  • Yamaha R15 (V 1.0) Front Brake Pad Specifications

    Hello Dear Members,

I own a Sept 2008 Yamaha R15 (V 1.0), I must say I am more than happy with the service provided by one of the ASS namely Monarch Automobiles in Pune.

Lately, the bug of self servicing is keeping on visiting my mind frequently

Hence I have decided to start off with the change of front brake pads. I am very well versed with the procedure.

I would like to know the specifications/model of front brake pads of R15 so that I can source them from a local shop to see if cost reduction is possible ot not. (ASS people don't know specifications or not ready to give out info on the same due to confidentiality clause).

    Help Appreciated,
    R15 User from PUNE

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

As above for the part no. are you are looking for after market brake pads or genuine pads?

As you mentioned you have a great ASS in Pune, you can pick them up from them, I changed mine a couple of hours ago, got them from a not so great ASS, Rs430 bucks (MRP) for the front pads, fitting I done myself, simple 20 minute job, less if you don't stop for breaks or any local mechanic will do for around 30 bucks.

More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

          Hi Abhimanyu,

Thanks a lot for your inputs. However I was just checking out the part nos on this website (Yamaha Parts Price List - 2010: YZF R15 Parts Catalogue) the other day and found that Front Pads Part No marked as 5YP-F5939-00.

          Will update soon.

^^^ yes, you are right. Thats the reason I have said 'as noted on the box'. The pads are being imported from Thailand.

              Hi Stefanm,

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. What I am trying to do here is I am trying to find the aftermarket pads because my experience with genuine pads hasn't been that great so far. Want to try out some aftermarket pads now. Any idea on these aftermarket pads?..Brand/Price/Model No etc...

              Best Regards,

Wow! Did you get a chance to see the price or contents of this box? Any chance it came with Calipers and Pads as a combined Set?

There is no price on the box. I have a set of the brake pads in stock (I normally keep some spares). When I bought this set, Yamaha was importing them from Thailand and was putting a new spares code label over the original label (don't know the current situation). It comes only as brake pad set and not with the calipers.

I have been looking for a set of SBS or EBC alternates for ages. Will post the details if I find it.

This would be of great help. Looked for better brake pads in South East Asian markets but couldn't get any info

Racing Boy makes a compatible set. Don't know the quality though.

                        Hi Folks,

Thanks a lot for your inputs.

I am sticking to the genuine pads sourced from authorised dealer for the time being. But, We all have to find a good alternative after market pads for Yamaha R15.

                        Thanks,

The disk pad opening and fitting is a easy job but make sure when you remove the disk off the brake lever should be untouched as if pulled the air will have bad issues.
