  • That's very informative @Haroon. Thanks for the link & the write-up.
Its quite surprising as why they don't collect hefty money upfront, may be the Govt themselves know that what goes in will never come out & they don't want to extend the stay of any foreigner in this country.

On a lighter note, what happens when the duplicate key is not surrendered? Or would they ask for both the keys?

    • nice start after all those issues

Hey haroon... congrats on getting your bike from the customs and nice write up..... sad that the alloy got bent on your first long drive on Indian soil... A tip :when following a bus, try to be on the same track as the tires or else something big(pot hole, stone and what not ) can emerge from beneath the trucks and buses....

Doing 560kms is cool and still feeling like 300 more would have been fine ... hats off to GS and you ...

You got two more months for the actual ride... You might be missing ur GS now in Saudi

See you back in India with some great trip logs

I only received 1 key with my new bike, therefore, if customs lose it, I am..... (you know the word!)

        Thanks Roshan.
Badly missing my GS here. My wife was telling me in Blr when I was leaving for the airport- "this time you are leaving both your wives here"

Lol, I can understand that. Being BMW, I highly hope the key cannot be duplicated at any local stores, atleast in this country either. Better...the customs be careful.

              • Thanks Binoy.
Indeed, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride from Cochin To Bangalore, afterall I was riding in india after approx 18 years so the feeling was nice except for the pothole that messed my rim! Ofcourse, I have to be ready for all such things.
New rims cost a lot of $$$$, but since I have ridden more than 450kms after the hit, plus during the 1 week in bangalore, I did not notice any drop in air pressure so it looks OK. Anyways, when I return to Blr I am planning to straighten it then. I know of a guy (Baadshah) in JC road who does alloy wheels, but I am also searching for another guy in blr I heard about who repairs high end alloy wheels. Lets see. Anyway worst case scenario, I can always put in a 19 inch Royal Enfield tube (yes, you can put tube in tubeless tires)

Ya the same rim bend happened to my bike and i also have put the tube. it's not only the problem of the road, infact the alloys of FZ is notorious for the bends, but for me there's no air leak and when i inquired about the straightening of the alloy many people recommended not to do it, coz some said after the heating and straightening process the alloys will loose its temper/rigidity, don't know its true or not, so my opinion is to stay away from it coz BMW's alloys are not cheap as mine.
Anyways waiting for your trip in December...

                  • The Peninsula trip to start on 6 or 7 December...

So now it seems finally my long awaited solo peninsula trip will happen as early as this coming week starting either on 6 or 7 December. God willing, the schedule is as follows & I hope I can stick to it...

                    Day-1 Bangalore-Hassan
                    Day-2 Hassan-Kasaragod
                    Day-3 Kasaragod-Calicut
                    Day-4 Rest in Calcut
                    Day-5 Calicut-Alwaye
                    Day-6 Alwaye-Munnar
                    Day-7 Munnar-Trivandrum
                    Day-8 Trivanmdrum-Kanyakumari
                    Day-9 Kanyakumari-Madurai
                    Day-10 Madurai-Pondicherry
                    Day-11 Pondicherry-Chennai
                    Day-12 Rest in Chennai
                    Day-13 Chennai-Bangalore

I should be arriving blr on 3 Dec and may get back my bike keys from customs on the same day. So if all goes to plans, prior to the trip, I would be pleased to meet up with Bangalore xbhpians if it is convenient on this coming sunday 5 December.

As per my above schedule, I would also be pleased to meet up with other xbhpians (city groups) along the route.

Would love to hear from all of you and hope to catch you on the road.

Yes Aargee. That should be the probable date in Chennai if all goes well on the trip.
