Problem In Apache RTR 180, looses power at 9k rpm
Hi Guyz I Own a Apache RTR 180 , Few Months back i had change my air filter & installed a power filter (K&N) RC 1060 Filter , I Clean my filter every month, before it was running awesome and gave me great output . Pickup is still great but it misses & start turning off when it reaches to 9 RPM i don't know what happened to it before this problem was not coming but before a month i had took it for service and after few days later i tried to take it to high rpm but it dint go more then 9 it started missing like its suffocating ..... is there a problem in the carb. tuning ?? I think the service center guy would have done something or can someone please guide me whats the problem is? and to solve it ?
Thanks.Tags: None

Did you get your main jet replaced when you installed the air filter? Does it overheat also?
Try getting a bigger main jet installed in your carburettor. You might have to get one drilled yourself as RTR already comes with a 125 jet.
Also, if you get a K&N installed, get a temporary air box made and installed too, to avoid the dust and mud overstressing the K&N. If you don't, then the bike might get spoilt and piston may be required to be replaced.
I also had a K&N with suitable main jet, but replaced when I couldn't make the airbox myself.---

Bro how much would the bigger main jet cost me ? as i did not knew about it & for the dust not to enter my engine i covered my air-filter with foam
& please explain me a bit about this line..(You might have to get one drilled yourself as RTR already comes with a 125 jet.) & will it effect my avrg. right now i get 44 avrg.

The bigger main jet will cost you less than 50 bucks.Originally posted by GurpreetBatra View PostBro how much would the bigger main jet cost me ? as i did not knew about it & for the dust not to enter my engine i covered my air-filter with foam

You have to get your stock main jet drilled to a slightly bigger size as apache already has 125 size jet & finding bigger jet than this would be a problem.

Try finding Maruti Zen's (older one, not Estilo obviously) jet. Its 140 size.Originally posted by adi.singh1992 View PostThe bigger main jet will cost you less than 50 bucks.

Please don't modify the stock Jets. You will need those in future if you revert back to the stock air filter.
Try to get Pulsar 220's main jet and improvise on that if the Zen's jet is difficult to source.
P.S. This ain't a plug and play thingy. Trial and error method it is. You and the Mech should have a lot of patience to get the right setup. The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.

Thanks guyz for your suggestions...1 more thing i would like to share is that before i had installed my air filter directly to the carb. now yesterday night after i have put the pipe & then installed my air-filter on the pipe , now its not suffocating but the power has gone down & getting a surround sound in there
... now will go to a good mechanic n tell him to do what u people told me ..
lets see the results after that....
Thanks Everyone..

I think 140 would be an overkill.Originally posted by Garry_Menace View PostTry finding Maruti Zen's (older one, not Estilo obviously) jet. Its 140 size.
220's jet is only 115 and i think is smaller than the rtr's.Originally posted by Rtrlover83 View PostPlease don't modify the stock Jets. You will need those in future if you revert back to the stock air filter.

If he wants to revert back,he can always buy a spare one.
He can if he has experience of doing it earlier.Originally posted by GurpreetBatra View Postwill the mechanic only get it drilled if i tell him i want to do this in my bike ?

Ok so if i read it right, you installed a K&N airfilter to increase the air intake.
And then you wrapped it up in foam to reduce the filth intake?
1. Get rid of the K&N for rains
2. Get rid of the foam
3. Clean your filter regularly
4. Tweak your AFR ratio with the stock jet to begin with. Only if needed switch to a bigger jet or simply a bigger carbSuper CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more

Elaborating on the Point #4 of what Satyen said, you can tune your AFR by a screw located on the Carburettor.
There is a drainage screw on the bottom of carb. Don't touch that.
There could be another screw or adjustment that affects the idle rpm. Don't touch that either.
There is a 3rd screw that when tightened, will reduce the fuel supply. Have a look at the below image from FZ16, and try finding your screw correctly:

Loosen this fuel screw by 1 turn, and keep experimenting to see what setup works best for you. Don't tighten it further.
As for jet, I suggest you to get a new 125 sized jet from Karizma or RTR 180 and then, try getting it drilled but don't overdo it. Your drilling should be very slight. Even 1 mm extra would be too much.---
