    Re: Mahindra Centuro

close to 8400 kms now. Done with the 4th service last sunday.. the FE seem to be hovering between 50-55 (51 to 52kmpl actually) with the speeds between 45-55 km/h within the city (without much traffic really, so normal traffic without any long waits or bumper to bumper with idling). The service station guy did some air screw adjustments & I hope the FE increases further. Total bill was 450rs (290rs for oil + another 160rs of various overhead charges which they invariably add). The only extra task carried out was chain tightening & lube. I am thinking of stopping with this useless service (paid service will be around 700rs as per their feedback) once the free service quote is over and I myself change the oil & get any minor work done with local mechanics (even though the warranty may not be valid).

BTW, there were many people there who were complaining that their bikes give only 30-40kmpl and saying even a bullet is better than this one.

      Re: Mahindra Centuro

      Hi all,
I've bought a Centuro with the Digital speedo. Initially the bike was good and gave a mileage of approx 80KMPL and after the first service it went really bad to 45KMPL. When I asked the service center they just said that they did not touch the tuning at all and wouldnt touch till the 3rd service. What could have gone wrong? Also the vehicle tends to wobble by itself, it starts going to the left and right with no control. Any suggestions? Thanks in Advance!

      Thanks,

        Thanks,
45kmpl seem to be an average. it may go up by another 5kmpl to 50+ IMO if you drive it a at lower speeds (4k RPM) and constant speeds between 30-50kmph.

Reg. wobbling, If I could suggest, you should
        a) get the chain & sprokets checked
        b) check the tires
        c) Check the front suspension functioning

You can get this checked at a local mechanic if the service center guys are not supportive. Also, write to Mahindra customercare for support/escalation.

          Thank you!
I gave it to the service center today and he said there was some misalignment in the fork and would get it corrected. Also he said he would do some adjustment for FE.
Interestingly there was a Red Centuro which he mentioned to give 90 KMPL steadily!

Wow.. 90kmpl? ask him the secret please.. I would be delighted if I got even 70kmpl.. hope he is not manually pushing it for 30kms out of that 90km :P

Can you pl. ask him what is the air-screw setting & associated idling RPM to get such a good FE?

Note: Idle RPM varies depending on the engine temperature

Just thought of updating that my centuro is an year old now.. has clocked 9K till date with FE of 50-55kmpl. I was surprised that the insurance guys never called up to remind me for a renewal. It has expired earlier this month itself. So, went with reliance insurance this time, with an online renewal for 1168rs.

Hey there, I am planning to buy centuro within this month. considering digital speedo model. I own a Royal enfield classic 500 now. Im buying this for city commute. Is there any concern or any specific thing about this bike before i buy or use this bike? and is the mahindra service good?

The bike performs well so far. It's my uncle's bike but I've ridden it several times. The bike handles well and performs good. Service backup in my locality is pretty good. Mileage seems to be around 55 kmpl under slight rough handled full city usage..

                        My feedback:
                        1. It is a pure commuters bike for city use. Do not expect to zip through like 200 - 350 CC bike. Lower your expectation if you are looking for a cheetah :P It is like hero honda splendor or the original CD100. Having said, it rides comfortably & smooth at 50-60Kmph. It struggles beyond 70kmph (and I havent pushed it beyond either, except for one time when I did push it upto 70+, but was very rough).
                        2. No major issues per say in the bike I have. Only nagging point for me is the tappet noise (makes the engine sound loud), but have got used to it now. I dont want them to open the head & adjust it every time.
                        3. Other frustrating point - expectation of getting the bike serviced at every 1500 km as per their manual. Paying 500rs for spending 1500rs fuel initially (free service) and 750rs for every 1500rs fuel is ridiculous IMO since we are looking at an economical bike.
                        4. Mahindra service is OK. I would recommend that you get the bike serviced as per the schedule till it runs 10K kms (or 1st year) and after that dump all services & follow your heart & mind on when the bike should be really serviced.
                        5. Gives me around 60kmpl FE now after 11k kms on the odo. Started with 60, went down to 50 and now hovers between 55-60. I ride at around 50-60kmph when roads are free and in BLR traffic (at 0-30kmph).
                        6. No major issues till now (touch wood).

I have stopped giving it for service. I just got the engine oil changed at a petrol bunk (some offer was on) recently & it is all fine.

In a nutshell, go for it if you want a city use (in traffic) bike which is easy to handle. The seating position is ideal (i am 5'9) and hence is comfortable for long durations on the bike for me. If you have very high expectations on performance & efficiency, then you have to forego the first.

No updates further on this thread? Looks like no 1 else bought this bike after us LOL

BTW, the mahindra shop near my place shut down & hence there is no service available now. I hope the spares are similar to HH and we will not have any issues. I have not given it for service for long now :P (and dont intend to either.. just oil change & use).. the tappet noise is slightly loud (can get it set with any local mechanic if I wish to).. the FE is down to 45kmpl.. i am not fretting
