  • Pulsar 135LS Serious ISSUES!

Hey all experts out here... please help me as i am in desperate need of some expert opinions as i dont know much about motorbike's maintainence and fixes.

To start with, I am a college student with 2 yrs riding experience and I got my Pulsar 135about 5 months back and like any other bike enthusisast i was too damn excited and this excitement continued till the worst of my nightmayor came accross me. Out of nowhere suddenly i was in the land of all sorts of trouble and my happy hours ended after just 2 months buying this new bike. My Odometer reads around 10200 kms now. Everything was fine but now there are some serious issues regarding this bike on which i need ur help.

Problem 1: My engine is shutting down randomly in the middle of a ride especially when slowing down from a high speed (the same way when the bike shuts down due to extuinguishing of the fuel)...with more than enough fuel in my tank. After that the bike refuses to start for the next 10 minutes. To continue riding i hav to switch my fuel knob to RESERVE for about 4-5 kms and then agin switch back to MAIN
This is something very serious as i hav already escaped death once just because of this issue. So need your help on fixing this problem big time.

Problem 2: tremendous fluctuation in mileage. I am a normal city rider and my average speed varies between 50 kmph to 75 kmph.
But the mileage is sometimes quite all right as i am getting around 43-45 kmpl. But sometimes out of nowhere its pulling down to 21-22 kmpl. (Lesser than a p220 i guess)

Problem 3: Too much of false gear shifts. the bike automatically shifts to NEUTRAL while on 2nd or 1st gear. and it is really a pain when this happens while taaking a U-turn with a pillion

Problem 4: Very low pick up and very low power delivery at random times. On single even Scooty Pep is leaving me behind and i cannot get more than 88-90 kmph as my top speed no matter how hard i rev the bike (Note: i have already topped 118Kmph on this bike earlier)

Problem 5: When leaving both the hands at fair speed the bike is seeming to drift towards the right side.

P.S: All services done on time with 3 times oil change. I am using Bajaj 20w50 oil now as given by the service centre. my last job included Tank overall, carbeurator overall, Chain overall, Oil change, filter change, weheel allignment set, checking up of fuel line, spark plug, tank drain, Gear shaft setting, clutch plate setting.
ALL from authorised Baja Service Centre.
Still no solutions to any of the problems mentioned. Please Help!

Problem 1 - Issue with air hole in the cap of fuel lid. Get it thoroughly checked & that is the damn problem.

Problem 2 - Err...can't comment much unless we know your clutch usage & riding pattern

Problem 3 - Looks like clutch issue

Problem 4 - Scooty pep??? Looks like you're exaggerating, anyway, that also seems to be like clutch issue

Problem 5 - Issue either with bent fork or bent alloy wheel or bad tire.

PS - None of these issues are SERIOUS. All of them can be fixed.

for problem 1 , like argee suggested i suspect the air hole to be clogged.
Next time when it happens take your ears near the tank lid & open it, if u hear a vaccum cup like sound when u open the tank lid...you found the issue.

Thanks a ton for your suggestion. Problem number 3 and 5 fixed with your suggestions.

Prob 1 still persistent. The mechanic also suspected the air hole 4 clog, he cleaned it.
But still i came acrros the same problem just sometime back while riding back!

And aboyt the Scooty Pep matter, trust me, im not exaggerating at all. If its not true, then why will I make a fool of myself by commenting like that!

neways, I really appreciate your help!

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, but it did not work out as I mentioned in my previous reply!.

Anirban - There should be a cork between the fuel lid & the hole & this is found underneath the fuel lid on the tank. Dismantle the fuel lid completely & punch a hold in the cork & that WILL help for sure.

Since you will/have fixed the clutch issue, the low pickup should be taken care automatically. Pls post here otherwise.

Pls avoid SMS language which is prohibited in the forum, unless you want someone to report the posts & get deleted.

your welcome..even i had the 1st problem for long and couldnt really figure out what the problem was back then..

i felt it was due to the design of the fuel tank initially...whenever i was on a straight(national highway) for quite a long time and was just above reserve, it happened...i assumed the petrol on the right side of the tank didnt flow onto the left side because whenever i stopped and tilted the bike or for that matter even swirled the bike while riding itself for the petrol to splash and come onto the other side, i never had to put it on reserve...as you did..

the svc guys always told me there wasnt a problem...but during my 2nd service i put them to work and asked them to rectify the problem whatever it was..when i got back the bike that problem went away...when asked about it they just told me that they changed the fuel guage...unbelievable but its working fine for me...

more than 5months now and i have never faced that problem again...well you can still keep your tank full it may help..

1more thing to add...now especially in summer even when your tank is full and you face this..do not fret...due to the direct sun fuel in the lines and carb evaporates naturally and fuel doesnt flow due to cranking pressure....solution is simple...just open the lid and start the bike...it will start...
