Bike transport in volvo bus. Help needed.
Hi guys, I'm moving frm bangalore to hyderabad. I have fzs bike and I have to take it to hyd. I don't want to prefer the hassle of sending in trains. Cargo pple said they will take 3 days to deliver and that too quoted 3.5k and i have to pack it myself there. I tried calling few bus travels but they said they're not doing that. So is there any volvo bus service which can transport the bike here. Ofcourse I'll also be travelling in the same bus.Tags: None

Before someone else asks you, may I ask, Why not ride it yourself?
I know the distance is a big one. But you can do it, going slowly and taking breaks and all. I've done 600 kms in a day on a Pulsar 180, and many on this forum have done more...
Also, kindly clarify more about your situation? I mean, are you shifting permanently?
If that's the case, why not pack the bike and take it in a truck, with your other luggage? In fact, a proper truck can occupy a lot more luggage than just a bike, and you can travel in its driver's compartment.
In my opinion, a hired truck is a better choice, specially if you have more luggage.---

Re: Bike transport in volvo bus. Help needed.
To add to this, I have done From Delhi to Coimbatore and back to Delhi in 7 days (5200kms in total).. But the thing that matters a lot is, is the rider comfortable with long rides, has he/she done 300+ kms ride? If not, then it is better to carry the bike in train/bus (if possible)Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostHelp Topic Approved.

Contact VRL as well as KPN. They used to transport bikes earlier, not sure if they still do.Originally posted by Akhil_s View PostHi guys, I'm moving frm bangalore to hyderabad. Else, contact 'state run packers' and movers. Not the private run ones. They pick up your bike from your home, pack it and deliver within 2 days (upto 500 km) quite safely. They may take a day extra for Hyderabad.
In case you haven't ridden 500 km in a day earlier, DO NOT ride the bike to Hyderabad. The weather is bad and crosswinds a bit too much 200 km into the journey.
Also, there is nothing in the name of a restaurant/petrol pump after you cross Anantpur upto Kurnool on the highway. Same story after Kurnool till Mahbubnagar.
P.S - In case you plan to ride, account for a travel time of 10-12 hours all inclusive.Last edited by Divya Sharan; 06-23-2015, 12:39 PM.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Bike transport in volvo bus. Help needed.
ok..first of all, I don't mind riding the bike myself. Once I have done 340 kms in one day and rested well that night. I love riding the bike all the time.
Actually I am a bachelor and staying single in Bglr. Now I got transferred to Hyd. So obviously it is a permanent transfer.
Well, in between Bglr and Hyd, there are 2 cities Anantapur and Kurnool and I have my relatives there, so there's no problem with resting. I am only worried if bike would feel abused for such a long ride.
I contacted several volvo travels and they said they have stopped doing that. Contacted KPN too.
Well regarding truck, I contacted GATI. But they were saying immediately that I have to pack the bike and if any damage happens they won't be responsible for any damage at all. Imagine - you call them and ask about details, and first thing they say is about damage - well that gives me chills.
So that's why I thought Volvo might be a viable option..
If volvo option is not possible, may be I have to search for a service which transports atleast my luggage safely (just couple of trolley bags and duffel bags) and then I can ride the bike happily.

Re: Bike transport in volvo bus. Help needed.
What bike do you have. If not for a commuter 100cc, there is no other vehicle that will have a problem covering that distance. You might get tired, your motorcycle will keep going!!! Of course this doesn't apply if you have a vintage of some sort!
If i were you and owned an Activa, i would be riding down, and that too with loads of luggage
Don't worry, just ride!
EDIT: Just saw that you own an FZ. Man you can ride to the end of the world on that and still have bike remaining
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Hahaha. I don't know where you saw that picture. And i had completely forgotten about it. But since you bring back some good memories. Here goes...
Doesn't quite show the amount of luggage on the bike. But believe me, everything that i owned was on the back of my bike. Including my spare helmet
All this was carried for 500km from Kanpur to Delhi.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Go to justdial.com and search for some packers and movers. Call 5-10 of them, someone would give you cheap rates for bike and your luggage.Originally posted by Akhil_s View Postwell...now I achieved enough inspiration...and I'm excited to ride...

Re: Bike transport in volvo bus. Help needed.
Three years back I got my KB100RTZ transported from Madurai to Chennai via KPN parcel services. The Parcel service van travels started along with the bus and reached chennai two hours after the bus reached. They broke one of my indicator's stay and unloading was rough too. No slope for lowering the bike. They just carried it down (with me also helping them due to less labours). The petrol tube to the engine was pulled off in spite of me telling them clearly before loading that I have emptied the tank (it looks like it is common procedure for them to do so). I had to roam around and find a mechanic to fix it. Apart from my experience I have heard such stories from other people too. Not just KPN, most parcel services are careless with motorcycles (Even the acclaimed Agarwal Packers). AFAIK there are two best ways. One, Indian Railways. The first time my KB arrived from Coimbatore to Madurai, the bike came in a train and was in perfect condition when it arrived. Advantages are that it is far cheaper and reliable way of getting you bike transported. Disadvantage is that the person who packs and unpacks will ask you money for sure. Note: This happens with the previously mentioned parcel services also. As everyone suggested, the second and best way to get it there with a peace of mind is to ride it there. With the FZ covering 550+kms is not a problem for the bike, but it could be tiring for the rider, especially if not experienced in long rides. Another problem is that the road is fully fourlaned and boring. I could not stand the fourlaned boringness even doing 100-110 on my Karizma from Chennai to Madurai (blame me partially since I was riding in dead summer heat). I can only imagine how long it would take on a FZ to do a Bangalore Hyderbad ride. The upside is that we bikers can make any ride enjoyable. If you can turn it into enjoyable ride by cruising at your own pace and planning the ride well, then go ahead with the "Ride to Bangalore" plan. But if you don't feel comfortable about it, Indian Railways is the best way to go.Tour De Thekkady

Re: Bike transport in volvo bus. Help needed.
transport it via train and make sure you also travel in the same train and are present at the time of loading/unloading. use a point to point train, these trains have a goods compartment that is sealed at the origin station and opened only at the destination.. this minimizes risk of damage.Originally posted by Akhil_s View Postwell I did that already...I was only looking for some logistics who are reliable. otherwise you can ride down to Hyderabad, and the fz shouldn't create any problems provided it has been maintained at least normally. you can take breaks at anantapur/kurnool since you've got relatives there... the road though is a smooth four laned highway that gets boring
you can then go back to blore via train and pickup your stuff and come back over a weekend... or ask your friends to send your luggage via some private travels like kpn, kesineni and you can collect it at hyderabad.
