Hmmm...Now, that I think of it, there is the Safdarjung Airport which always remains vacant and that long wide strip will be sticky enough I believe!! Now, if only there could be a way to get in!

The Safdarjung strip belongs to the Aviation School in Safdarjung. And it does lie vacant for a good amount of time. And it IS sticky. Maybe senior members can join in a collective effort to pursue the convenor of xBhp to book it for a few hours of practice once a week or thrice a month.Originally posted by Aryan View PostWe sure would've..

Ofcourse it has to be a funded effort since hiring such a place even for a couple of hours is not going to come easy or very cheap. Which is why I said collective effort with seniors and the convenor.
I am ready to pay to a certain extent; just to see what it feels like to be on such a surface.The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

It is a Complete circuit and contains many parts which are plain where there is no grass..

Though you can post your leaning and bending on any surface since that is what the thread says. You can go and lean on the Indian Ocean for all I care and I would applaud from a distance.The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

hey guys....good to see xbhp back and more than that good to see this thread back.....
Here is my 2 cents on this.... hope this helps all the guys new at this until killer returns... I am posting some info on the basics of cornering and some pics of mine on the MMSC race track to give u a basic idea of how to corner.
Firstly lemme post about a few must haves before you try cornerning.
>> Proper Tires on your bike
>> A good set of Jacket, Helmet, Gloves, Hard Shoes and Knee sliders. A pair of jeans is always better than anything else in the world. For all those guys who can afford a good set of leathers nothing better.
>>A proper place to practice( A race track, A one way ghat like tirupati, A good highway with medians seperating traffic in the opposite direction are ideal spots)
>> Do Not and I mean do not try cornering in city roads or highways with no median in between.
>> Know that your normal road tires have a limitation. they are not sticky compound tires like a proper race bike. And if you arent on a race track there is a lot of chance that the surface has a lot of dust. So do not try leaning the bike more than it can.
>> A sincere advise to all those who want to properly learn leaning is to get a good set of tires on your bike. A few thousands spent on tires and riding gear is always better than A few thousands and a lifetime on broken body parts.
NOW to the actual thing.Get to a place you are familiar with and go around the place first to make sure there arent any debris lying on the road you are on. Now go to a corner which you are familiar with. Why i am saying this is coz on an unknown corner correcting the bike in case of mistakes would be a problem.
Now a mistake i see lot of people commiting is jamming the brakes real hard before a corner and then leaning hard and scraping parts which is absolutely the slowest way to corner. The best way to learn cornering is to use your brakes the least. Now lets get to some science to understand how to brake for a corner. The basic purpose of braking before a corner is to make your front forks dive in so that your front tire grips. As much as braking hard is bad...not braking at all is worse. You need to hit the brakes just enough so that the fork dives and your tire grips into the corner. If you just throw the bike into the corner without diving your forks ther is a lot of chance that your front end is going to wash of. Which is what exactly happened to one of our xbhp guys at a practice session on the MMSC. Now that you have understood the physics part of it.Ill continue with the steps to corner.
1. Approach the corner at the right speed( this u get by trial and error).
2. You should know the braking point( Again by practice). Once you know that the actual thing starts. Let us assume you are taking a hard right and a hard left.
3. To take the hard right you move to the left side of the track. Once you approach the braking point, tap the brakes enough to dive the forks. Throw your right shoulder and elbow out and also your bottom. Now many people think the more closer their knee is to the ground the better they are cornering which is false in most cases. The knee is to be used as a guage to find how much more u can lean.Now since your body weight is towards the right the bike automatically going into the corner. Your line should be such that you just touch the inside of the apex or corner with your knee. This is called clipping the apex. In geometrical terms this can be explained like this. The corner is a 90 degree turn and u draw a arc that cuts the corner right at the tip. In reality your are drawing a smooth arc to make the 90 degree turn easier.
4. Note that while you are doing this. Your head always points to the inside of the corner.
5. Once you have taken the right hander you immediately shift your shoulders, elbow and bottom to the other side and repeat the same procedure as you did for the right hander.
These are the basic procedures to start cornering. Once you learn the basics you can go to understanding the technicalities in details so that you can perfect the art of cornering.
Here are some tips and hints that will help you understand it better
- During each and every corner always make sure your eyes are looking at the exit of the corner, this very important to not look at the patch of tar in front of you because where you are looking you will go, so focus on the exit of the corner the bike will do the rest
- Your speed coming into the corner is probably the most important aspect, try get as much speed coming in as you can without having to break in the corner! If you can find that limit you have mastered half the battle of corner, the other half is getting through it without losing that precious momentum
- When cornering use as much of the track as you can without running wide or coming in short, keep that door closed!
- Watch out to not over cook the corner or you will most probably fall
- Too much leaning and not enough speed will also cause you to low-side so dont lean to the edge of your tyre if you wont be able to hold it there
- Dont accelerate fully till you reach the appex or you might run out of space on the track
- Too much speed and leaning can also cause you to fall as the bike will low-side on you (this is when the bike slips out from underneath you)
I will post some of my pics now to illustrate what i have said. Will post more in detail of the technicalities later.

Dude this is xbhp man. Cut out the formalities. I am sure there many people out there who can provide much more valuable info than i did. Killer for one is a guy who cud add a lot if he posts those useful info he had posted on the old XBHP. And if u really want to learn all this there is no better than Rajkumar Sir. I am just posting here coz guys can get a basic idea of the actual thing.
