Its is a strict no-no while riding!!
But i cant resist it.. Because I also listen to music when i ride.. lol
It help me to get out of my boredom and also helps a lot in concentration while driving..
But with low volume, so that i can hear the things going on road!!
Its true, when it is a heavy metal.. I go nuts!!
Drive and throttle according to the beat :P But decently..

The only advice to give is to use earphone which have the open.. Like the old kinda earphone..

Not the present earphone like the below one

Because its very dangerous, even if you have very low volume..
As it fits perfectly into ears that even passage of air is hard!!
So i would recommend the open end kinda earphone, if you listen to music while riding!!
But it is advisable not to listen to music :P lol

Guys, allow me to vomit some truth on this thread.

People have accidents even without earphones/ mobiles and in their full senses. Then why would the wise men put earphones?

I had an accident when my full concentration was on the road. It was night time, someone had no headlights on, and I banged into him, because I couldn't see him in the darkness. A right arm fracture and blood flowing like... anything...

Despite my full concentration, the road absorbed my blood after all and I couldn't do anything.

You know what? Even If you say your chances of crashing are 0.01% (which is quite nominal) it means you will probably crash once in 10,000 kms. And nobody knows which day is your doomsday.

So, "No Distraction Whatsoever" is the message, and you better tattoo this rule in your mind if you wanna be my friend! Because, I don't befriend dead people, or the ones who're going to die soon.

On a lighter note, have a look at the quote below:

Don't multitask like calling, sms'ing and music,
Specially while riding bikes or doing s*x,

      Otherwise,
either your life will leave you,
or your wife will leave you!

wow, what a post man...absolutely loved your comparison style ...

and thats true, all riders will crash sometime, sooner or later, so be prepared for it.

and personally, i don't prefer to listen to music while riding. sometime back i had a line in my signature-"who needs a stereo when you have got a throttle"

Music while riding ??? NO way ...

just a 2 sec of concentration can cause serious damage to both bike and bikers ..

and music have the ability to change the mood of listeners .. imagine during riding one sad song starts playing from ur list .. ur mood changes and at the end .. someone else will be listening ur sad story of crash .... or worst .. a good music song might cause ur blood to rush with joy there by accelerating u for over-speed or over confidence ... again causing danger

^^ Very True, Yesterday night, I faced such incident while returning to Noida from My friend's place. A P220 rider was speeding and riding zig zag through rows of trucks on the Flyover...
There were two instances when he escaped collisions just because he was not able to hear the honking of Cars and trucks trying to overtake him.

Once he came too close to me (I avoided the collision somehow) and found that he was listening to songs on earphone (I could hear low beats of rythms when we stopped at a red light)

Add to it, he had removed RVMs and so could not see the traffic behind

Been riding with music on for ages and i always use in-ear phones that kill outside noise.Otherwise it gets boring riding on same stretch everyday. I always stay extra alert and touch wood, i nvr had a accident because of music or came close to one.
I turn off music in heavy traffic though.

I have been tempted so many times while riding to office & Mumbai but didn’t wear it, rather reach where I want to then switch on the Bluetooth or the system. Doesn’t make sense risking my own & someone else’s life.
No need to prove how use of headphones increases concentration or even if you are using since the age of 18. It is proven that use of headphones while driving affects reactions & reflexes & may be you can get carried away while listening to your favourite track. That is why it is illegal.
Today you are enjoying the music while riding but tomorrow you will be dead (killing someone else too) listening to the music while riding & unfortunately you will not be there to tell that story, I know this is harsh but it is the truth & no one can deny it.
                    Regards,
                    Abhijit

                      So,to sum it up,
people listen to music, but strictly advise others from doing so!

                        zzzzz

looks like everyone listens it while riding..... m not an exception. i go in the sleep mode if i don't listen it..... especially on long highways, but i keep a close eye on rearview mirrors to avoid any mishaps. However I don't need music when offroad, dirt track....it makes you less conscious and you could be thrown off the ridge.

I never do that, used to when I am not a xBhpian(no helmet) now helmet cuts the sound to good level and music kills the sound altogether, the losses you face becoz of this
                          You cant hear....
                          1) Who is honking
                          2) If there is Superbike in the vicinity you will miss the roar

All the wise men of the world are called wise only after they spoke their mind, so dont keep the ideas to yourselves!

I use the Apple Earpods its like having Open back headphones they don't block outside noise and give decent sound not too loud.

but still I want to know..whats the harm if i do so in low volume..!

Experienced bikers..! wd u strictly say NOto this question..?
I mean given the fact that I am a safe rider..I hardly get past 70 KMPH in my daily commute...!I feel very tempted to plug in my earphones and listen to some good music and enjoy my ride..

                                what wd u say..?
Oh Gosh, its a pretty old thread.

Its been 2-3 years I'm driving car for my daily commute to office. I hate the way some 2 wheeler guys using both earphones, listening to loud music and ignoring the honking bike, car, truck or any other vehicle behind requesting way to pass by. (No riding gear too, not even helmet)

Even I drive a bike and use the riding gear when doing it. I do too listen to music (it helps me to concentrate and be in a rhythm with my bike).

I know its not legal, not safe.

So here's what I do - I plug the earphone to my left ear ONLY, leaving the right ear free to hear the moving traffic. I keep the music volume at 50-60%.

                                Its still not safe though.

Riding safe is important and riding responsibly is a necessity.
