  • CBZ heart transplant..

    Hi all,

Its been a while since I got something really done on my bike (classic CBZ).
Its was my longterm desire to upgrade my bike's engine to tap the potential it has but then didn't find right time & opportunities to do what I wanted. I was going through a thread where a fellow member wanted to swap CBZ engine with ZMA's. I found that apt & right choice without any hassles of engine re-work.
To my luck I got hold of a 2009 model ZMA which has clocked 50k till date.
I guess this will be the right time to act on my desires. Engine swap.
Yes, ZMA engine on CBZ. I learnt that the mount points are the same as its the same chassis.
Now, I need yourhelp to have this done cleanly.
If I were to swap this mill what all do I need?
What about chain, sprockets?? Will the stock CBZ's handle the torque or the heavier ZMA's is needed?
What about the swing arm? CBZ has a smaller one than ZMA.
What about front suspension? Is it fine to go with CBZ's or does that differ?
Muffler? Can the stock CBZ muffler handle the flow & provide enough back pressure or this has to be changed?

Also I understand this is illegal as the engine crank serial differs, what should be done to fix that?

I need your help to get this done.

Argee, Satyen & other geeks shed some light on this.

    Thanks.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      1. you need to make new engine mounts .. a good mechanic will easily do it .

      2. Chain sprockets of CBZ are ok , however the gearing ratios will change so for that you need new sprockets .

      3. No need to change original swingarm , but change swingarm bushes as it wears out with useage .

      4. Front suspension rods are of same thickness of zma so again no need to change .

      5. For muffler , 1st mount the engine and then decide what is to be done , IMO just remove the catcon from the stock silencer and let it fly .

Thanks chirag. I finally got it done. Mounts are the same. Since I didn't use the zma swing arm, the zma muffler was a tight fit. Also the tachometer won't work so had to go for a zma meter console. CBZ sprockets were a direct fit. Zma sprockets will need a cut in the chain link. Suspension and front alloy changed to zma to accommodate a bigger zma rotor.
