  • Want to buy a 600cc bike

hello to all fellow XBHPIAN Brothers,

well i am in pune, and i am looking forward to take my first step in sports biking, and i am considering to buy a 600cc machine, and looking to buy a new model bike like 2009 or 10, and i have no idea to whom i can contact or meet and get the necessary details about bikes in pune, so i would ask all of you to help me on this.
is there a dealer here in pune? to whom i can contact.
As i have been riding and RD since the past 3 yrs, i have realized that now its the correct time to upgrade to a high premium level of biking and am really eager to own a premium bike.
And please also help me choose a bike which handles the best, has the best accelation, torque,hp etc may it be of any make like yamaha, suzuki, honda, ducati etc

really awaiting replies to this!!! thanks

    regards Sohaib!!

I would change my opinion about the link i posted.
better to contact an xbhpian more than anyone else.
btw... you can find his posts easily on the kawasaki ninja 250R thread.

I would ask you to check for proper, valid, and legal paper-work before you indulge your hard earned money into a 600cc motorcycle! Believe me, you do not want to spend such amount of money on an automobile and then be scared to take it out on the roads, because of legal issues!

Perhaps, you can get your hands on an legal 1000cc motorcycle (the 2008 R1, for instance) for Rs.7.5 lakhs odd.
            :)

thank oyu aryan for your reply, but a 1000cc bike would be a lot more powerful, for me it would be like biting off more than i could chew , and yes i want my bike to be totally legal unless and until that i wont go for it.
and 2008 R1, at 7.5? would that be a brand new ? where could get the details about it?

you cannot get a legal 600 in this country. and where you live, Pune it is way to risky to get an illegal bike, incase you were up north, it would not have been much of a problem.
my two cents, get a legal second hand R1.
Chrome rims and bling ? get a real life !

If not sports, then you can always buy the base harley for 7 odd lakhs! But yes a 600 is apt for the next upgrade and will be most suitable.

@sohaibak : First of all welcome the "sportsbiking"

Now as far as your budget and our requirement is concerned I really doubt that you will get a new(read:from company) 600cc in India as you also know that 600cc are not launched in India by any makers.
And if you are thinking of importing it that would cost a HUGE amount, then also there are some criteria for that.

But yes in the budget of 6-7lacs you can easily get 2nd hand (1or2 year old) RRs and R6 would just come in that bracket of 7 lacs.

As said by Aryan Da, get all the papers checked specially the which mentions "DUTY PAID".
While taking the bike ask any SBK owner to accompany you with a good SBK mechanic to check the bike.

PMing you a website which would help you in searching a good 600cc for you.

I hope these all info will help you get the right legal bike.
                    Do keep us updated.

i do not understand why a 600 is not legally available? and a second hand R1 is legal how come?
as 600 isint legel then 1000 must also be, but i guess there are many people who own these mighty machines, so how do they get them the legal way???

The answer lies in the words CBU,SKD,CKD
Our Finance Ministry has ruled that body assembly of vehicles having engine and gear box installed in them will be treated as a completely built unit (CBU). Such assemblies will attract 60 per cent rate of customs duty, as against 35 per cent on the semi-knocked down (SKD) and completely knocked down (CKD) units.

1000cc are officially launched by the makers here in India.
Those other than officially launched 1000cc or HD(Harley Davidson) are what imports we all know or they have been bought by paying all the duties which again crosses a certain limit.

^^ let me add some more.

Any bikes below 800cc in the country have to be homologated for running, i.e. they have to be approved by the ARAI for release and sale in the country. This is to protect the indian motorcycle industry. Bikes above 1000cc do not need the homologation, so can be brought in any way, CKD/CBU etc, just gotta pay the import duty of 118% percent on it.

dude why dont u start with a 1000cc bike... what is ur previous riding history like lots of sbks... just shifted from 220, 250s and 350s directly to 1000cc's

anyway no BRAND NEW STREET LEGAL 600cc bike can be found in india otherwise ... i would have ordered r6 on the day of its launch

maybe try gettin ur hand on a second hand ninja 250 and then shift to 1000cc if you think the big ones will be to much to handle ....

                              happy searchin
