I know lot of people think of it as a city bike and would rather prefer Pulsar 220 or a ZMR (which I agree). But if anybody ridden an FZ16 for long distance could you please share your experience.

    thanks
No harm in using FZ as tourer at all....only thing is cruise speed would be at around 60-70kmph (comfortable, non stressing RPM for engine)
Preferaly a touring bike should ...
    1. Have relaxed cruise speed (low engine RPM at higher speed), that is the comfortable mile munching ability.
    2. Relaxed seating position
    3. Fairly reliable for long journeys.
4.Remember, not to travel during nights, nights are for breaks not for touring. On highways trucks are kings esp. during nights, and best a biker should do is take break !!

as everubody has said theres no harm in using the fz as a tourer. But u cud rather go for the fazer as it comes wit hooks under the seat to carry ur baggage which helps in touring.....
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride!' -Hunter S. Thompson

On my Victor GLX with Tata Ace reflectors and 60/55 philips extreme power bulb and a spare Osram Nightbreaker bulb its real pleasure to ride on highways at night
I like to tour during night time.
I have done 85000 kms in 6 years with too many long trips from 200 kms to 1500 kms and many times I have travelled like a nocturnal creature on highways, ghats, forests in fog,in heavy rain etc etc in many extreme conditions.
        Amazing illumination I get
I can see clearly upto 500 meters to 750 meters in upper beam and around 200 meters distance in lower beam
I have been able to recognize black colored snakes on tar roads at night time
from a much farther distance whereas with my friend's unicorn,I was not able to notice the divider 10-15 meters in front of me(Amazingly these unicorns, shines activas,CD delux have irritating headlights but I am still not able to understand that when the rider is not able to view the road, where does this much light go?I am not able to solve this mystery).I almost crashed with divider.Only the disc brakes saved me.
Regarding GLX, No truck driver messes with me in front of that beam(Maybe the truck driver might be thinking that some 4 wheeler with only one headlight might be coming towards him hence he sticks to his lane only and when he comes nearer,he might be thinking Oh its a 2 wheeler,I thought it is .......) and just giving a upper-dipper thrash, almost all truck, bus and car drivers lower down their beams(Only the people driving two wheelers in city are unable to understand the meaning of upper-dipper thrash.Truck drivers are far better than these so called sophisticated and educated people in terms of headlight beam usage)

Hence if your headlight is strong,no truck driver will think himself as king of road and will drive in his own lane.
One example I would like to give
I was touring between Mahabaleshwar to Pune during night completely lonely road and I was riding bike with my friend as pillon.
On Satara highway NH-4,I overtook a truck.Immidiately, the truck driver increased speed and overtook me again came ahead of me in my lane and slowed down.I again overtook him.
This same story repeated till many kms
Finally when the truck driver was ahead of me,I used upper beam and delibrately stayed behind that truck with beam falling on his mirror
The truck driver gave up,he gave me a signal to go ahead and after that the truck driver never overtook me.

yup you can do touring on fz provided you are not seeking speeds of 110 +..
it has one of the best rider seating position hence, won't give you any back problems.. however, i would recommend getting more cushioning on the stock seat to comfort your backside many people have done saddlesore 1600kms+ on their fz's /fazers without any problems. fz engine can take quite a lot of abuse provided the regular maintainence is taken care of...

if you still want more power and FE, you can opt for power up kits from joel (:.Welcome To Race Concepts.:)...

          cheers

Now this is very immature on your part, You deliberately risked the lives here. The reflection from the RVM could easily blind a person for few seconds and just a fraction of second is enough to cause an accident.

If something of this sort happens in future with anyone, Just let go the vehicle in question. At the end of the day, Life is more precious then getting the false satisfaction of being ahead from others on road.

              I would suggest two mods..

              - The front sprocket mod for better cruising speeds at relaxed engine rpm ( though your acceleration will suffer, but you will make up in mileage and a relaxed engine ).

              - Changing the rear tyre to a 120 profile. That will reduce drag, and improve top end as well.

My offerings to the gods of speed -

              - KTM Duke 200
              - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

                Agreed
But The truck driver was thinking that its a bike and hence he can do anything was unacceptable to me
He was moving very slow below speed of 40 and when I was overtook him and went further,he used to increase his speed to around 60,overtake me and come again in front of me in my lane and slow down to 40.
                This was happening many times
Well the road was plain with no slopes hence I cant accept the reason of his slowing down after overtaking. All he was doing delibrately
I was really tired of this nuiscance and decided to end it
So though it looks immature but I had no other option other than to teach him a lesson in this way.

The limiter kicks in @11,500 rpm just within a second after the first shift..And, that's where the fun begins !! ;)

I own a fz16 2011, the main problem am facing is the mileage only. Its handling, comfort are great. It can handle speeds 80-110 without any vibrations. It is a good tourer. You can go for it.

                      Hi trustvishwas .

I will also be borrowing my friend's FZ for Delhi - Ladakh & nearby regions - Delhi tour in June.

Can you please let me know which tyre did you change to before going for your Ladakh tour?

It was Eurogrip tyre. If interested, you can go through my Leh travelogue. Link in my signature.

Re: FZ 16 as a tourer

Go for Fazer. Faring helps in better stability and a better top end compare to fz. Also there are some minor changes like lower seat height for bettre touring experience.

Highway milage 40-45 kmpl. Stock tyre is prone to puncture but gives good grip on tar...lesser on gravel. Try putting tyre jel and no more puncture issues.

Above all handling and acceleration control is so good that beats any other issues like top end etc and becomes best tourer in 150 segment. Also its not behind in top speed to any 150 cc bikes except excluding r15 nd 150r. See you during leh trip

                            Welcome to xbhp
If you are going to do speed of above 100 km which I don't recommend, you should look bigger engine bikes. If you are going to go below that FZ is fine.
What I like about FZ is its mono suspension. It's like a dream when you drive.

I honestly don't remember. Let me go through the travelogue and if I can find it, will post it.

The tyre was so good, that after returning, the FZ owner kept using it, then after 2 years, another xbhp friend bought it from him for his Leh ride and still going strong without any sign of wear and tear.
