoid ICICI and Reliance.
