Hey guys, my RC390 meter has went kaput. Bike was parked in rain and water logged inside. And the new one costs 8k! I wanted to check up if Duke 200 ABS meter would work with RC390?? I am getting a second hand for 2.5k . Also if you guys can suggest any place where I can find one....

Yes, the aftermarket pumps are decent enough. OEM is expensive, primarily because you get the complete assembly and not the motor alone. Here, a CBR 250 that I know of that had its fuel pump motor bust and a replacement was sourced from Amazon and it's so far so good, touchwood.

What I'd suggest, a last ditch method of recovering the pump assembly. Remove the fuel pump, clean it thoroughly if you can, replace the in line fuel filter, remove/scrub the rust by applying WD40/Rustlick liberally and try running the pump motor connecting it to a battery, and douse the internals with rust cleaners while running the motor for a few seconds. If you've never cleaned your throttle body, and fuel injector, it's high time you consider this mandatory, since you'll be removing the tank it's wiser and easier to remove the throttle body and the injector for their service.

    Good luck.

    Cheers!

Engine oil, oil filter, replacement mandatory. Get your spark plug, air filter removed and cleaned. Make sure your chain is cleaned and lubed, slack adjusted, tire pressure set right. Make sure your battery is charged and if needed get your battery thoroughly charged. Engine flush isn't mandatory, but helps remove oil deposits from an engine that's been sitting for a while. If the bike is periodically fired up and ridden, then these procedures should suffice. If your bike has been sitting for a long time without firing up, engine flush and fresh fuel along with new fuel filter is necessary.

    Good luck.

    Cheers!

The labor cost for general service includes labor for changing engine oil, they might charge you extra for coolant change(say 100 bucks max) but most dont if its done along with general service.
3k for front fork oil+seals replacement seems to be on the higher side.
as i said earlier, svc usually gives a higher quote and many times for general repairs such as these the end cost will be lower. but always better to get a clear break up of costs rather than vague info like '5000 for general service'.
as you said the bike was parked away from the elements, dont worry about the tires, they will be fine.
Engine oil seal was leaking due to bent shaft (the one that changes the gears ig). Sorry don't know what it is called. So they replaced it .And fixed that engine oil seal.
Engine oil used to leak out of that if the bike wasnt standing upright at 90 degrees. I shipped the bike last year, it must have happened during that, Didn't use after that.
Am in my hometown a Tier-3 city, no other options so I am kinda stuck accepting the vague quote.

So in the end, they will charge 8k for general service, engine oil seal repair, replaced gear changing shaft, and repairing the front shockers (both) that were leaking,

I will ask for breakup tomorrow when I pay and recieve the bike. Will update then.

    Thanks.

    Edit: Update.
Recieved the bike, paid 7150. Tyres seem alright.

They quoted 3000 for all the front shocker repair. 1800 for engine oil and 350 for coolant,
When summarizing they said 5000 for general service and engine oil seal repair and 3000 for shocker repair.
Buying the battery from outside dealer.

Does your estimate include the leaky engine oil seal repair?

Also, the tyres were brand new, replaced in Feb 2020 with only 900 kms on them, and I have been reading this thread for awhile how rubber degrades. Would the tyres need to be replaced in near future?
The bike was parked under cover, away from sunlight and other elements. What signs should I look for in tyres? Thanks.
what do you mean by leaky engine oil seal repair. pl be specific or share a picture of the area from where the oil is leaking ( i assumed the oil seal leak was from the fork oil seal)
engine oil 1.5L motul 7100 20w50, mrp is 1205rs. buy it yourself from amazon.
motul ingel expert (the coolant which svc uses) is again Rs.215 mrp.

Hey pdsidhu just see inspect whether there are small cracks on Tyre, if there is not any then rubber is in good condition.

    here are approx prices:
labor cost for a general service = 1000rs
    cost of air/fuel/oil filter together = 500rs
cost of engine oil = 1200rs
    coolant = 200rs
cost of fork oil, fork oil seals for both forks + labor = 2300rs
new battery (amaron), in exchange of old battery = 1900rs [better to buy it directly from a battery dealer rather than from the service center, they over charge you for the battery]

so all these will add up to approx 7500~8000 (the prices i've mentioned are from 2019, so could be a little higher now)
    without the battery around 5500rs.

service centers have the habit of giving a repair quotation on the higher side.. ask them for a detailed break up of parts and labor rather than a blunt figure of 8k.

