Oops- that's not at all good mate. We expect some seriousness from them.

Btw my bird was also showing low battery sign which did not go until 4th service where ASC claimed that they charged the battery.

While taking the vehicle delivery back I made them check the gravity and it came to 12.24 points which is decent and I took the vehicle back home.

Now battery signal is gone but am keeping fingers cross that nothing goes bad.

Very sorry state of affairs at Royal Enfield. Instead of spending crores of rupees on brand image, new logo, new monogram, new font, etc., Royal Enfield should concentrate on improving the quality of their products by strict quality control process in their so-called new plant at Oragadam.

I think the waiting period is the main culprit.
RE does not really need to sell the bikes. The bikes are selling themselves.
Today, RE knows how many bikes it needs to manufacture for next month at least. This is operation manager's paradise!
The reluctance of sales folks at showrooms is very apparent as they do not need to push sales.

After service is really a 'service' for RE. It is consumer's need, not RE's.

Sorry state of affairs. Hopefully will improve soon with the new plant and may be with new strategy!

Finally i got the bike back. The alternator was at fault and it was not charging the Battrey while the bike was running. It was replaced under warranty and i only got charged for the gasket that was changed.

I must say that writing to RE reallt helped in the process and after i had sent the mail, the response was really quick and this time the attitude of approach towards my issue was very professional. :P

Im happy to report that my bird is now in tip-top condition and is flying high.

@J.Ravi Sir, since you have experienced both TBTS and CL 500 hence need your help. Can you please answer my query.

I know that TB is more comfortable then Cl, but how big is the difference. Can we ride cl for 1000 km in a day (14 hrs ). Secondly which one is bettrr in handling and braking power. On papers acceleration is same but is there any difference?

I am in 2 minds for TB an DS. Have already booked DS and wanna pick one of thse 2 this month.

    Thanks,
    Naveen

Lot. The contoured seat, handlebar and the swing arms make a lot of difference between Classic 500 and Thunderbird 500 although the heart [engine] is the same producing the same power and torque. I rode 240 km in one day on my son's Classic 500 and definitely like my Thunderbird 500 especially for long mega rides.

Can we ride cl for 1000 km in a day (14 hrs )
Possible but not advisable; 1,000 km in 14 hours translates into 72 kmph speed. I do this speed on 4-lane roads for the first few hours before taking the first break. Afterwards, the average speed reduces due to breaks, road condition, physical and mental tiredness, etc. After all my mega trips of more than 1,000 km in 24 hours, the average speed worked out to less than 60 kmph, which translates into 840 km or less in 14 hours. For all my mega rides of 1,000 + km, I take 24 hours. In other words, I didn't/don't/won't aspire for Iron Butt Saddle Sore/Bum Burner rides!

which one is bettrr in handling and braking power.
I like my Thunderbird 500's handling better than my son's Classic 500 perhaps due to swing arms. Both have almost the same braking efficiency notwithstanding the rear disc brake in my Thunderbird 500.

Desert Storm definitely looks cute, better than Thunderbird 500. If you like it, buy it. But, Thunderbird 500 - costlier than DS - is tailor-made for stress-free long mega rides, IMO. Advance congratulations and best wishes irrespective of whether it is going to be DS or TB.

    Hi Ravi Sir,

I am quite new to RE and was reading a lot as I was planning to buy a TB 500. Booked it in Feb 2014 and going to get it (hopefully) on coming Monday. I really want to thank you as you always try to give right information to everyone interested.

I am looking to go for some long rides on my bird and you are really an inspiration to me.

    Thanks,

    Hi guys,

I got my bird on Friday and it seems all good so far. The only thing bothering me is the engine sound which RE Guys saying that this is normal initially and will go away after running period.

If you got two mins please download and check if this is normal. Here is the google drive link for the same.

Also I am unable to kick start first time in the day. I might be doing something wrong here.

    Kindly Advise.

    Many Thanks,
    Kshitij

Congratulations and wish you a lot of happy miles on your Bird, post listening to the sound you posted it looks like there is a tappet noise that is evident on the recording, however this should not be a concern as the new birds are normally tuned for higher RPM to set the engine, while this should be taken care of in your first service just ensure you mention the tappet sound on the job card during your first service.

kshitij.sharma you would also notice a higher rev while in idle, this is a part of the initial set up and it takes up to the 3rd service or 6000 / 8000 km for them to tune this for a lower rev.
