  • Hi light masters and auto electricians,

From the first day of reading this thread I am considering an HID upgrade on my 220.

Here is what I wanna do:

a 55W 4300K HID on the low beam (I will get the bulb + ballast for Rs 3500).
I would like to maintain the high beam as stock.
But is there any way to achieve pass beam with this combo.

I am not considering full time twin beam
    since :
    55W HID+55W Halogen = 110 W consumption.
    or
    35W HID + 35W HID = 70W consumption

These two of them will be an over load??

I think a 55W single beam will be sufficient for me.
    But pass is the problem.

can I use the pass (which lasts only few seconds) along with the 55 W HID on the low beam?

    please advice

a 35 w HID is much much brighter than a 55w halogen . i would recommend to go for 35w hid .also remember HIDS consume about 80-100w at startup and go down to 35 after 20-30 secs when bulb arc stabilizes . your hid cost is for 1 bulb or 2 ?

There's no point in going for 55W HID, there's hardly any difference in light output.

What you can do is either (1) 35W HID + 35W HID = 70W or if you want to keep the high beam stock, go for (2) 35W HID (LOW) + 55W Halogen (High) = 90W. It's won't drain the battery.

          Thanks guys.
the cost is for a single bulb+single ballast.(55W).
But I cant believe the fact that 35w HID == 55w HID in light generation
I thought 20 w difference in consumption will result in reasonable difference.

          Few more questions:
in case if I am going for 35w HID on both beams how will I use pass ?

I will consider 35w+35w since 35w hid is cheaper than 55w for me
but I think the pass will be a problem, also the cost involved for relay etc will be too high , if I am correct??

55 w will give higher lumen output but produces a lot of heat and takes lot of current to start .

pass will be problem as hids take time to reach max light output and if you just flash hids for few secs it also shortens bulb life .

relays arent expensive , cost around 200-250 rs and they should be included with the hid kit for the price you are paying .

yes heat will be a problem. Almost given up the 55 W idea.

I was saying about the relay for twin beam HID mode... like in this thread, is that just Rs 200 relay?

Many of you guys have already running twin 35w beams. how you manage to give a pass with out hurting the bulb?

flashing hids for 1-2 secs is bad but not that bad that bulb will ruin in a month . its just that they take time to start that people prefer halogen for hi beam in 220 . best combo for you would be 35hid lo and 55w hi beam .

                • Thanks brother.
will go for HID only on low beam.

                  Thanks for your advice.

is it necessary to put up a separate switch if we install HIDs?

                        • A Separate switch is recommended for this TWIN BEAM mod. For simply installing HID it's plug and play.

i dont want TWIN BEAM mod jus a single beam(low).

                            the mechanic i plan to install HID from says he would have to put a separate switch;
he said sumthing about magnet current and throttle which i didn't understand.

im a complete noob when it comes to eletrical.

so should i install HID from him or search for another mech.

also can u explain me in layman language about how to wire HID properly without the need of extra switch
i went through 124 pages of "LET THERE BE LIGHT"
but couldn't get any idea from it.

Even you mech seems like a noob or is trying to confuse customers so he can charge extra . for just installing HID on pulsar its a plug and play job as its a full DC bike . no wire cutting or anything . no extra switch is needed . the relay will protect the stock wiring and switch .
are you planning to put hid on both beams or only one ?
