I own a Dazzler and have been facing this problem ever since the first service!

I get an exact mileage of 40 (plus minus 1) and have been getting the same since the bike completed 800km.

I have tried every trick in the book, everything from over inflated tyres, to riding around like a bunny rabbit, to adding acetone in petrol, filling the tank full rather than keeping half empty, you name it!

I check the mileage using reserve to reserve method, which according to me is THE MOST consistent and reliable method which gives real world mileage figures. The only other method which compares is filling up your tank to FULL and then running it to either reserve or dry.

According to me any method which involves bottles strapped to your tank is plain silly if not stupid and any method which uses 1) low amount of fuel (not statistically valid) or 2) runs engine at constant RPM in neutral (not real world) is bound to give wrong mileage figure! If you use any of these kinds of methods then you are simple fooling yourself. Let your money talk rather than these figures.

My bike has finished more than 7000km in a year and I calculated that I paid around Rs4500 in this year extra on petrol which I would have saved if i got 50kmpl.

I am looking for a good private mechanic to check the valve clearance. That is the only thing left for me to do now! If that does not work then I am going to accept this reality and live with (just like all CBZ owners/ FZ owners/ and many Pulsar owners)

@threadstarter If you solve your problem then please contribute on this thread or else in the Dazzler Owners thread. It will be of great help. This problem plagues almost half of the Dazzler owners I have met. Thanks a ton!

      Hi Guys ,

I wish to say you something.

100 ML test can should give almost near to the mileage but it wont give exact.

I was struggling with mileage problem for the past 1 year and sorted out just before.Mine is pulsar 150. It gave me exactly around 55kmpl at the beginning. The service center guy during 3rd service tuned my bike.I started getting 35kmpl.Then I wen to the center and complained they put a 100ml test.In this it returned 4.5kmpl for 100ml which is 45kmpl for 1 litre.

See always this 100ml test can calculation is very easy for the service center guys. Now let us see the calculation in real.

      100ml can = 4.5km (that is 45km for 1litre) > should give 45kmpl in tank.
But you should minus 1km if you are doing this testing.

      100ml can = 4.5km -1km = 3.5km > this 3.5km gives 35kmpl in tank exactly.

And one more important thing is. when you fill 100ml petrol in the test can you will be disconnecting the petrol flow from tank to carburetor and will be connecting this 100ml test to the carburetor. which means 100ml petrol + some amount of petrol in the carburetor. So the mileage will return as follows for you bike.

      100ml = 6.0km [ am I right ]

      100ml = 5.0km will be returned + 1.0km from your carb

As per your 100ml = 5.0km you must be getting around 40 - 45 kmpl on using the petrol tank. Now try this.

Dont trust these Service center. Just learn the tuning.

      1) switch off the petrol flow from tank to carb
      2) drive till your bike gets off
      3) Fill the 100ml petrol in the can and connect to the carb
      4) Drive in the normal conditions. Between 10 - 45kmph speed with various gears and in traffic as well as in empty roads. The driving conditions to be realistic as you drive in normal life.
      5) now check to see the mileage. It should return 6.0 so that you will get atleast 50kmpl or plus.

Now with petrol well past Rs 80, we need to know badly that how was your issue sorted out.

Because one bike gave weird mileage, don't think everyone is getting the same mileage. I am consistently getting FE between 45-52 depending on riding conditions.

Regarding the FE issue in the above bike, there must be some reason, which the service guys not paying much attention and not able to identify it.

I have written numerous mails to Honda Customer Service and they replied to one asking me to visit Service Center. Thats all. I have sent many more mails afterwards to no avail.

I think we all most go together to the Customer Service Center near Indian Express and express our concerns.

Who all are getting poor milage in Dazzler and stay in Bangalore? Lets go together one day to Customer Service Center and bang their heads!

good idea. Btw, i believe all Honda owners should make a team & complaint (being physically present & eating up their minds) about Honda's poor quality, pathetic after sales service & lack of spare parts [sorry mods if its OT, plz dont delete this post]

                  @ free rider,
you ever tried getting your bike tuned outside svc?

Generally, if you complain low FE, Honda service guys generally do an FE test with a separate bottle connecting to carb directly. Did they do it in your case? There could be lot of reasons for low FE.

Did you try any good mechanic outside?

Also, please explain what the service center did exactly when you complained about low FE? Did they do only tuning of the carb?

Also, how many kms your rear disk pads come? And Did you face this FE issue right from the beginning since you bought the bike or are you facing this problem recently. If you are facing the FE issue recently, please try to remember what you did to your bike before this.

                      Hey FREE-RIDER

Well turns out my riding style was too aggressive In my stock bike after one service, the only change that I did was gotten the valve clearances set. That helped a bit and immediately the FE increased to 42kmpl. After that I just went bonkers and totally changed my riding style and after I found my rhythm, I got a consistent FE of 47kmpl.

I rode like that for more than a 1000km and all through I got 47kmpl (never more, a couple of times 45 but never 40 like it used to).

Now I have upgraded to 180cc (1000km complete yesterday ) and actually achieved 46kmpl once but generally get 43kmpl. So quite happy!

Obviously I have become a strong believer in "riding style" theory as far as FE is concerned and that is what you should try too.

                        weird mileage

Service guys seems to be inexperienced. The way the treat our bikes one can make out. I started FE problem after I gave it to service center with the issue of engine making a loud noise on which starts only after long ride. They fixed noise issue but drop FE that is unacceptable and now they cant make out what is the reason for low FE. I'm even facing battery problem. I was given service battery after lot of complaint to Head office. Its almost 20 days over my original battery is with them as to check whether its faulty or not.
Very bad after sale service from Honda.

                          10+
most hampering/helping factor considering FE is riding habit one can see upto 50% of changes (positive or negative) in mileage figures.

Guys just a piece of advice, when doing test rides make sure the fuel tank is disconnected and the engine is turned on and wait till the AFR present in the Carb and Engine burn up, only after that connect the test beaker and ride.

One of my Enfield owning friends got a mileage close to 50Kmpl cause they made the above error.
