@OP, just clarifying, when you said you do 70-30 did you mean 70% front or 70% rear? :/

              No no guys..
              I meant 70% front & 30% rear.
Doing 70% rear will cause rear wheel lock.

                +1 ^^
Oh yeah, plz note 70% front also doesn't mean you suddenly press front brakes, in that case front will lock and you will fall.
Just apply rear brake, within 1 second apply front and start to squeez front little more hard. IF YOU FEEL BRAKES ARE GONNA JAM, RELEASE THE LEVER AND AGAIN START APPLYING SLOWLY. That's all!

The front brake is what will stop your bike.Rear is only secondary.Use your front more often and you will find the diff.

You guys have no idea how wrong i was in my braking!! i always thought rear brakes as the primary ones and the front ones as the secondary! keeping this in mind i used apply brakes 70(rear)-30(front) and at times i never used to use the discs thinking rear brakes were enough!!
Now i know how it is done!
Will let you guys know how my brakes are doing from now on!
going for a big ride next week! Bangalore-Valparai-Bangalore!!
This should tell me a lot of things about my brakes and bike!

The main reason why we Indian still tend to believe that rear brakes are the primary ones is because in the bikes with front and rear drum brakes, rear were more effective.
It is in the last few years that most of Indian bikes have been fitted with Front discs.
Even in bikes with front and rear disc, if u observe, front disc is much more effective than the rear disc because of its size.
And as had been mentioned before, rear discs or drums( when front is disc) are mainly for support rather than actual braking.
In my case i never bothered about reading about braking earlier and learnt the hard way( lucky though) as because of wrong braking, the bike has skidded quite a few times but without any accident.
Btw if u press your rear brake hard( even at 20 kmph ), you will notice that the rear locks.

yes he is right that we indian think the rear breaks are primary once and front breaks are just to support but we should understand that the indian bikes are going through an evolution and so as there brakes, to understand the best way of breaking understand you bike, take it for a ride and put all of your senses on the breaks and clutch

                          Hey Guys!!
just back from my bike ride to valparai, actually went till athirapally falls in kerala!! about 1200 km in 4 days!

and to say the least about my brakes i abused them through most of the ride! mainly because i was riding through ghat sections and i had to break really really hard during downhill! and as you guys suggested i used the front ones as primary and back ones as secondary!!!

and now that i am back home after all the riding, the brakes are still doing ok!! earlier this much distance and braking would have destroyed my brakes!! HAD to go for the new ones!!!

Thanks a lot everyone, whoever posted here gave your suggestions!! it did solve my problem

In the ghat section the FZ's handling was unmatched!!! it does cornering like Butter, with great speed too!!! it was fun riding FZ in the roads of Ooty and valparai!!! the more i ride my Fz the more i like it
