This complaint is with regards to the 4 Free Service of My TVS Jupiter done on 11 Feb 2017. and I have sent email to TVS and dealer both regarding scratches / cracks on tail lights.


I gave my vehicle for Service and mentioned in problems the tail light guard being loose, due to a two wheeler hitting from behind at signal two months ago. At that time there were no scratches on the Tail Light Glass. After getting back my vehicle I found too many scratches on tail light glass, especially on the right side indicator and tail light. Some scratches are also on speedometer glass which is negligible.


On discussion with the Mechanic Mr.Mechanic he mentioned that as it is plastic such scratches keep on occuring in vehicles and also showed me some other vehicles which have got scratches on Tail Light. I mentioned to him that I use only microfibre cloth for cleaning vehicle and such scratches were not before.


He mentioned that this is a issue with TVS Vehicles and they have provided feedback to TVS that in Vehicles scratches are forming after some time on the tail light glass / fibre parts and is a quality issue. This issue is to be taken seriously by TVS. But the tail light scratches on my TVS Jupiter which have appeared suddenly after service can also be due to overtightening of guards around the glass / fibre leading to stress and scratches. Because so many scratches at a time seems to be a reason of stress on fibre,. I am necessarily not complaining that mechanic did it deliberately, but it is very essential that while working on any part of vehicle they should use proper procedure and guidelines so that cracks / scratches are avoided. The cracks look very bad and also affect the strength of the material.


I want specifically TVS to inspect the Vehicle and provide their views on the cracks / scratches on tail light glass, and also update that whether this is a quality issue of TVS components.

I definitely know the mechanic is speaking nonsense. While tightening the guard, he overtighned the guard leading to stress on glass and scratches. But he is putting blame on TVS. I have sent email to both TVS & Sathya Motors.

As per the manual (24000KM service interval), i planned to perform the below tasks.

Engine and transmission oil change
Air Filter replacement
Spark Plug Replacement
Fork Oil replacement
SAI Filter replacement
CVT filter replacement
Clutch shoe replacement
CVT rollers and Drive belt replacement.

I specified all these when I left the bike at TVS authorized service center.
They were not sure what a SAI or CVT filter means. Fine. I asked them to do the other jobs.

I get a bill of 1600 that Engine oil, spark plug, Air Filter and break shoe for one wheel is replaced. The bill includes 700 for Labor.

I got a reply that other parts are good and not required to be changed right now.

Idling was very high. So i opened the carb cover to find it was completely covered with dust. Not opened in the last 15 months. Did some AFR adjustment and also reduced the idling. I have some jerking issues in the 40-60 KM mark after this. This jerking can be ignored as the bike will be ridden only in city limits with speeds less than 45KMPH.

Next check was battery. It also was unattended. Almost dry. I topped up with distilled water.

When paying 700 for labor, I would expect TVS to atleast clean the carb, adjust it and also check battery electrolyte level. Very bad service I should say and waiting for their feedback call.

The only complaint I have was engine grinding noise at 35-45 which I also have mentioned in first two free services. It is still persistent.

Next was finding what an SAI filter or CVT filter is. I googled and found SAI is secondary Air Injector. Pictures to follow.

Since past 3 days I've been facing issue in my Jupiter.
The handle doesn't seem stable and even on very smooth roads I experience some intermittent jerks/vibrations from the handle. The stability seems to be affected. 3 days ago I rode it with 3 people sitting for about 4km. Only after that the issue popped up.

Strangely, this issue doesn't show up all the time. Sometimes Jupiter runs as smooth as before, but once it starts showing it really annoys me.

What should I do?

Fellow Jupiter owners, I seem to have a strange problem in my 2 month old Jupiter.
The bike seems as if it pulls towards the right side.


I took it to service center and they said there was a 1mm offset in the fork and it is corrected. The mechanic also showed me by taking his hands off at speeds of 40-50 km/h and bike ran fine.


Now, the problem is I still feel the same that it pulls for right. The mechanic says I have to get it out of my mind.


I tried testing in different speeds/roads and when I took my hands off at 40-50 it goes fine.


But in lower speeds (<40) it does not go when hands are off it does not feel right.


I know and I understand that taking hands off is a recipe for disaster. But I could not find a way to take this out of my mind and get convinced.

The service center of course gave me another Jupiter which is their own. It felt horrible to say the least due to the abuse by mechanics.


Can some one tell me what is the right way to check if the handle bar/fork is fine.

