    It has begun.

Project tempest has begun. I am merging a 180 Cl. gearbox with a 220 crank and cylinder.

@Ganesh: Come to our usual place and give me a call. We can compare notes.

if you wanna use the stock engine and make it a 220 i dont think its possible...

yes, it IS possible and i've done that

because they have different strokes... the stock cylinders and heads cant be used because of the huge difference in stroke size...
and even if you use the cylinder and head from a 220 its not gonna work as the crankshaft is shorter and wont be able to complete combustion...

I have mentioned before. Head is from a P200 and cylinder is from a P220 and the crank is a 220s crank. So it is possible.

and changing all that is almost like designing a new engine...
what you can do is go for pistons with bigger bore size... it will increase the displacement of the engine...

I would just obtain low end torque and nothing with the top end. this was my first idea but i chucked it when the thought of using a longer crank came in.

although this will not make your bike a 220cc bike but this is the only practical thing i can think of...
although i wouldnt bore the cylinders of my bike to increase displacement as the performance gain is not huge... and you ll actually lose more if not done properly...

but my suggestion would be get a 220... trust me i ve been that way... its not worth all the money hassle and the hard work put into it...
      just my 2 cents...
Thank you for your suggestions, but its out of the scope of this thread as i've already completed the job and i'm indeed giving a "run-for-the-money" of many P220 owners.

@bibhu: Indeed. Still a work in progress. Once that is done, the irritated penguin would be a bit less irritated

        A very low cost mod:
I have a P180UG3 and I got the high duration CAM from the 220F[the carb one] installed on my bike. This has made my bike a lot more torquey and rev friendly. The bike pulls off a 100 on the speedo very effortlessly. A lot better than the stock setup. Throttle response has improved a lot. The good thing is: The camshaft is a direct fit. The bad thing is it doesnot have the exhaust valve decomp mechanism, so byebye kick starter. the best price is the money involved.

        Cost of the CAMSHAFT: Rs480/-
        Labour charges: Rs 170/-
        CAMSHAFT Part details:
CAMSHAFT 220F Part number: DJ 101373

Yes, both are carb only but have they made any changes to the CAM? I'm asking about the former only

This thread is very old. when this thread was created, there was no carb version of the P220.

                    • Yes there is a difference in the lobe width of the cam. the 220F cam are wider at the lobe thus keeping the valves open for a longer time.

Ah, then its time for me to try that cam too.

And recently i've converted my bike to hold bulbs up to 180W and converted the bike to DC. Battery setup is 12v16A
