malcolmk : congratulations! she is quiet a looker there.

if i am not mistaken, the fotos are in & around 5-gardens locality [am from hem kunj apts right opp parsee gymkhana, the newly redeveloped structure right behind ruia college bus stop]

i also noticed the 'parsee' insignia on the fairing - either u are one or u got her from one - in either case, both is good for u since parsee's are known to care for their machines like their own children!

do join the n650 owners group on FB.

loads of fun, knowledge, group buys, etc. there.

ride safe my friend & may she put a wide grin on ur face all the time!

                      jai ho!

                            • "कुछ भी हो लेकिन रांझे की हीर होती है "

This is the line from a song from a movie i saw long time back. In fact it is the first movie that i saw. It featured a lanky hero with twin cylinders that spat out clouds big enough for siri to live and work peacefully. I didn't know it then but it was a Yamaha RD350. The most ferocious 2 stroke bike to set its rubbers on the roads here. Some might argue it still is the most ferocious thing. And they might be more correct than the scores of Salman fans.

The song in some metaphorical way is also my dad's idea of what people should aspire for and what they should not.

Clearly, then you would think that this is what should go as a caption with the photo of the new bike.

                              I thought so too.

But we both would be wrong.

Because the ninja 650 is not my dream bike. It is two cylinders short of leaving wet spots on my pants ( I admit here that the Aprilia's V4 has started leaving biggers spots than a certain red italian). The cylinder's configuration is suspect too. They are more of a siamese twins than being joined at the hip with an arm's distance between them. It is 25 bhp short of that magical figure. It is at least 25 kgs overweight.

It isn't what i have waited for 15 years. It wasn't even in the contention 6 months back. I didn't dream of doing things to it. I didn't dream of it doing things to me. I never though it could give me, as James May says, the fizz in that vunrenable spot between the unmentionables. It is not the girl i lusted for, wanted to do things to that Cosmopolitian will love to quote, turned a pervert for.

It isn't the bike your mother warned you about.

                              It isn't THE bike.

But, admit it, you knew a but was around the corner, that isn't all there is to love stories.

There are the types where you are in love before you know you are in love and there are types where you are sure you are not in love till you are in it.

I am clearly hinting at the ad of a certain diamond brand where the girl has never travelled in a Mumbai local or changed trains at CP metro station.

The most charming thing, to me at least, about love remains the idea of love. The tricks it plays with your brain. When you get smitten isn't the most important part, how you stay smitten, I think, is. Yes, it is not the dream bike, but like i said to Amit the other day, it looks the sort i will have dream rides on. It isn't a story of me being with someone i was smitten by, it is more of me getting smitten with the one i am with. I might not be, but it feels like that. I have a feeling i will take that left hander to baralachala a little faster on this. I know i will not get ahead but i will chase Amit's daytona on this.

I know for sure i will always crave for a V4 but when it comes to it, i won't be able to let go of this.

Reluctantly, like it is always the case with me, i will agree one day that i have fallen for it.

This might not be the end of an incredulous love story, but from the 200 kms i have already spent with it, it looks like beginning of one.

And once you have that figured you will, like me realize, that one Hero was a crappy movie, the song is not great either, but the line still holds, at least for now from the bike's perspective.

In a parallel universe the bike can post a photo of me with that line, because the bike has eventually netted me - its heer.

She may not be what you actually wanted but make no mistake about it she will surely make you go crazy. She may be 25 bhp short of what you would have liked but she will never disappoint you in performance. She may be 25 kgs more than what you would have asked for but once she is on the move even the 210+ kgs weight will disappear in a flash.

Complete the run in, open the throttle and head to the canyons and highways and you'll realize she is a dream ride. You would get all you wanted from a bike once you let her loose, all this without burning a hole in the pocket!

Wait as she will turn your heart Green!
