  • Engine oil change or Top up?

    Friends,

I own the new HH HUNK (with digi console and LED tails). I have got a query on the engine oil change pattern followed at HH ASC.

At oil change the ASC people use HH oil + additives (for which they charge around Rs. 350)

    1st service - Oil change
2nd service - oil top up
    3rd service - oil change
4th service - oil top up
    .
    .
    .
    .
So oil change and top up alternates every 2-2.5k kms.

Even I saw a HH signboard in the HH ASC which suggests the same pattern.

Many people in xbhp do not recommend oil top up for HH.

Is it good to adhere to HH procedures or change oil every 2-2.5k kms?

    Regards,
    Navidh

At first,Never use Additives,If you use petrol additives,it will clogg the petrol lines and If you meant Engine Oil additives like NULON,its not recommended to use in engine as it contains TEFLON which will cause clutch slips and many other problems. So stay away from additives.

So when coming to Engine oil,HH 10W30 oil will degrade faster and will get bad at about 600-800kms,So IMO if you are using HH 10W30 oil, change oil every 1000kms and never topup oil,its of no use,Always insist for a full oil change instead of an oil top up.Also by using good JASO MA2 Spec'd oil like Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40,you can use it up to 2000kms and also your bike's engine will be cooler, smoother, smooth gear shifts and less vibrations.

Anyone can correct me if i am wrong.

IMO use the recommended grade and oil top up is not at all recommended. AFAIK max companies change the engine oil at regualar services. so its better for u to insist on oil change at each service.
Also change the oil filter with each oil change as it gets clogged soon..

And HH oil is nt tht good if want smooth operation of the engine use go for good oil brands such as motul, shell , gulf etc.

use mineral oils for the first 3k kms and then u can shift for the semi synthetic oils.

Use of additives is not a good option as Aneesh mentioned

        hope this helps u.!

For runin period,HH oil is the best.

Use only minerals upto 6000kms atleast. Then shift to SS or FS oils.

No problems,HH 10W30 oil is very thin and can settle the engine faster.

Bro Dont u think tht FS oils are enough for hunk..

I havnt used any SS or FS oils yet and i am not going to use it,as i had read some oil leaks in ZMA with ss or FS oils,So i cant comment on this.

                I'll sum up your ideas

                1) Never use additives recommended at the ASC
                2) Never top up but go for oil change for every 2k/2.5k kms

                Right????

                  Yes,avoid those.

If using HH oil better change every 1500kms and feel the difference. You are right.

Actually all 10W30 oils will be more or less same in performance. So better to get a good higher grade JASO MA2 spec'd oil like 20W40,What is the climate of your place?

Then try to source 20W40 oils from gulf or motul.Your engine will be lot smoother, cooler and you will surely enjoy it.
As it is a thick oil,you may feel hiccups during cold starts, and it will go once you ride a few kms ,say 1 km etc, after that it will be normal.

Regarding the cold start thing.... My bike doesnt have the kicker... Even with the HH oil I have to use choke most of the times to start the bike every morning....

Switching to 20w40 will it make the cold start more worse????

I am depending on the self start.. So if the bike doesnt comes to life with 2 - 3 punches at the self start button, I would apply the choke... I feel the battery should not be given any damage... Is it the right way????

Using choke is not a problem,We use choke to start bikes when the engine is cold. Never use choke more than 5 secs,it will create carbon deposits on the top of piston.

Try starting with choke on tomorrow morning(first press) and see how it works.
