I didn't give much thought about rpm/gear-wise speed limit, but I did not go beyond 40 or strain the bike for the first 600 km

    That should be okay..

    > Did you change the engine oil after the first 500kms run?
Yes, first it was changed by service center, but I felt the quality to be poor and immediately changed again with a week
I'm either using shell or bosch, i think bosch is better

So which are you running now on Shell or Bosch?
Tell us the grade and category of the brand you are using...
I think your bike demands 20W40 (not sure though)
& Motul oil has different categories like 300v, 5100, etc an for shell there is shell helix.. which one are you using.. am running on shell helix hx3 20W50 (my mistake), which was actually recomended for cars.. They come with friction busters which can restrict free and smooth usage of clutch....
So do check urz in the Engine oil thread...

    > do you experience hard gear shifting?
I used to get that, but after changing oil myself it seems okay

Engine oil also can be a possibility for the low mileage...

Please see that and get back, why dont you try Honda oil which the company recommends...
Do you find it not good?

Presence of MIND and self CONFIDENCE is the primary aspect You need to be on road, not what brand your riding gears are.
If you lack these two then DONT

I'm using Shell Advanced S, 20w40. Honda oil seemed to go bad quite fast and gear would become hard.

@ravi: did u check the engine oil thread for the ratings, mines hx3 sg/cd
if your are using the same then replace.

Now since this shouldnt be the reason, there is a possibility of a clutch issue..

Better call the customer care and report the issue elaborately, but dont mention that you are using shell oil.
Am not able to find the toll free number, it might be available in your bike manual book and you can see that inscribed somewhere in your authorized showroom... give them a cal and ask them that you need to be specifically updated by the service-incharge of the work going to be carried out and about the problem. and if possible stay with them during the service...

And update us of what it was?

Shell Helix is meant for cars do not use it. Never saw Bosch motorcycle oil.
I tried different oils in my unicorn
shell advance 20w40- worst oil ever(atleast for my unicorn) drained it with in a week.
Veedol super swift 10w-40 - very decent oil
Honda oil 20w40 - Good but short life
            Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T 10w40 synthetic - really excellent(7500kms)
Motul 300v 10w40 synthetic - Much hyped oil but definitely not better than Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T.

About the API ratings SG/SL/SM indicates petrol engines; CD/CF/CH/CI diesel engines. For bikes you need SL/SM + JASO MA/MA2(clutch slippage indications) oils.

Try finding the regional service head in your area.. where are you placed?

Thats a good idea. I went to the headoffice of silicon honda and they said they'll tune it again and test. So, they tuned it and gave back. I'll see whats the improvement.

Ok... Better not delay it anymore, since the care shown by honda customer service has been already been experienced by you, but it is still odd that they didnt pick up any calls, try checking you have got the right number, check with the service manager.

The service center guys asked me to visit their head office. I went there and they tuned the bike once again and advised to test mileage now. I'll see if they were able to fix the mileage issue or not.
