about the kolkata-siliguri thing, I haven't really driven on that road ( a confession: I haven't really driven on most roads of India. I am what you call an armchair expert, I guess). But I have to say that there are a lot of roads out there in India that are equally bad. let's face it, when you buy an sbk in India you make a conscious decision to rough it out, take the good with the bad. You have to do this because india is still a poor country and hence it stands to reason that it's money must be spent on making roads that reach the remotest of villages. even if it means that the roads are only good enough for driving at 60kmph. i would rather take that than be driving on an indian autobahn while the majority of india does not have the roads.
that road is like the vein between the two cities......... so I mentioned it......... yes the roads are not upto mark in some places......... but atleast these are changing.......... slowly but changing.........

anyway, just read through the baby ninja thread where I saw a lot of whining about the price and dials,etc.. This just reinforces one of the things that i had said in my first post here. A lot of people say that they will buy a bike at a particular price. They do this because they rest safe in the knowledge that they are being merely asked whether they would consider buying it at that price. They know that no one is going to force them to buy the bike at that price later just because they said so earlier.
There may be a lot pf people who may have completely justifiable reasons. But I find it amusing that earlier the people just couldn't wait to get their hands on the baby ninja. Now that the baby ninja release looks in the offing and we have a speculated price of 3L, a lot of those very people think that it's "just a 30cc upgrade at the cost of 2.2 extra dough". I guess if we follow the same thought then there are a lot of 100cc bikes out there which can be bought at around 40k. Does that mean that the people who bought R15 were idiots because they paid 80k more for just and additional 50cc? I think this is just a refined version of the sour grapes situation.
bingo........ just to the point........ its like 'the grapes are sour' ..........

      • @ken- here is some news that might cheer you up a bit. Honda(not HH) will be releasing a 250 cc bike in the near future. i say this with authority because I am testing tyres made specially for the bike. Exact specs for the bike have not been disclosed but for the sake of tyre testing this is the information given: 250cc four stroke, around 25bhp, monoshock, 50/50 front/rear weight distribution, max speed 180kmph???
The tyres that we are testing are front tyre 100/80-17 and rear 140/70-17.
The max speed sounds optimestic but one never knows. My guess is a four stroke single in the lines of Brazilian CB250 twister.

        • 180km/h is way optimistic. Finally someone's ready to crack the 225cc ceiling.

You WHAT!!!! Are you allowed to divulge such things? This is crazy. Anyway, thanks for letting me know. How good do you think is the bike? What is the torque curve like? After you tested, did you find heating issues? Is it a downtube frame or a twin spar? I think it is a single downtube. If it is the CB 250, then it is 18.5 Bhp with 18 Nm of Torque. It they have tweaked it for a 25Bhp output, then may Glory bless them!
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

so the launch should happen in mid 2010 considering the tyres are already under testing. Why is HMSI so cunning???...

You got me wrong. I am only testing the tyres meant for the bike not the bike itself. I have no clue as to the exact specs of the bike except what was already mentioned in my previous post. Just a long shot ,the bike may resemble the CB250 Twister made for the Brazalian market. Check out the link below.

                    • Ahh! yes the TWISTER!! I remember getting astride one when the movie Dhoom was released here and it was showcased in a multiplex. One of my school-friend's dad had the twister but sold it off a few years back and bought him a Honda Magna instead (Hope i spelled the name correctly).

                        • Ken da wrote somthing meaning the same as "we still dont have a bike which can go 600kms in a day without huffing and puffing or the rider having no problem at all"

My point is do we still have any roads on which a rider can go a good mile without deaccelerating for a second??
Or do we have any roads on which we can run our so called mini super bikes without crushing our heads into the pot holes, pets,or being the worst a Human being??
                          Do we??
                          No I Suppose!!

Or how many of us can own a 600cc or 1000cc superbikes??
                          One in a city??
We youths die in the flame of technology..but the fact is that even if its available only few can have it,only those who really love the feel of 2 burning wheels between their groin...
Major mass is just satisfied with the rainbow stickers or the 100kmpl adds..
Any one who thinks big would in straight think of a CAR after owning a puny 125cc rather thinkin of a bike more powerfull than many cars..
Coz the die hard Indian mentality is "bike is bought once in life but we have to turn to petrol pumps every other day,so why take a headache"
So what we need is Efforts on every level, some change in mentallity some melting dilemmas..
But now slowly and gradually the winds changing, the tables are turning..
And you kno what this new sound of turning clocks is really melodious, this new winds really feels gr8 deep in the Soul!

Iam not cotradicting the gr8 chap ken da..
Am just keeping my point of view..

Highways in India have developed a lot. One can actually ride at 100kmph for quite a considerable stretch. And further improvements are going on.

Yeah, yeah of course its MRF. Completed only the first test a couple of days ago(will post a pic of the tyres if it is ok by MRF). The final production tyre will take a few months at least.
The latest that I have heard is that the bike is due only in mid 2011.
The spec of the front tyre that i had posted earlier was wrong as the tyre is actually 110/70-17 not 100/80 which is coupled to a 3 inches wide rim with rear having a 4 inch rim with a 140/70 -17 tyre, which strongly suggests (along with a few more details of the bike and the tyre specs that I know but not supposed to disclose) that it may be a twin cylinder as they have stated a top speed of 180kmph.
