Shogun sprocket change?

    Shogun sprocket change?

    Hi,

    I wanted to know if we can change the front chain sprocket to a bigger size (more teeth) and in turn reduce the overall vibration of the Shogun (I know vibration goes hand-in-hand with Shogun ).

    My bike is a 2000 Model Shogun with a 3.25 x 16 Yezdi tyre at the rear. This change reduced the speed-RPM ratio.For example; now it takes almost 7500 rpm to cross 60 kmph speed (previously I could cross 60kmph in around 6500 rpm).

    So my question is can both above issues be sorted out by changing the sprocket or is there any other solution (no I dont want to go back to 3.00 x 18 ; got used to it).

    And finally, is there any remedy for the ignition key vibration (buzzing sound)? This is really spoiling the "melody of the gun"

        by increasing Front sprocket teeth u will definetly get higher rpm /speed ratio but it will take a long time to get that speed[taller gears]. U will be able to get back ur initial ratio may be even higher speed at that RPM ur initial will drop for sure.By the way try increasing front sprocket only by 1 teeth[~-3 rear teeth] ...
        on 4 wheels u feel the speed after a crash, 2 wheelers are much more advanced

          I dont mind the delay in acceleration, but a better top end and more specifically if it can reduce the vibration it would be great.

          Also any suggestions which bike's front sprocket might fit it ?

            well i have no idea about shogun.. better go to TVS guys and ask which front sprocket[with more teeth] would fit.. i am sure that vibs will be mostly reduced with bigger teeth...

              Currently it is running on stock Shogun sprocket and chain setup. But I have changed the rear wheel to 3.25 x 16 Yezdi tyres. No other modifications.

                The Samurai's rear sprocket is supposedly smaller than the Shogun's. It should bring the gearing back close to the original gearing.

                If you shift back to 18" rims, you'll have much better choice of tyres. Even in 17", the choice is large.

                  Just a small clarification, if the rear sprocket is smaller than Shogun's, then the acceleration will go up and the topend will come down. Correct me if I am wrong, but logically a smaller diameter will always rotate faster. Then how will it match the rpm/speed ratio ?

                    Reducing rear sprocket teeth will solve ur problem,it will reduce final drive ratio so top end will improve but reduce accelaration,rather than increasing front sprocket teeth try to reduce rear sprocket teeth...it will give u more accurate command on torque and speed,and also u dont requred to increase chain size,simply remove chain links....
                    Theoroticaly...
                    power =2#NT/60
                    so if u increase number of rotation N then u will reduce torque value...and vice versa....

                      I have tried changing Gearbox sprocket on my Shogun. From the original 13 teeth. I had tried 15 (of Yamaha RX ,I guess). I had to lose some metal from the Sprocket cover though as the larger sprocket scraped the metal. Initial acceleration dropped considerably but the mid range was awesome & gave me better cruising. You are right about the vibration reduction..... it does subdue the vibration levels. Right now I am using a 14 teeth GB sprocket (of the old CBZ). Happy with it......

                        Thanks for the info Karthik. You said you have changed the gearbox sprocket to 14 teeth of CBZ, what abt the rear? Its running on stock or have you changed it?

                        Also, is there any significant drawback by changing the sprocket sizes, especially on the gear ratios?

                          My rear sprocket is of the original 44 teeth. I have been told that increasing the GB sprocket dia does stress the engine at Lower RPMs (same holds for decreasing the rear sprocket dia). Gotta verify this with an expert though..... Regarding the gear ratios, the original Final drive ratio is 3.4 (44/13). Currently mine is 3.2 (44/14). Decreasing the ratio makes the gears taller (you'll have more time to accelerate in a particular gear) while increasing it leads to Shorter gears (faster or earlier peaking in every gear). And, btw, both my tyres are of 17"

                            I am planning to go ahead with the Pulsar UG3 44/15 GB sprocket. Heard from my mech that the Pulsar GB sprocket will be a perfect match for the all TVS Suzuki bikes (Shogun included). So should I change the chain also (since you may need to add an additional link or two)? Any plug and play chains available (basically want to avoid the breaking/joining of the chain).

                              Your mechanic is right about fitting Pulsar's GB sprocket into Shogun. As for the chain, I added another safety link to the chain. Working fine so far with regular lubrication. I had previously used chains of Ambition followed by Pulsar's. Both went fine for me.
