I don't really know about the cops in W.B but here in BLR they really keep a track and incase your stopped over for this issue after a year and they know you have been using the bike for over a year without re-redg. you inviting some trouble.

You can get the insurance done with the previous company or any new company using the NOC you have got, but it will be on the old address i.e the address mentioned on the RC or NOC of the bike.

The copy of the accident report goes to the RTO for verification for claiming insurance. They check for the address, name of the vehicle owner etc in their database. This verification is done on all the vehicles to evade any kind of fraud. i.e if the second owner has not transferred the ownership and that would even more complicate the situation and thus becomes crime and void any claims. In this case, if RTO comes across another claim for the same registration number would expose the situation in broad day light. I'm not sure how other state go by claim process so would advise them to check their local RTO.
+1 to what Sri has to say here.

        hi guys,
I live in Pune so if i had to buy a bike from Ahmednagar what documentation would have to be done??
would i need only the transfer of ownership papers or would i need anything else too??

Where is Ahmednagar? Sorry for my ignorance here. If you could post if it is in same state or else would help. Also, if it is a new bike or used one.

^ If it is same state. You have lesser problem.

              1. Get signature on Tranfer Form from Seller
              2. Get Purchase Receipt from the seller (its for your own safety)
              3. Check if the insurance is upto date if yes then get signature on Insurance Transfer form from Seller. If not, make it upto date.
              3. Do a Pollution test if it is required (2 stroke).
              4. Submit the Transfer form along with Original RC book and your address proofs at the RTO in your locality.
              5. After name change on RC book take it to Insurance Co., for name tranfer on the policy.

This is from my practical experience. Others may add if I had missed any.

Oh, so all in all its just the general process of transferring bike from owners name to my name, that is good
