    The First Service Phobia!

    Hey friends..
    Its been already 3 weeks for me rocking with my YZF-R15. And the bike is closing to 1000km i.e. time for its first service. And as all of you are aware that giving a bike for servicing is the hardest thing to do espeacially when the bike's new.Theres always this fear of those unfaithful, cunning mechanics with their eyes stiffed on our original parts and accessories.

    I request you guys to help me out with this and advice me as on how can I prevent my bike's parts from being stolen by these mechanics or how can I recognise it. The servivicing time is nearing soon and it is also very important to service the bike timely.

      New bikes are treated well by almost all company authorised service centres. Don't worry much. If you still can't trust me you can leave your bike for service on a working day like early morning of wednesday / thursday (the service centre has least customers on these days), request supervisor to give the bike as fast as possible and tell him that you'll wait in recepetion. Some auth.svc stations will be transparent, like you can buy spares yourself and even see them fit it, some svc stations have glass enclosures, you can read magazine in the waiting room and at the same time watch what they are doing for your bike, just make sure you go to a decent Yam. svc station. If there is express svc. facility request for it and be there till delivery !!

        When I gave my bike for service I noted down my Battery's no., both the tyre's nos. and stuck small stickers in all the parts which are easliy changeable. But still I made sure that I went in the morning, stayed there at the reception which overlooked the area where the bikes were serviced and got it back before noon . Best is to befriend the service engineer so that you are at peace even if you have to give it for one full day. Main thing are the tires and check you odo reading too. If you give it overnight the engineers are bound to take your bike to their homes and in the process test our bike's top speed and all . Anyway, keep your cool, be confident and show them that you really care for your bike and you know it in and out.

          jus relax...they don't have that much time now a days incase of bigger service centers cause of the work load...but to be on a safer side take an early morning appointment n go there when the work shop opens n wait n get it done in front of u...in the mean time chat with the supervisors...next time ur work will be done on a priority basis !!!!

            I'm sorry if I come across as rude, but it is a dumb question.

            The only way you can prevent theft or pilferage is by being around yourself, or having someone you trust around when the bike is being serviced.

            I own an R15 for close to 2 yrs now, and have got the bike serviced 10 times at the SVC so far. All the times I got it serviced in front of my eyes. Some mechanics are more than happy seeing you take personal interest, while others get pissed off.
            But heck, I paid 1+L for the bike, & will not let anyone mess with it.

              100% correct man, i do the same. i am always within 2 mtr.s radius of my bike at the time of servicing. initially the mechanics and service manager and owner of ASS didn't liked it and used to get pissed off and say"sahab reception pe baitho, idhar allowed nahi hai" but i insisted, and now they don't have any problem coz they have understood that i won't budge, either they have to allow me or loose a customer. request them, make silly excuses, do whatever you can but get your bike serviced in front of your eyes.

              otherwise, take a permanent marker and sign on each of the easily changeable parts. and you will have a personalized bike.
