                  • ^^My 1000D has come equipped with a NON IS 18-55 kit lens and till date i am happy with the result, i am pretty sure that IS can surely make some difference. But what and how much i am not sure as i havnt experienced the IS 18-55 first hand.

                    • @Niks: I haven't used the non-IS version of the 18-55 kit lens, because when I had bought the 400D, I had got "only body" and I specifically wanted the 18-55 IS lens.

                      Surely, the kit lens rocks, but nothing can beat the UWA 10-22mm, when it comes to APS-C/ EF-S wide angles.
