ngk plugs are not bad but they are not recommended by your bike manufacturer. so you have to find the correct replacement of you stock plug. correct size, length, heat rating etc... thats why we asked you to put stock ones.

regarding compression test. most service centers dont have the equipment as.they think it is useless to invest momey in a useless equipment. those who do keep dont have the knowledge and expertise to use it. my service center owner was very reluctant to do the test- and gave me n number of excuses not to use it- when i asked him once. and when he did took out that equipment he didn't gave it to mechanic, instead treid to do the test himself and not allowing anybody to touch it, as if its a million dollar equipment.
and even if you do manage to do compression test it is not very helpful all the times. bcoz.there are different types of equipments... one is which can be screwed onto the threads of spark plug hole but is rarely available, other has to be held at the mouth of hole of spark plug by hand pressure and has a rubber gasket this one is widely available. now you can imagine the accuracy of results depends on how tight u hold.it against the hole. it never gives a constant reading.

what u need is a good mechanic.

Back after a long leave. Before leaving, I had followed your advice and had sourced around for a good mechanic and had left my bike in his hands.
He did some tweaks and had asked me to observe for a day or two.

Initially (just after tweaking), the pickup was just mind-blowing and engine felt a lot more smoother than before. After using for two days, here are my observations:

        1. I pushed it to maximum performance for testing. Recorded a max of only 80kph at 7000 RPM and after pushing it that far, the smoothness of the engine was lost again!
        2. Mileage has certainly improved - I got a figure of 48-50kpl R-R in city, with a pillion, that too, twice. Carb settings are untouched, so there's no possibility that he's set it to a leaner AFR for improving mileage.

Will be going back to him to post my observations and lets see what best he can do :fingers crossed:

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Anyone of you have solved the problem? mine also making issue at top end. it reached 7000 rpm smoothly and it could not go beyond. When i increase the throttle, misfiring occuring .. feeling like riding condition when fuel main to reserve changing condition.

            ???????? what to do guys.....

I figured out that its due to air filter. Just change your air filter and the bike will run fine.

I had the same problem with my Yamaha SZ-R. It has been solved by changing the air filter. And clean the carburetor also if required.

Re: Yamaha Gladiator RS 2008 not performing on top end

I did not know there has been so much controversies over my YouTube video

The guy who made that air filter washing video is ME. (Please don't kill me for that )

I totally know no manufacturer recommends the practice (except JCB & some heavy machinery), hence I had my Disclaimer in that video.

I have run my Gladiator (SS 125) over 73,000 kms now with the stock engine block & stock chain set( not kidding), and still wash (wash + wind blast + dry) my air filter at every 2000 kms & replace them at every 10,000 kms. Things are working just fine and i still hit 100+ when ever I wish and try to.

I have replaced spark plug & air filter at every 10,000 kms intervals right from the beginning.

Oil is something that I have experimented with a lot and learnt lessons the hard way (without seizing the engine though )

                  > Castrol SS - Clutch slippage & gets rough by 1500 kms
                  > Shell AX7 - Evaporates like crazy ( hence the engine ran without oil (extremely low oil level) as I didn't check the oil level during a long trip. Resulted in engine noise. The engine used to be butter smooth and hell silent before that trip.)

Best bet - Yamalube mineral & SS ( Only the black bottle with red cap ones). Neither does the oil level drop nor does the engine feel "too" smooth. It behaves natural like how a Gladiator engine is supposed to behave.

Still happy with my decision of buying and maintaining my Gladiator (my way). Its still a charm to ride.
