  • Good Sealed Beam for HID

    http://www.suvlights.com/product_info.php?products_id=301

If you closely watch the reflector, you can see that the HD bulb is fully covered with a glare shield and only the bottom part is open to the parabolic reflector which in turn it limits the glares to upward. Glass ofcourse, have a vital role in this, as you can see almost all the driving lights are with the non clear conventional type glass except the fog lamps. Fog lamps spread is only for 4-10 ft around the bumper and its not a focused spread also. So if a driving light have an HID, I assume that its good for go for a non clear lens type. Any suggestions? Also, you can see there is a patch below the bulb to prevent the glare to the lower part of the reflector.

I expect everyone to participate this thread and put in your valuable observations.
    Thank you.

From what I have seen in the link posted, an Ambassador silbeam may be a good choice for HID. I can vouch for its excellent spread and focusing properties, when used with a normal halogen bulb. And, it does not have clear lens. Maybe you can try it out. Costs a mere 100 bucks!

Abhi, thanks for the reply, you are always prompt. I dont mind in testing with amby sealed beam or gypsy's after all round reflector gives more focus than the MFRs. But how about the lower part patches, I think I should do some masking tape within the dome to avoid glares from there. Also I should fabricate a custom glares sheild to cover the upper part of the bulb fully, as the current one is blocking only the bottom. I hope u still using the amby sealed beam, so you could give a hand. Whats the dia of amby sealed beam? 7" Pulsar stock fairing will accomodate only 6" within the stock reflector. Fixing on to the reflector will be easy as the stock reflector has the beam level adjustor, once you remove the reflector its not as easy to fix the level adjustor. Anyway I will try this and get you updated, but time is hard pressed for nowadays, should practice the time management too. Any tips

As it is not clear lens, the glass itself should prevent glares to some extent. Else you may shield the bulb itsellf, I guess. Diameter is same as stock pulsar round headlight. Its 7'' from what I remember. Yeah, the level adjuster will need some tweaking. I can show you how it is done in the old Pulsar. If the metal brace is not already there, it can be welded on. Nothing too difficult. Many ppl have converted their Pulsars to round headlight.

Thanks, I dont want to get rid of the stock fairing and the sealed glass as its the best for the apeal. What am trying to do is fixing the dom within the stock sealed beam, its a tricky job but am confident. Stock fairing has enough space inside, outside for many utilities, so dont want to change. 7" wont go directly to the dome may involve some cutting holes in the back side of the stock dome. Another mess is leveling the beam adjustor, some trial and error method will help, I hope you got my idea.

Yeah I got it. Maybe some bike mods shops will be able to help you. But, I like the original Pulsar look the most. It brings out the tank!

Yes, you have your own view points to stick or not. Lets leave it there and have more focus to the thread. Have you noticed with colour of the HID the more temp you opt the more glares. So the ideal temp will be 5-6K

The normal yellowish white (5K) is good for all whether, 6K ie; blue tint upwards are only for cosmetic appeal. Even my HID is 6K but makes me shy on wet roads as the blue is absorbed better than normal yellowish. Normal conditions you are in the limelite and you are the show man, even the big car drivers will give you admiring looks, you can see the things better, signs, divider marks, everything but on a limited distance due the lack of proper focused reflector.

Anyone out there to give some suggestions?

Nice thread.. Even am working on the same for my Unicorn. I want the exterior looks to remain the same but the inner should be different. Thou am still in paper work, my plans is to put projectors rather than any other doom.

Even a 35W HID connected directly to battery can not last more than an hour!
