Wonder why people don't like "Karizma" as a name of bike?
When it was launched, it really had its charisma on bikers, n mind you people, it still has (though less than what it was).

I know everybody has expressed their personal opinion.
But I am curious to know if there is any justification.

No offense mate, but "Pulsar" was branded as "Definitely male!".

Hey, a - paa - chey is a lot better than appa-cchi which means flat\flattened.....and quite honestly, thats how the name sounds, atleast to me....flat.

Worst yet is how the bike and its name have no relation whatsoevr. Why name it after some american indian tribe that nobody knows of...the name doesnt sound cool either (unless you associate it with that killer attack heli....but how many know theres a heli like that).......
Similar deal with for karizma, alba, gladiator, discover, O! slingshotu, zeus.......just ridiculous.

Then theres another class of goof ups.....glamour, hunk, unicorn, mojo, enticer, passion....and vRod...chee chee.
Who names a bike as unicorn? they should have released it in pink also.

Theres also the 'well meaning but sounding silly' category:
B-king....sounds like some pimp name.
Pulsar...images of peas, dal, bengal gram and local vegetable seller comes to my mind.
TVS Menace....reminds me of dennis the menace.
Graptor....sounds like raptor...cool!!! but its graptor.
BYK...ok. just plain silly

Yamaha is smart. They realised the hit or miss nature of names and stuck with the safety of alphanumerics or naming after their bigger bikes wiht their recent releases.

I like RTR hyper edge the most among current indian releases. Its somewhat abstarct yet identifies with the bike. Few other awesome ones:

Fiero
Shogun
CBR600RR....rolls so nicely.
Bandit
ZZR-1400....somehow reminds me of zorro.
Desmosedici....in italian it means some technical shit, but sounds wicked!!!!
RTZ....very nice set of letters if you pronounce Z as zed.
Luna....means moon in latin. Quite a beautiful name. would have seen better use on a ladies scooter.

if you are saying that semi-numerical names are better then why rx100 is better from a CD100..obviously in terms of bikes they are way apart from each other but its just a name thread then why being partial to one??

Five best names according to me:

1. CBZ (This was a cool name which ruled for ages)
2. Gladiator (A good name for a bike I believe)
3. Unicorn Dazzler (I like the Dazzler name)
4. Apache RTR (This really sounds like the Apache helicopter, I like)
5. Pulsar (This was again a trend setting name)

1. Platina (Seriously?)
2. Byk (Although I don't even consider it as a bike)
3. XCD (What does that even mean?)
4. Hunk (Really feels like a 'gay'ish name though the bike is good)
5. Glamour (Oh crap! Both the bike and the name suck)

Activa (simple and enthusiastic)
Trigger ( like pulling the trigger of gun)
Splendor (evergreen and splendid)
Shine (denotes shining colors)


Bad names:
Apache ( apache tomcat and tamil meaning is funny)
Pulsar (sounds like some dinosaur)
CT100 (imitating CD100 of honda)
Glamour (Herohonda\'s condom nomenclature lol)
Platina(inspired from platinum but rusts soon )

Since HD has launched in india I can well state the weirdness of some of their bike's name
1)Night rod??? Well If you have a dirty mind like mine That could make a very good nickname for your tool.
2)Heritage Softail Classic sounds like some exotic massage plan to me.
3)Softail heritage deluxe A more expensive version of the above plan...
4)Ultra classic electra glide... For a smooth shave I can imagine.
5)Fat boy... I was one when in school.
6)Fat bob... your overly obese co-worker I suppose.

But they also have some awesome names like the 883 Iron.
Some of the worst indian company bike names
1)Alba??? Halba is a sweet dish available in Mysore But even That tastes kind of weird.
2)Wego rhymes with lego.
3) Stunner... Stone cold influence maybe.
4) Ignitor... I wanted a whole bike not a small component.
5)Hastur.. maybe another parsi surname like Dastur.
6)Hayate... Dont know what to say.
7) Slingshot...Gulel/Baechki in local tongues.


In the grey area its Apache.Although I own one My friends say it's Papa chi(marathi for belonging to father).

2)Lightning 535.Sounds quick doesn't it? It's just disappearing from everyone's memory as fast as its name.
3)Taurus Diesel...Sounds brutal and powerful but ride it and you realise it's only in the name.
4)Impulse... People will buy it based on its looks in an "IMPULSE" and realise that its a lot tamer than the looks suggest.
5)RC 390...Heyyy it's not Indian... Ohh sorry Indians just own the company...you know.

Best

PULSAR: Cant express how I used to feel about this Bike(Name, Looks, Performance- Used to love everything about it in my teens. Unfortunately never was able to own one).
RD350: Even the name has a character.
Apache RTR: The first time I heard it in an AD with that accent from the narrator(RTR 160 ad), I was sold.
CBZ: Its still an Iconic name, though I cant say the same about the bike anymore.
Bullet: Perfect name for a bike, made like a Gun.

Worst-

Serious Competition between SlingShot(Why am I still alive!!) Passion/Glamour/Pleasure(As somebody said, suits for Condoms), Dream Yuga/Dream Neo(Sounds like some real estate projects) .
Seriously!!!! Name of bikes?
Though its subjective, still, most of us will agree to these.
