Canon launched today Powershot SX30IS with 35x optical zoom, 24-840 mm.
Here are the details:
- 14.1 Megapixel CCD
- F2.7-5.8, 35X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 24 - 840 mm
- Optical image stabilization promises 4.5 stops of shake reduction
- Flip-out, rotating 2.7" LCD display (230k pixels) + electronic viewfinder (202k pixels)
- Smart Auto mode + full manual controls
- New "zoom framing assist" quickly retracts the lens to one of three preset positions
- Hot shoe for external flash
- Records video at 1280 x 720 (30 fps) with stereo sound and use of optical zoom
- HDMI output
- SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC/MMCplus/HC MMCplus card slot
- Now uses a lithium-ion battery instead of AA
- Ships in late September for $429

@Ravi: I don't suppose at 35x the image would be tact sharp. What I AM deeply interested is in the 4.5 stops of IS! That is HUGE; 4.5 stops!

Agree with you Aryan. But, it is coming from Canon, and I am sure it will be reasonably good (I feel Canon does make crap cameras). Canon is using UD and Hi-UD elements (as in L-series lenses) to reduce aberrations. The corners might be soft, but I am sure the center will reasonably sharp. I am amazed at 24 mm ultra-wide end. Eagerly waiting for the test results. My fingers are crossed.
Also, Canon released Powershot G12, and I am very much interested in this. I might buy one if it does have the same quality as G11.

I use a Canon Rebel XSI (450D) with 55-250mm and a 18-55mm kit lens..
All the above shots are clicked using 55-250mm lens.
