  • Full set of riding gear for SBK! Suggestions please...

    Hi folks,

So I have just booked the purchase of an SBK (will create an thread when I have the baby in my hand.) I am looking to purchase a full set of riding gear for me and my wife...

I have been looking at Performance Racing Store but I need some help from you guys in finalizing...

Given that I have just put down so much on the SBK, I would like to go for gear which will serve the purpose (more priority on safety) but not too expensive...

    Any guidance?

    Regards,

Don't know what SBK you've booked, best bet would be...
      Dainese - Home page
      ARAI HELMET LTD
      SHOEI North America
      Alpinestars (GENUINE ONLY)

      The ultimate, look no further.

Haha, well its firey and red... I will create the appropriate thread once I have the baby in my hands

Thanks for the links. Since I need to purchase 2 sets (one for me and one for my better half), I cannot go extravagant with the prices. I would like to wrap up both sets within 30-40k if possible.

I have been looking out with the exact same criteria, the only difference being that I have not thought about the bike at all yet....
I would suggest.... buy a pair of Sprax or KBC at ~9K each.... go for 2 DSGs jackets...~5K each.... a pair of A* mesh gloves ~ 4K each.... boots in my opinion will be overkill and if one wishes to, then a pair of Fox knee guards would be 1.5K each... Total comes to 40K whereabouts.... changing to LS2 or some other brand at 4-5K price level would knock off close to 10K on the overall expense... so one can work around a little...

I have compared prices in the US and for the above gear of approx similar quality there is not much of a difference unless one meticulously ticks only the closeouts gear in the US.

Hmmm...10 Lakhs for a SBK, but not even 10% for safety

Atleast I'm glad you're buying TWO 'cause most jokers don't even realize the importance of these. Good luck on your hunt for riding gears between 30-40K.

Have you booked a Ducati? 795 or 848? These are powerful machines and can cause serious damage if not handled properly. I would suggest you to increase your budget, and go for good quality stuff, like Alpinestars, Joe Rocket, etc. If you choose wisely, you don't have to spend a bomb on the gear. Think what will happen if you have a crash @150kmph, good protective riding gear can be the difference between life and death.
Ok, enough gyan, now tell us which bike have you booked.

Thanks for drilling some sense into me guys. I was just hoping 30-40k would be adequate for getting good quality gear.

What I am not too sure is the actual (not perceived) difference between a helmet which costs Rs 10k, 20k and 40k. Surely we are in the region of diminishing returns now?

I don't mind spending 40k for a helmet as long as it gives me something beyond the 20k helmet. And since I have to buy a pair of everything, I am a little conscious of the cost.

But again, like I said, no compromises.

                I bought the Fireblade

Congrats for the CBR!!!! Err, congrats for the FireBlade! Yeah!!!

I guess you'd have to spend around 1 L for the gear. But, its worth it.
You may visit Performance Racing Store or PlanetDSG for the items.
People have already suggested about them.

My recommendations (only genuine products please)
[P.S - All prices are approx values based on memory. A friend bought an R1 some 7 months back. Sharing what I remember]

IMHO, nothing offers a superb protection (not even knee guards) than riding pants.

                        No RG, not at all!

In fact, I've been trying to gift myself a Joe Rocket but unable to because of some Vitamin M deficiency every now and then.
Its just that I've seen most SBK riders here in Bangalore opting out of riding pants and wearing knee guards instead.

Nothing better than full riding gear.

IMO, these are the best and really VFM

                          Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Aren't the ARAI helmets around 40-55k? I really liked the RX-7, but that itself is coming to 55k. Any particular models you would recommend (black) which will give a good balance of safety and protection.

Since I have made a huge down payment for the bike itself, I am feeling the lack of Vitamin M

Hence, do you think I could defer the purchase of a jacket and make do with helmet + glove + knee guard? I am slight apprehensive about buying a full suit because it would be highly difficult to ride in full gear everywhere (even for casual rides.)

I definitely want to get this and use for serious rides. But they don't make sense for urban city driving... ? Would rather stick to jeans + knee guards?