Yes they don't check until it fails completely. [emoji19]

And about the belt they themselves said it was supposed to be changed at 12kms but somehow they managed to forget about it.
I probably think because i have a annual maintenance service which includes 8 oil changes, many discounts and almost every good spares to be free ( including the belt), thats why to save their money they did not check.

very few asc's ever open the left side case (which contains the drive components) during routine services. it's only when something goes wrong do they replace the parts.. preventive maintenance is non existent mostly.
Am not particularly sure about the drive belt replacement intervals on the jupiter, but these belt's usually last around 25k km at-least. So it's always a good practice to open the left side case and inspect all the components, clean and put them back (takes hardly 20 min), and never use grease on the belt or the rollers/variator. This inspection will let you know if the clutch shoes,drive belt, variator rollers, springs are in proper condition or will warrant a replacement.
I always get these done on my dio, from a local mechanic of-course since the past 9 yrs and it has never had a breakdown (expect for a failed RR unit around a year ago) in almost 70k km now! I simply replaced the belt at around 22k km as a preventive maintenance (still have this belt with me as a spare) and the replacement is still in good condition (last checked a month ago)!
You could browse the Activa/Dio ownership thread where I've in the past written about these services and what needs to be inspected.
And use oem spares as far as possible.

Yeah that might been the real issue for that, but they are very friendly and does the job well, idk how they missed out on it.

Ohh.Thats scary. Never faced such a situation, but will get the belt checked in next servicing for sure. I think, your servicing Center is quite inefficient in handling it.

Anyone with clutch belt issue on Jupiter ?



I had bought TVS Jupiter on February 2016. It was bought mostly for daily up downs in the City (Mumbai), but it ran pretty well in the city as well as on the highways as my dad did most of his touring and traveling on Jupiter as it was more comfortable for him. It actually completed 18000kms within 9 months & unfortunately when my dad was going to meet his cousins around 120kms away the clutch belt completely broke & was shredded into pieces right when he was somewhere in the middle of the way.
I had to go there and towed him back to a SVC which was just nearly 3kms away from my house.
The same day SVC guys fixed it up agreeing that it was their fault and they should've had change the belt before itself.
Then everything went well for the next 3000kms, until my dad took the Jupiter to Gujrat, Bharuch for some family functions on 30th Dec & unfortunately half way to reach the belt broke again & he had to push the scooter for 2-3kms to find a garage that too which was closed due to early morning, So that pissed him off because before both these unfornate incidents the Jupiter had gone for servicing just a day before. The roadside garage guy didn't have specific belt which tvs uses but he had another one which could just do the job well so installed that one.

As he came back after a week clocking another 1200kms, Jupiter was taken to the svc to replace the belt with the original, as they opened up to change they noticed the belt already lost 3 teeth within just 1200kms or so. They decided to open up everything and put it back together to see if anything else was at fault but came up with no faulty parts anywhere else .
So New belt again scooter felt happy and smooth compare to the not original belt. All well until next day some weird noises came from it as i accelerated with a pillion, i stopped and checked but couldn't see anything and no noise was coming again, until i rode it for 10kms and again under hard acceleration that noise came up. ( chu chu chu chu )
I wasn't sure if that it was the belt which was slipping or it had another issue. By night it totally refused to go past 20km/h because that chu chu noise was coming even when trying to go on a speedbreaker. I took it back home and left with my CBR instead.
Now the next day again to SVC opened up and saw the belt was off ( not completely ) they said it happened because while putting the things back together like the rollers and the belt a day back they had put grease on it so some how it was on the belt which made it to slip. :/
Even after they done fixing it up again at times it does make that sound when sitting with a pillion and under hard acceleration only.

Now Jupiter have surpassed 23000kms within 11months and only issue came up was this belt issue which makes me very dicey to take it anywhere above 30km .

Note: The Jupiter got serviced just before the belts broke both the time. Like within 100kms.

Sorry for the long story, i thought of sharing it to everyone here .

Quarter review-
-Scooter still smooth as new.
-Front tires have given up. Needs to be replaced.
-Milege Around 45kmpl( I am a hard rider).
-With so many rides on Bad/Non existent roads, front shock Oil Seal is still stock. (My CBR had given up within 15K kms on those roads).
-I am changing engine oil every 1.8-2K kms(Stock tvs oil).

Our Jupiter is nearing the 25K mark and that too within 15 months.

Also my BIL did a single day 300KMs with pillion without issues.

Brother, this is gyroscopic effect and has nothing to do with TVS Jupiter. Balance is directly proportional to weight of the scooter, weight of rider, vertical and angular velocity. In short you can put an elephant on scooty peppy and the elephant will find it extremely hard to balance itself even at cruise speed.

Stunt motorcyclist master this trade of fine balance of physics.

Follow up with the previous post. I have now replaced the tvs oil with MOTUL 5100 two weeks ago. Results are surprisingly good.
- The annoying tick-tick sound (Tappet noise) has almost vanished.
- The Economy indicator that went Orange post 53~55kmph now shifted to 60~62kmph.
- Noticed slight improvement in mileage (51kmpl vs previous 48kmpl).
- Motor is definitely revving more freely.
- 55 to 65kmph range where my Engine was kinda harsh, has mellowed down very much.
- Engine as a whole sounds sweeter and smoother.

As a note I also replaced the transmission oil too with the 5100.

I strongly recommend this oil after 3000km. According to MOTUL users this oil should be good for 5-6 months as per my average usage. Next time (probably in Apr-May) I'll replace 5100 with 7100 (fully synthetic). Expensive, but worth the deal.
