  • Noob gets a Duke 200, need help with gear and some clarifications please :)

    Guys,
I recently bought a Duke 200, as I am newb, need your guys inputs on the below.

1.) Riding Safety gear and where to buy in b'lore.
    Helmet, Jackets, Gloves et al.
Also since I plan to go for long drives, any communicator that I can use with helmets with fellow bikers.

2.) I have noticed that the Duke 200 tends to get hot very quickly. Have anybody faced this issue. I have seen this mainly in stop and go traffic, and the fan just starts to buzz away. Any tips on what should I do at that time, should I just stop and wait for some time.

3.) I carry my bag around my shoulders while I drive to office which primarily holds my laptop. I have experienced pain in my shoulders, almost at the place where an Individual shoulder area ends.
So when I slowed down and took my bag off, the pain didnt subside, but what I noticed what relaxing my hands reduced the pain. I am guessing this is a seating ergonomics issue, than wearing my bag around my shoulders. Please share your views.

4.) Please share any tips on tying the bag to the Pillion seat, any solutions around that would help without affecting the ride and safety.

5.) Being a Hobbyist photographer I carry some heavy and expensive equipment with me, any tips and suggestions for carrying these around safely. For travel I usually use the below gear.
    Fuji X100s
    Nikon D800 + 70 200 2.8 + 50 1.8
I usually take my entire kit while I am in my car, but very apprehensive about carrying these equipment on a bike.
Please share your inputs on these, as I cant imagine going out without my camera.
I am thinking of carrying only a small camera (x100s), so that I enjoy my ride more than be worried about the gear.
    Please share your views.

    6.) Cleaning tips

Also I will update this thread with any more queries that hit me

    Thanks,
    Lohith

        1. Refer http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/showthread.php?p=957255 for the various stores in Blore.

        2. Just keep riding, what you are experiencing is normal. If it's extreme take it up with the SVC

        3. Wearing the bag does cause stress on the shoulder muscle add to that the aggressive seating on the duke you got the perfect recipe for some back/shoulder ache. Try to reduce load within the bag. Tighten straps to the max when in seating position this will prevent the bag from moving and be a little more comfortable. Also you could consider using bungee cords to tie your bag to the rear seat but I don't think that would be a very good idea on the duke, especially if you got your laptop along.

        4. Read above

        5. For carrying a dslr, the viaterra fly is the only dedicated luggage equipment available here. It can be used as both tank and tail bag. However this doesn't mean that other tank bags are useless have look at the various products available and then choose your pick

        6. For cleaning use regular car shampoo, water, a regular cotton cloth to wipe down would suffice, a microfiber cloth is a better however. For cleaning chain you could spend on chain cleaners and other lubes or you could use diesel to clean and then apply the lube

Refer the duke 200 ownership thread for queries regarding your ride. People there could help you better

              2. As long as the temp indicator does not reach max, just keep it running.

              3. Sounds like you are tensioning your arms and hands. Verry common problem nomatter if you are carrying a bag or not. Squeeze the bike with your tights and relax your arms and hands. You need to remind yourself about this very often, otherwise you're gonna find yourself cramping on to the handle bars. Move your elbows up and down like a chicken every now and then, they should be loose and relaxed. You fix your body to the bike with your legs, not your arms. Hold the grips with a very light force.

                    Guys,
I took my bike out for a drive today to Hebbal lake. It's close by to my house and I usually frequent there.
I did drive a wee bit fast at around 75 KM/h which I dont think is abnormal.

I returned home and I found a weird Kat-Kat sound from my bike.
I dint know what was happening, so I thought I would check with you guys as to what is happening. Below is the video.
It's not very clear, but your can hear it 0:09 sec, 13 and 16 sec, it comes at regular intervals.

When the bike cools down there will be some noise due to contraction. Don't worry about them man. Can understand that it's a new bike and you are taking extra care of it.
