• Feeling Ripped off by Race Concepts...carb for FZ16

I have a Yamaha FZ16 and recently consulted with race concepts on a 29mm carburettor for my bike. I then travelled all the way from Hennur to Begur to Race Concepts as he said he had a 29mm custom carburettor for my bike. To my surprise I was pretty much given a UCAL BS29 stock carb(meant for Pulsars) for my FZ16. He also charged me Rs.4000 for a carb that retailed for Rs.2411. When i told my mech to install it he warned me against it and yet trusting the guy from Race Concepts I installed it on my bike. Ever since then my bike has been back firing and has not been riding very smoothly.
Not only does he live on the outskirts he is even harder to reach. Realizing I was a noob in auto mechanics he clearly took me for a spin along with my cash. I feel cheated and unsatisfied.
Those of you who go to Race concepts for auto consultation, please do your research.
I do not know what to do and how to rectify the problem at hand So if you have any suggestion which wont cost me anymore money please feel free to share.

TIA...

Bluetorque Buddy, we understand what you must be going through.
We guess you have tried contacting him by all methods, phone, mail, etc, is it?

I'm myself not so experienced at different types of carburetors. I guess, your best bet is to reinstall your FZ's old carburetor itself.

psr Sir, could you help him out?

@ Others: Guys, let us concentrate on the Carb problem only... And let's keep it sane.

Sorry to see you going through this experience..
When you fit a A 29 mm carb., in place of a 26mm carburetor, you loose Venturi Velocity ,which will make the bike crawl at lower RPM. Your FE will also drop, and Overall the bike performance will just go down...
I would request you to Revert Back to OE 26mm carburetor . If you want more reliable power then you may have to go for a higher CC and HP bike to suit your requirement.

Thank you all for the suggestions...I suggest you all be wary for Race Concepts...I guess their passion for auto-mech has converted into a passion of money. @psr: What is an FE. What should I do with the current Carb.? I have already dropped 4k foolishly on the part. And yes I can already feel the performance dropping. What carb do you recommend i change to.

Is there anyone who'd be interested in buying the carb for 2400...BS29 UCAL. ? please get in touch.

FE means Fuel Efficiency/'mileage' in layman terms.
Revert back to old stock carb.

P.S - There are certain eye popping threads on the forum related to the same topic/vendor. Have a look through them.

Dear friend, if you had atleast googled using the keywords "Race Concepts Xbhp" , you would not have ended up losing 4k. Anyways its all over. Revert to stock and enjoy till you feel satisfied with the power of your reliable fz .

I am a little bit lost out here. Why would you want a 29mm carb for your bike? Have you made any changes to the engine? If so what are they?

Also on what basis was this carb recommended to you? Did he advise you to install this to cure some issues or was it that you asked for this carb and he said yes can get you one?

It is apparent from your statements that there is a fuelling problem with the carb.

The only thing you can do for best results is convert back to stock and ride the bike in stock conditions.. If you want more power.. get a bigger bike like the P200NS.. stock bike with better power and reliable as compared to hot rods (modded)

Bluetorque, I really feel sorry about this brother. My humble suggestion to you is go back to stock carb. Also you may sell your 29mm carb to some mech or at Gujari (scrap) to recover some part of money wasted. Even i was offered a pulsar carb for my yamaha ybx for 6K ! from a known mech on Dr Raj road, Rajajinagar, Bangalore. Somehow i grew suspicious and rejected the offer. As of my observation, if you run your bike on bigger carb, there will be no initial grunt. But top end speed may improve. Anyway this kind of modification will surely ruin your engine. Its better to run on stock carb.

Cheers
