No it's not true. A 55W halogen has more heat emission than a 55W HID. Moreover you can safely install a 35W HID, without even thinking for a second!Originally posted by iBerry View PostI've been thinking of using HID on my 220 too... but only want the HID on Hi-beam, without switching the pilot lamps to LED. I heard that over time the reflector of the Hi-beam will get messed up with HID cause of the heat, is this true?
And if you installing just on HID, no need to replace the pilot bulbs as well.Been There, Done That; Better!

There are different kinds of HIDs, the one which you are talking about where bulb filaments moves back and forth are Bi-Xenons, these are H4 types. For 220F, there are two separate bulbs for High and Low. You will be needed to buy the H7 type HIDs for each beam.Originally posted by iBerry View PostDo we get HID that are like a single dedicated hi-beam HID? I have come across ones that have twin beam HID where the bulb filament moves back and forth for low and hi-beam. Also which is the best place to install the ballast on P220F?
In 220F, you have a metal frame just behind both the bulbs, this I find the most suitable place for placing the ballasts.Been There, Done That; Better!

Thanks for making it clear.... H7 Single beam HID, will do a search for it. Will the pass light work? I am currently using a deltran battery tender which i plug into the bike each night. It keeps the battery in check 12.8V then goes into trickle charge once the optimum level is reached. Hope this will take care of my battery once i install my HID.

Pass light will ofcours work, however if your both beams are HID then it will be an issue, HIDs take about 4-7 seconds to reach their full intensity. Also, frquent flashing of HIDs will reduce the life of the bulbs.Originally posted by iBerry View PostThanks for making it clear.... H7 Single beam HID, will do a search for it. Are you having any issues with the battery? If not there's no need of charging the battery. If you still have doubts just go for 35W HID, which will consume far lesser current then the 220's coil actually produce.Been There, Done That; Better!

But for the lot, which includes me, there nothing know as enough light!
Even before buying my 220, I had thought of using both the beams together, and finally, I have successfully tried and tested, such setup.
The usage idea is simple. The low beam works as a single beam, but when switchover to high beam, my low beam remains on, along with the high beam. (With a toggle switch to go back to stock setup)
The modification makes use of a relay, because the 220’s BCU does not simply allow both the bulbs to work, simply by shorting the two. Still, the mod is simple, and is fully reversible and does not need any kind of wire cutting, hence no problem with warranty with the bike or HID. The BCU is not all bad, as it automatically switches of the light in case of overload or severe battery drain.
This mod applies only to HIDs. As combined load of 2 HIDs is just 70W. We need to replace the Pilot Bulbs to LEDs saving 10W. So in stock mod our bulb setup consumes 2X5=10W + 55W = 65W. Where’s as twin HID’s consume 35W X 2 = 70W.
Setup is simple. The (+)Ve of the Low beam Bulb, goes to the relay at A. When the Low beam is selected the relay is not activated and low beam completes the circuit through point B and goes to the socket of Low Beam. When the High Beam is selected, the High Beam glows as well as the Relay get activated, and hence the low beam completes the circuit at C, and the low beam gets power through High Beam Socket. A Toggle switch, keeps the Relay deactivated even if high beam is selected.
So go ahead and have the best possible illumination on any Indian Stock Bike!
I have been testing it for last few days, and it does not affect the battery. In case of a problem with the relay, the bike simply returns to stock system (Single Beam HID not Halogen).
BTW my HID is Raylux (CAR) 35W x 2, 6000K bought for 7000/- Rs.
Keep Modding.....

I am noting down your modifications, will do them when i'll have moneyLast edited by sandwichk; 06-18-2013, 09:39 PM.Pulsar 220 Fi (2008) 28k km

re: Bajaj Pulsar 220 Twin Beam HID Modification
Can I use both my beams without putting any HID cz I am not very happy with HID's , I had issues with the headlight glass cracking every year. Both the halogen bulbs working at the same time would cause any problem during long run, I ride on highways mostly and I am doing this upgrade coz I would be riding back to my home next week.
Please help.
Thanx ;-)
