• Bajaj Avenger Tail Bone Pain

Hi Bikers,

I am new to xbhp, I have an avenger which i took second hand (2006, 180cc). I am a person who travels a lot in my byke ( stretches that extends to 900kms). I went on a road trip to Kolli Hills ( namakkal) from bangalore which is close to 300kms in the newly bought bike. I realized after an hour of driving that i am getting sever pain in my tail bone. Some googling made me understand that it is coccyx pain and i even saw some self mod's for this. I am not really equipped to do this. Do you guys know any place in bangalore where i can get a custom coccyx seat for my avenger. Please suggest

Some other modifications that i am looking at doing to my bike are

1. Handle bar change for comfort (please suggest enticer or Thunder Bird)
2. Mobile charger and holder ( Please suggest where i can get really good stuff in bangalore)
3. I have heard of filter or some mod in avenger (please let me know what it is and is it good for the bike)
4. Twin head light for powerful light while long drives at night (please suggest where i can buy this)
5. There are some scratches ( please suggest a good digital sticking place in bangalore.

Thanks in advance for the help.

ans : you can try enticer or thunderbird however before you go for mods why not try changing the position of the handle front/back and check what suits you.

2. Mobile charger and holder ( Please suggest where i can get really good stuff in bangalore)

ans : you can connect the normal ciggrette lighter socket with a fuse in between for protection. check threads . multiple people have done it successfully .

3. I have heard of filter or some mod in avenger (please let me know what it is and is it good for the bike)

ans : changing to k&n or any other brand filter wont bring any noticeble gains to be true just with filter change. the sound note might change. better leave it stock.
else take suggestion for FM's for proper rejetting of the carb to take the benefit out of it.

4. Twin head light for powerful light while long drives at night (please suggest where i can buy this)

ans : instead of twin headlight and making a new clamp and more mods . why dont u get a projector and a HID and it will be far better than what you have now.

5. There are some scratches ( please suggest a good digital sticking place in bangalore.

ans : any radium shop guy will be able to work on the decals. if you want something specific then take a prinout and they will be able to cut it out for you.

Thanks in advance for the help.

@Jacob:

There are quite a few local car/bike seat makers who are very skilled in modifying stock seats. If you take a well-printed drawing of the kind of seat you need, and maybe explain your requirements very clearly, they can do the job for you at a fraction of the cost of buying a custom seat.

Although I agree with @theironhorse99 regarding the HIDs, you could also experiment with a twin headlamp setup. A twin headlamp with a windscreen will look smashing and harley-ish! Check this image from xbhp thread (no windscreen here, but I personally feel adding a windscreen will make it look way cooler!)

Again, there are a gazillion stickering shops in Bangalore, but the ones at JC road are generally more cheaper.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Nahum R Jacob : have been riding avenger200 for 6yrs now & am 42y.o.. based on my ownership experience & age, may i suggest the following:
1. move back the handlebars a bit - the elbow joint should be as close to a right-angle w/ the upper arm - thereby allowing u not to recline too much further - this also means u naturally sit straight waist-up. this might just work for u instead of changing the handlebar. u may get a custom seat made with a cushioned ring on the perimeter & a hollow in the middle to minimize the pain in ur case.
2. any standard mobile charger w/ a built-in on/off switch & a fuse will take care of this - google for it & u will find options aplenty - be advised though as this one drains the battery as well if not handled carefully.
3. modding a filter will have no noticeable impact on the performance - i suggest u leave it @ stock.
4. avenger200 & above versions have excellent stock headlight [also the most powerful in the class - perhaps just as good as a projector on a p220] i suggest that u stay away from HiD fitments etc. most such fitments result in unprecedented battery drain, not to mention alterations to the headlight reflector, the headlight glass / plastic, etc. At the best, u may fit halogens, LED's that go w/ a cut-out to minimize damage to ur battery as add-ons to the stock headlamp.
5. if scratches are trivial, any branded scratch remover might take care of it. the deeper ones can only be hidden / camouflaged by a paint / tape etc., if not fixed.
regret tho that i am from thane / mumbai... dunno where these things may get done 2 Blr.
ride safe & take care!

Re: Bajaj Avenger Tail Bone Pain

I added more padding to the rear seat and that seems to have resolved the discomfort issue. Checking the modification and so far so good. I have not taken a back seat. Will update again in a few days.

BTW, do you have any idea on plonking a Bullet silencer to an Avenger? I understand there would drop in mileage. How about engine life and power?
Unable to fetch the correct thread here. Can you help?

I'd say - stay away from muffler mods! They aren't meant for a <350cc mill. Way too many calculations go into an exhaust design. Back-thrust and pressure etc. You'll ruin the engine sooner.

Thank you for the quick response. The mechanic said there is a 2-core and a single core exhaust of Electra that could be used without any modifications. He would attach it to an Avenger's exhaust bend and that would be it.

Its not the bend or the shape that matters bro. If only all mufflers were simple tin cans. Even if you fit an exact replica (non Avenger muffler), it would harm the engine. If only you get an after market exhaust designed specifically for the bike you should put it.

You can get any high end exhaust from Ebay USA specifically made for Kawasaki type engines. There are many Kawasaki fitments available worldwide for Bajaj Pulsar-Avenger type bikes. Remember, the avenger's sitting position is table top and not horse riding type (like that of Pulsar ) so some riders will experience lower back pain.

I am more inclined towards the thump of RE(s).
Could you refer any links for exhausts? I tried but in vain ;-(

Hi fellow riders, sorry to intrude within the ongoing discussion with a complete off topic query. As you were talking about the modifications, is it possible to add a tachometer to our avey?

@originalPoster: How long have you been riding your Avenger?
When I got mine a few yrs back, I too had the tail bone pain for a little while. It then went away on its own. I believe this is because of the seating positing which is more upright compared to other bikes (non-cruisers).
If you are new to Avenger, I suggest you give it 2K-3K time. Your back will get used to it.
