Switching off at signals

    I've read comment on switching off engine around 10-15 secs. In Mumbai, by that time people are already inching forward. Anything below 5-10 secs and they are off , depending on the traffic junction. However towards the main city (south), people do wait for the green light.

      I'm from south mumbai.. Believe me, everyday I see atleast 10 bikers jump the signal as soon as the other signal's light turn yellow. But I agree, people is south mumbai follow traffic rules a bit more then anywhere else but thats only coz we find cops standing after almost every signal

        Actually, it is only worthwhile to switch off the engine if you are going to wait at a signal for more than a minute.

          i alway switch of my engine on signals
          but would that harm my engine ?

            Its a seperate switch on the most new bikes which helps us to switch off the engine without turning off the ignition key. It has its own set of advantages as discussed by someone earlier.
            PS: HH ZMR does not have the engine kill switch, i rechecked on google

              Another point I would like to make regarding switching off in traffic signals. Sometimes I switch off especially those junction where its normally long. The irritating thing is, every now and then, all the vehicles/bikes would re-ajdust their position like moving forward a bit or filling up the empty spaces etc. And you have to restart the engine. Yeah, sometimes I just push forward .

              Anyway, yesterday I was stopped in a redlight with several vehicles. Just before it turns green, everyone started moving, I follow suit. But lo and behold, one bike has shoot off so fast it was leading the pack by a good distance, and guess what.... a pizza delivery guy . These guys are always in a hurry.

                ^^+1.. I mostly switch off my engine only if I feel I have the comfortable enough place at the signal & I wont need to start back unless the signal turns green. But still I get honked at signals many a times But mostly I do not start my engine again

                  i switch it off if i have to wait for more than 30 seconds..I start the bike only when the guy ahead of me starts moving after green signal.
