  • R15 (v1) : Yellow indicator on hud!

    Hi bikers,
I noticed a yellow indicator (second from right) blinking on my bike about a few days ago, the manual said it is due to wrong coolant levels. I got the coolant levels checked, which were fine. The next cluprit seemed to be a weak battery, so I got it recharged since it didn't work, I got the battery replaced. Ever since things were fine, until yesterday, the yellow indicator came up again but it is intermittent, it goes away once I start driving. I took the bike to Yamaha factory shop (Pune), but the guys out there don't seem to be of much help. Can someone please help me know the exact cause for the blinking indicator and ways to fix the same?...

Though I'm not a R15 owner, but are you sure the sensors are not faulty?

Its just a self destruct flashlight. The bike will blow up in a few days.
Have you bothered to check the ownership thread?

The number of flashes (Slow and fast) represent an error code. Its got little to do with coolant levels and more with self test startup... Do search for the relevant post!

@satyenpoojary && Juris : Yes sire, it did pretty much look like a self destruction thing ...well yes I did checkout the ownership thread prior to posting this topic, and it is from where I got to know about the coolant level/temperature thing......

@Abhijeet Bhattacharjee: Well yes, on another conversation with the service station guys, it appears that the coolant temperature sensor may have gone kaput!

Though the indicator has stopped flashing now, but I'll take the bike to Monarch Yamaha, tomorrow, for another round of diagnostics. Whatever it is, just hoping that I won't be required to get the ECU replaced. Thanks everyone for your response, will post an update at the earliest...

Whom did you talk to in YFS?? You can get in touch with Nitin, he can definately help you out. He is the Service head.

Coolant issue might not be there as the coolant warning illumination is besides the one you pointing.

Every time I take my bike for servicing, Nitin, is the person I seek for help. He was the one who pointed out that the indicator came up due to a weak/faulty battery, on having the battery replaced, the problem persisted. And, the next time I had a word with Nitin about the issue, he didn't pay much heed to my query, stating it to be some minor issue, so I decided to give it a shot at Monarch.

Sorry about the delay in updates, got busy at work, so finally got my bike serviced (on Friday, thinking that some extra attention might be given due to a weekday) at YFS (Pune), explained the problem in depth to Nitin. He said that the problem persisted due to some memory error after the replacement of battery (didn't sound convincing)!!!...So I started rolling the bike, everything was good, but all of a sudden I have the engine warning lamp continuously on for almost like 5-8 seconds and then it went off. The next weird thing that happened was, on the next day in the evening upon making an attempt to start the bike, the battery was almost dead but the bike somehow started. Can someone please help me out with problem?...or at least recommend a good place to get the bike checked up!

Hello rohit it seems that your ECU might be having some problem as the engine warning lights when ECU is not working properly. For more details you can visit your nearby Yamaha service center and go through the service manual page 8-31.

The yellow indicator will blink for any small issues.. even if you drop the bike., you will see it blink.. nothing serious but could be an electrical issue.. get it checked...

Hi everyone, the issue has finally been resolved. The underlying cause happened to be two shorted (of total twelve) cells of Stator Assembly. The stator assembly costs Rs 2065. The technical head at YFS, Nitin, told me that it is quite a rare case and there is no particular reason for the shorted cells! . What's worse is that the Yamaha diagnostics tool did not show any problems. Hoping that the information helps someone.
