      1. Well if you take two insurance from two different companies, then you will be paying twice the premium than you actually need to But incase you crash or smash your bike and you try getting money from both the insurance companies, then well bro the cops are gonna come get you for fraud Claiming insurance for the same cause from two different sources is illegal.
      2. I didn't quite get your second question. Your RC and driving licence will show that its not a stolen vehicle. Provided the bike is registered in your name. If its not registered in your name, well then God help you, because the cops sure as hell will try extracting the maximum.

Haha. The insurance companies will politely let them know Insurance companies have a database, in which data is shared. Maybe you might get lucky and then maybe not!

Its all about money bro. When they have to take money, ie premiums, they close their eyes. But when they have to pay out, they suddenly become ever so vigilant

I didn't want to do all this much typing. But here goes -

Hypothetical situation, you have got your bike insured at say 60000/-, from two separate companies. Your bike gets stolen. You lodge an FIR with the cops. Make that two FIRs from two different police stations. You then proceed to submit the FIRs to the insurance companies, who do not pay out immediately, but after a couple of months. In the meantime they will go looking for every reason why they should not have to pay you. If one insurer comes to know about the other insurer. They will split the bill 30000/- each and pay you the total that you were gonna get in anycase. But if by some quirk of fate they both pay you 60000/- and then come to know about the other insurer. Then they will try recovering 30 grand each from you. And if you refuse to pay, well the clink is always calling And if you do manage to get the money from both the insurers without them coming to know. Well then mate, you are one lucky dude

Monk - Talk reality; no hypothetical; we were only discussing about vehicle transfer & not theft; by the way the discussion is going, I don't want to feel guilt of talking nonsense & drift away to help the thread starter. I'm out of this unnecessary Offtopic!!!

sorry bro, but ACT says you need an NOC, either get it issued from UP or pay-up extra 'ghoos' to our honest govt. employees..

re registering the bike in Mumbai

                      Hi Bikers,

I want to know, is re registering is required for the new registered vehicles? I heard that it is not required for the new registered vehicles.

I want to use my Kerala registered bike in Mumbai for more than 2yrs. I don't have NOC as of now. If i am paying the road tax in Mumbai, is it OK?

                      Kindly help me in this.

                      -sRee

If the bike is in ur name, just get the NOC from the original RTO and ride your bike anywhere, as long as u wish. Stopping a vehicle for having other state number is just to fill their own pockets.- As told by a traffic police of a high rank, when I enquired.

To my knowledge, whether it is a crash/stolen, one will have to file FIR at Police Station falls under jurisdiction for Insruance claim. Many know filing FIR is no easy with Police as they will be accounted for each filing. The insruance company then ask for FIR and submit the Insurance Policy for claim. The copy of the accident report goes to the RTO for verification for claiming insurance. They check for the address, name of the vehicle owner etc in their database. This verification is done on all the vehicles to evade any kind of fraud. i.e if the second owner has not transferred the ownership and that would even more complicate the situation and thus becomes crime and void any claims. In this case, if RTO comes across another claim for the same registration number would expose the situation in broad day light. I'm not sure how other state go by claim process so would advise them to check their local RTO.

Its okay with everything. Its not illegal or something like that to ride with other state's number. Afterall, its Indian registered. Many people don't even know the NOC thing, and still drive/ride their vehicles in other states. NOC is primarily required if u want to sell the vehicle in other state or re-register in other state. It also serves a purpose that the vehicle is not stolen from other state by multi-state car lifters to be sold in another state. The NOC just states that the concerned vehicle was not involved in any illegal activities in the home state and no case is lodged for that vehicle and you are the owner.

I too need to take my Karnataka registered P220 to Assam after 5 months, so enquired everything I required!

Let me repeat it once again Motor Vehicles Act says that all vehicles are to be registered in the new state if the period of stay exceeds 1 year. Now, in most cases, its never implemented, you can use your bike with a NOC, DL, insurance, PUC & RC book in the new state. The police should not stop you or fine you as such, they'll do so only if they wanna earn some money as bribe.
No need to re-register, just use it with above mentioned documents & try to avoid getting too much attention of the police.