Kind of a noob here. I own a RC 390 2017, 11k on odo, which I haven't being able to drive since february 2021 owing to lockdown and 2nd wave. It hasn't been started since feb either. So I just returned from service center. Just wanted to do a price check and if there are additional things I need to do.

As I understand it, the battery is gone. There was an oil seal leak already in Feb, and now front shockers are also leaking.

So for general service, replacement of coolant, repairing oil seal and repairing shockers, I have been quoted around 8k. Thoughts? I feel this quote is kinda fair, battery is not included,

Is there anything else I should asked to be checked/replaced or I need to pay attention to?

    Thanks a lot.

I am finding the new rearsets far more comfortable and they are not slippery at all. Feels more like a track bike but it suits my riding style.

Hi VJ.. thanks for your reply. How are you?
So engine oil is new but changed after a 13 months due to lockdown ..first time it happened so may be it will take few km to get settle in but i doubt it will increase smoothness much.
Regarding petrol ..i am planning to drain some petrol tomorrow and fill some fresh petrol may be that can help .
Now regarding slipper clutch i have installed some part from slipper clutch assembly and that have smoothen my clutch to a major extent, i have adjustable levers as well..can pull lever by 1 finger . .so it can wait till next clutch change ( my clutch plates are only 6k old and i need to change whole which will cost 9k now and at clutch plates change it will be just 3-4k extra so that's why i need some strong steer to make that decision) ,gear change is fine for me but noticible engine roughness like what is in 1,2,3 gear is now in 4,5,6 as well. does it will reduce that ..what do you think please.engine braking it will help definately( but thats not bothering me ) but overall engine smoothness in higher gears that i am craving even 40-50% will be more than enough for me..the bike is just serviced so can do this change at next service.

Oh yes chain i will check..thankyou
Edit - after some riding, chain check and petrol change ( petrol was still fine looking at the colour) ..bike is much smoother now once it crosses 5k and torque is now adequate at low engine speed i can ride my bike easily below 25 in 3rd gear ( 1st main reason to change as this is the speed i cross brakers )so gear changes are lot less than earlier in my area full of speed brakers i can slot 5th at 50 -60 and its pretty comfortable from there same for 6th @60 -70 and now 110-120 is coming easily ......there was a lethargic torque delivery when i slot 6th at 75kmph earlier and it use to become smooth after 85-90 and if i want to ride hard than i have to slot 5th gear again for better acceleration but now i can slot 6th gear easily at 75 and i dont need to change gear anytime after......
slipper clutch is requirement for me although i was looking for smooth engine but i felt it will be going to help me for engine braking in lower 2-3 gear and only in my area where i take sharp corners as i stay in hilly area but it can wait till next service ..so this is some feedback for undergearing.. please see youtube for detailed review from bulu biker or from some riders .please let me know for any clarification or any observation required from me..

I observed that I can now slot 6th gear at 41-42 kmph and from 45 its fine..the lagginess all are gone..its just feel so so good ..no stall no constant gear change in city .. although it will reduce top speed by 13-14 km but as my ride is mostly in city so this tradeoff is absolutely fine for me .anyway it still have marginally more top speed than apache 310

Anyways it also brought some noticible negative..now engine in 4,5 and 6 gear doesnot feel that smooth like earlier ..it now got low gear roughness ( noticable but not that much )so just want to understand if installing slipper clutch will help in roughness of engine i felt due to short gearing..although i am planning to change that on my next clutch plates change but don't want to spend money now unless i get very noticable change in smoothness ( clutch feel is fine for me as i installed some slipper clutch part which reduced the clutch hardness).thanks
just want to add i just remembered that my fuel is old as well..not ridden much in past 4-5 month after tank full and it still have 2-3 litre of old petrol left..will see smoothness after petrol change but please still share your view for slipper clutch..
